<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tjbracken</b></div><div>Except they dont carry 3 at all times, they carry 1 or 2 quite often and in your scenario kane gets placed on a list and his salary opens up, same as IR</div></div>
Respectfully disagree, look at CapFriendly Daily Cap tracker. Kane collected his salary. There is no "special" list to not count his salary to cap hit like there is for IR or Suspension. Just like when Nyquist missed a couple games for childs birth. Still got paid and it counted towards cap.

Above is a link to a random NHL game. Can you show me ONE example of a game where there is only 1 or 2 healthy scratches.
Under NHL game center scroll to bottom you'll see roster report. I've yet to find a team with less than 3 healthy scratches
As I've said your team make-up would\can only exist in fantasy pertaining to roster number and salary. Teams don't just show up to the arena with 20 guys, they carry 23+IR. Only 20 will suit up for game that night

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tjbracken</b></div><div>You literally just proved my point. The players can be at the game and not be on the 23 man roster which is why you have seen them when sometimes the team is only carrying 20. They typically only carry 20 at home unless there is a guy who can't be sent down due to waivers. Usually when they are home, they send down any extras so they can get some playing time with the Cuda. On the road you typically carry extra for emergency. When a guy is placed on IR his cap comes off the books thus opening the cap space for a replacement to be formally added. It's not that complicated.</div></div>
I've seen your point from the start, but do you see my point? Your roster won't work half the season. Your 20 players eat up all the salary cap. You couldn't carry ANY EMERGENCY players at home or away. you even state they'll carry emergency players when on the road. If they're carrying emergency players on the road, their salary counts towards the cap. Under the scenario i have given you where two players become incapacitated for whatever reason, you have no back up players ON OFFICIAL 23 MAN ROSTER to replace them. DeBoer can't run down the hall and tell a player put your gear back on you're playing. That player HAS TO BE ON OFFICIAL ROSTER THUS THAT EMERGENCY PLAYERS SALARY will COUNT towards CAP whether he plays or is scratched. Only way your scenario works is if players are injured, how many times have you've seen a bottom 6 forward sit one night then play the next. It can't happen the way your team is composed whether it's a home or away game. Never seen a team purposely start a game with 5 Dman. They've always pulled that emergency(extra) player from the 23 man roster. And those EXTRA(EMERGENCY) PLAYER'S SALARY count to CAP.
And I understand your scenario of sending guys back to AHL at home but that's 41 games and players can only be sent down so many times before waivers become an issue
Another example- you have your 20 man roster under the cap by 160K.
Kane is granted permission by Sharks to leave team to care for personal business. His replacements salary (player #21) joins the team. His salary is 600K. Player 21 salary can't replace Kanes since he is not injured. It has to be included now 21 players over cap NHL won't allow. Hence, why teams carry 3 emergency (healthy scratch) players whether at home or away you can't predict what life will throw your way and neither can a NHL GM.

In order to be deemed a "scratch" for the game, they have to be on the roster.
"Both the 23-player active roster and 20-player game roster can change day-to-day and game-to-game. All changes to the team’s 23-player active roster must be cleared through the NHL’s Central Registry before the move is considered finalized (and before the player is eligible to play in a game). In most cases the clearance from Central Registry is simple and completed in a nominal time span. Changes to the 20 players on the game roster are even easier – the list is submitted to the NHL official (either referee or official scorer) by the team (usually the head coach) moments before the start of the game. Prior to submitting the list, the team can choose from any members of its 23-man active roster.
As for the 20-player game roster, according to Rule 5.2, “Only players and goalkeepers on the list submitted to the Official Scorer before the game may participate in the game.” The rule further states that any goals scored while ineligible players are on the ice are subject to be disallowed – at the time of the goal – and the ineligible player(s) removed from the game with the offending team not allowed to replace the ineligible player’s roster spot. However, the rule continues, “No additional penalties are to be assessed but a report of the incident must be submitted to the Commissioner.”
And what I'm trying to explain to you is if your team existed IRL is when you go to use those 3 empty spots with AHL player A, B, C, they have to be on the 23 player ACTIVE roster list. Those players (ABC) will count towards the salary cap even if "healthy scratched" for that game.
Hypothetical situation, during pregame warm up, All the Barracuda players are out there skating with the Sharks, one of them hits a slapshot and hits Burns in the eye. Burns can't play since his eye is swollen shut. Erickson pulls his groin exiting the ice and can't play. Under your team build-up you have no backups as there is no one on the 23 man ACTIVE roster. Head coach can't use any of his Barracuda players because his GM(you) only gave him 20 ACTIVE NHL players. He only has 4 D men to play the game. Hence why most teams carry 3 extra(healthy scratch) players on the active roster (2-F & 1-D) and those contracts count towards the cap.
Another example, Pavelski was deemed a GTD. Went out and skated, exited the ice but was scratched. His replacement AHL (Grambrell) had to be on the 23 active player list before DeBoer inputted him on the 20 man game day roster. Grambrell now makes 21 on roster. All 21 players contracts can't total more than the cap and under your team scenario, you couldn't make it work.

uhh ok, you must not go to too many Shark homes games. I average 15-20 Shark games a year and have yet to see them not have healthy scratches and their AHL team is in house. And have watched when Sharks, specifically, go on a East Coast road trip this past season where Haley plays first, second, fourth game. Radil played third game. Those 21-23 players sitting in the rafters their salary counts to cap. Your "team" above is 160K under cap, Heed gets in doghouse with DeBoer. Pull up an AHLer, that salary puts your team over cap (21 players now)

How to fix the Cap Problems
My bad. thought the 20-21 expansion draft was going INTO that season not after the season. still don't see DW giving a 35+ player a multiple year contract. DW only gave Thornton 1 year deals after 35, don't see pavs getting a multi-year past 35

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tkecanuck341</b></div><div>The only way Pavelski will agree to $6M is if the term is 6 years. My guess is $7.5 for 3 years or $7M for 4.</div></div>
I see Pavs taking a gentleman's agreement with DW. Pavs taking a 1 year deal, then after expansion draft DW giving him 2-3 years. With the 1 year deal, pavs a ufa and can't be protected yet Seattle can't take him since he's not under contract

Uh, NHL roster size is 23 players. Thus every game you will have 3 healthy scratches and their contracts will count towards cap not just those suited up to play

20 players at 83 mil. Where's the 3 healthy scratches that count towards cap?
