Avs decline. Only Habs player I can really see them having any interest in (that they can afford) at present would be Kovacevic. Pretty sure they'd give more than a 5th for him.

Age does play a factor but not so much with some goalies (lots of variables like injury history, late bloomers and so on) and I don't see it as a huge issue with Brossoit. Kahkonen I still think would be the best shot myself, and yes by Father Finn I meant Raanta. Talbot would be another possibility as an older guy.

Probably take a punt on Kahkonen myself out of those. Finnish starter (don't see Lankinen as one so that rules him out for me), Finnish back up, Finnish goalie coach.
Ned as a second choice. As <a href="/users/HawksGuy81" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@HawksGuy81</a> says....Samsonov I'd rule out as too inconsistent.
Other options - Brossoit from Winnipeg, Father Finn as a gamble from Carolina.

Nobody is pretending here except you. Neither of us have professed to knowing everyone and everything. Pretending that that offer gets you close to getting Rantanen is just silly.

If Georgiev blows it
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GiggywithGibby</b></div><div>I watched last night's replays as well, 6/7 goals were glove side high. Winnipeg's scouting report on him clearly drilled down on that weakness. Not saying all of them were his fault, but the poor guy looks completely cooked out there.
For as bad as Gibsons stats have been the last few years, I believe he would have fared a lot better in that game, he's much more active/aggressive with his stick to prevent cross crease passes (Georgiev got burner 2 or 3 times by this) and he usually gets the first save buying his defense time to bail him out (Anaheims just hasn't) which isn't what Georgiev was able to do last night. Yeah, the defense was sloppy, but he needs to be making that first save and he just isn't.
With regards to the trade, you guys don't have much in the way of assets to work with, and a 2nd round pick is coming back. If Ritchie is off limits then you're talking about 1sts, and I don't think any team who has a goalie is going to be interested in waiting three seasons for that pick to come through. Behrens and Gulyayev are of no interest to us, and other prospects like Olausson etc just don't look like they're going to do anything at the NHL level.
Plus, you guys aren't the only ones in the market, NJ, Buffalo, maybe Ottawa, LA are all looking for goalies this off-season.</div></div>
I think the second rounder being late and making it basically a full round step down is probably too much. If it were the Anaheim 2nd rounder then I'd probably consider it, with it being much of a muchness this year after Celebrini and maybe a handful of others) from probably 15 through to about pick 40. They'd maybe still have a shot at drafting Sennecke (my personal choice - seems to be ranked anywhere from about 19th to not in the top 40 so obviously pretty divisive) to keep building on his chemistry with Ritchie (and yes he'd definitely be off limits in most scenarios including this one) or at least a higher chance guy who might come through in the future. Looking at Sundestrom having arb rights is also possibly an issue. Not sure he'll be as low as 1.5 when currently on 1.8 even though he's regressed somewhat statistically. Even after all that I'm still not sure Gibson is the answer.
On the subject of the Mitts deal I think he may get lower term, lower cap hit and bank on himself adapting to the Avs game and earning a better deal later. Might also allow them to keep Trenin and/or Drouin somehow.

I don't think there's any question the Avs are going to have to look to fix the goalie issue, but maybe they bank on him fixing whatever is wrong with him in the off season, who knows at this point. It isn't that Georgie has been really bad, just average, as has been the defensive play in front of him and average doesn't win cups, and I've been defending him for much of the season (more than his actual D have!) He just never looks like he's going to steal one for you which is what you need from any goalie at some point during the season. When you put 6 past Hellebuyck, you have to expect the goalie to pull off one or two of the big stops that give you the win, not just be average. Can't see CH having another game like that (and it's not like he actually played badly either) in the series and it could be a 4-0 whitewash.
As for the trade, not sure about the Avs giving up that first round pick tbh. The parts may make sense in some respects but I think the Avs decline.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>Suggesting this offer doesn't have enough quality is wrong. McMichael is a young second line center coming off his ELC, Cristall is a recent 2nd round pick that just tore up the WHL. On top of that, you're getting TWO first round picks that are premium assets in this league, especially considering the caps just squeaked into the playoffs so that 2025 first could easily be a lottery pick and the 2024 is 17th overall I believe. Kuemper is almost a cap dump at this point, but the combination of miscellaneous draft picks easily cover that cost. Just because you don't know about the pieces coming back doesn't mean they aren't quality. Just because there's a high quantity of pieces doesn't mean there's not quality in that package. If you're gonna respond to a post, at least think about it first.</div></div>
Good attempt at selling but the Avs ain't buying. Not even close to the reality of what it would take to get Rantanen.

How many other places fit the criteria of: A) having the cap space B) willing to give you your money back on colton C) Colton would waive to.
Again, if getting a free year of Colton and then getting your money back is being sold cheap in your eyes, I expect you to be very disappointed with the returns if you do have to shed salary.
Especially in the offseason when there are boatloads of UFAs that can be acquired for free.</div></div>
In answer to the ABC I know not. Not info any of us are privy to on B & C, and the premise Avs fans have worked on (on here at any rate) is that Colton would be moved before the NTC kicks in were it to happen.
A year at 4 mil per isn't free and getting less than value IS being sold cheap. Maybe I will be disappointed in any returns but I have faith in Burnably Joe & GMCM when it comes to such things. If anyone can get good value then they can.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgibb10</b></div><div>RFA rights to get him on the exact contract they got him on.
37th overall for 4 years of Colton at 4 mill AAV
Now it is 3 years of Colton at 4 mill AAV.
Also, you are negotiating against a clock, and a cap crunch. The second July 1st hits Colton gets a full NTC, significantly tanking his value.
On a hometown boy who's publically talked about how he'd love to play for NJD, that gives us an edge in negotiations.
he has an identical points/60 to his time is tampa , but his goal production is down significantly.
Again, if a team is willing to pay more than what you paid for him, go ahead and NJD would probably match any bidding war, but you'd question why that team wouldn't have outbid you last year.
If you choose to clear cap in a different way, call us about that too. Whether it's Girard or Georgiev or whoever, I'm sure NJD would be interested</div></div>
RFA rights weren't to necessarily get him on the contract he's on. It was on its way to arbitration. 3 years signed is worth more than RFA rights any day of the week and twice on a Sunday. The clock and cap crunch, point taken, but it's not as if the Avs HAVE to move Colton. There are other options. As for the hometwon thing, sure it makes good press and all that but only gives NJ leverage with a player not a team they're negotiatiing with. His points per 60 is what I was referring to and he's playing a different game now as a C. Colton won't be sold cheap that much I can tell you.

Presumably 37th overall was the best offer back then for Colton. With a cap crunch getting back what you paid for Colton should be the expectation</div></div>
Colton has most certainly raised his value (playing C which he hadn't played all that much in the NHL until this year and doing it well whilst maintaining his points pace) and he's also signed. You aren't trading for his RFA rights. You'd need to ante up for him, regardless of the cap crunch. He'd be in demand if he were made available. Whilst Avs fans like myself are saying he's moveable and might be the piece that has to be sacrificed it WILL be a sacrifice. It isn't that any of us dislike him or don't believe he's delivered.
