<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>KingExLeafs</b></div><div>Ottawa needs to make the playoffs. Marner will help with that next year, the two late 1sts won't.</div></div>
Go make a Sens agm with this same trade and tell me how they fit Marner under the cap with Bath going the other way.
Also we’ve seen very clearly that Marner can help a team get to the playoffs but not through them. The goal is the Cup, not the playoffs.

So tired of the shananplan
Cowan looks like a player but that offer gets beaten.
Also fun fact but Ottawa traded Toronto the picks they used on Hirvonen and Niemela so I doubt they’d be overly interested.

Not really. Chabot to Rielly is lateral and the only way Ottawa could afford a Marner type contract is by keeping guys on great value deals like Batherson to make the cap gymnastics work.
In no way does this push Ottawa over the top and teams finishing almost bottom 5 in the league shouldn’t be trading multiple 1sts.

Sandy plays defence. His game is a lot more than points. Enjoy the summer, we’ll see how many “core” players make it through to the fall.

Cap hit doesn’t work. 12.5m would require the entire team be blown up and built around Marner. It’s unrealistic to the point that the value is irrelevant. Not about equal value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_92</b></div><div>Love him or hate him, Marner is by FAR worth more than Batherson.</div></div>
The value Batherson brings at less than 6m…. Does Marner provide double the value for double the cap hit? I would argue no.
Batherson is Ottawa’s best value contract. Trading him out to pay Marner his new deal wouldn’t be shrewd. If anything Bath is the exact kind of contract you keep in order to make Marner at 12m work with the cap.

Chabot or Chych getting moved because LD is overcrowded.
Trading for another LD would make no sense. Sanderson, Chabot/Chychrun and Brannstrom already on the left. If anything they need to add to the right side.

A 3rd should be seen by Ottawa brass as fair value. Would hope they pull the trigger on this type of deal without thinking twice if it popped up.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>This is more than the Sabres got for Eichel or the Flames got for Matthew Tkachuk.
If he wanted to make a comparable offer, it would be something like:
Ottawa 1st+Zub+Grieg+3rd for Hischier</div></div>
I've already wrote love letters about how Eichel forcing his way out of Buffalo while seeking a surgery that had basically never been done before is a terrible comparison so I'm not sure why youre still using it as a comparable for a Brady trade. Also mentioned that Matthew actively forced his way out of Florida as well whereas Brady is more than happy to stay. We could pretend the scenario behind this trade is he forced his way out but realistically a trade like this would be NJ coming to Staios to see if they could entice him to trade his captain.
Also if Hubie didnt fall off the face off the planet in Calgary I dont think you'd be saying that this was a better return than what went to Calgary for Matthew. Weegs looks amazing and signed long term for 6m. The 10-15 pick difference in the 1sts and the mid round picks changing hands dont make up the difference between Weegs to Marino and Huberdeau to Holtz pre-trade.

Compared to Brady? Absolutely 10th doesnt hurt you and in a vacuum Ottawa giving up a 7th for Brady wouldnt hurt at all either.
Whatever point youre trying to make is being lost in translation...

Need to be giving up assets that hurt to get Brady and I dont think Devils fans would really care that much about any of what's going out the door in that offer.

B2024 BOS NJD OTT
Regardless of Norris and his health, the return isnt enough to consider for Ottawa. If you were eating Korpi's contract instead of one year of Forsberg at a very reasonable cap hit then maybe the conversation begins there or maybe if Poitras was swapped out for another piece closer to the ilk of Pinto.
But as is its definitely a pass without a second thought.

Ottawa get Lilj, Hirvonen, Jarnkrok and the privilege of moving up about 10-15 spots from early 2nd to late 1st for Chychrun. No way Ottawa gives you that high 2nd back for that return.
Pass.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JLance</b></div><div>Thanks for the response and insight. I see Joker not as a garbage dump, but as an extra player the Sabres shouldn't be paying his worth. He's now a luxury item that can be played on lines 2 and 3 (1 in a tight pinch) but the value in him now is the trade return. There's plenty of teams looking for team controllable RHD's so there's probably many options here.</div></div>
Serviceable wasnt meant to be a slight!! He'd easily be the second best RD on the team and carries value 100%, most definitely not a cap dump and Ottawa should be interested

I'm not sold on Carolina making the finals but even if they did the Car 1st would **12 spots higher than the Philly 2nd, either way the value on the deal would still need to be adjusted.
