<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caufield</b></div><div>I highly doubt that. Bahl is a bottom pair guy, Guhle is easily a top 3 D, same for Hughes. Sure, Hughes is the better offensive player, but Guhle has the upper hand defensively. Hughes is an offensive D, while Guhle is more of a 2-way D, so they aren’t really the same type of guy. Hughes receives the point for being a year younger, but comparing this season, they aren’t that far off realistically</div></div>
The difference in upside is absolutely massive.

Nemec is a MUCH better asset than Hellebuyck, especially considering Helle has consistently struggled in the playoffs.
You cannot just "replace him" as you ignorantly say. Nemec is THE best defensive prospect

With ruff as the coach I fully expect Thompson/ Tuch/ Cozens to return to their previous form maybe even skinner. You also have Quinn who in a full season could score 30.
If Kulich/ Rosen come up that’s another shooter
One thing Buffalo does lack though is a RH shutdown dman. Samuelsson is your only other defensive minded dman on the team.</div></div>
I know they need a shutdown RHD, but they can’t justify trading Peterka especially after trading Mittelstadt.

Busy Busy Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Definitely a fair critique. If Markstrom is still a go, then there is your goaltending crisis solved at 3m. Salary bind is a bit of a stretch, you have no pending UFAs of note and all of your RFAs expire when the cap ceiling will have raised considerably. Marner's extension would only be ~3m more than what he'd be costing you in 2024.
Again, it's not one year of Mitch Marner, it'd be 9 in this case. Can't make anything official because of the July 1st deadline, but there are always handshake agreements. This entire trade hinges on Marner sticking around. NJD wouldn't be the only team with interest, you're not getting a player like Marner for "pennies on the dollar", regardless of UFA status or NMCs.</div></div>
He is a great player.. nobody is saying he isn't. He just doesn't fit NJ's team at 11+ million, if he wanted to take a discount and take 9 then yeah I'm sure NJ would be interested in him but the devils already have Hughes, Bratt, Meier, Hischier as top of the league players up front and all make a lot of money already. The future just doesn't work if they bury that much into another forward. 9 might work with serious wiggling but they've also got big raises for Luke Hughes and Nemec coming soon. A top heavy forward core doesn't work, you need depth and the team right now is built for that with the great contracts on the books. They're just missing a goaltender and a 2nd/3rd line guy who can forecheck and hit along with maybe 65 points.. another year of growth for some of the younger guys won't hurt either

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Casey is yet to sign in NJ despite his season being over and the Devils have a deep RHD pool. Wonder if it's worth it to sell high on him.</div></div>
Casey is returning to Michigan for another year. This is not a concern for NJD. Devils development staff (Eric Weinrich) meets with him weekly in person. He plays in Big Ten, which is closest to pro-style game of all the conferences. Michigan does well at developing prospects (Quinn Hughes, Luke Highes, Zach Werenski, Kyle Connor, Pacioretty, Hyman, Larkin, etc). And the facilities blow Utica's out of the water. Plus, they will have good chance of competing with McGroarty, TJ Hughes returning....William Whitelaw, Tim Lovell transferring in and Freshmen Matvei Gridin, Michael Hage, Christian Humphreys. Its will be good for his development.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Marner replaces Mercer, that's a huge upgrade for NJ and a swap you make 10 times out of 10.</div></div>
4-8 years of Mercer vs 1 year of Marner is an easy choice for NJD.
We are not building a one-and-done team...our window is not closing, it is just opening.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NorthernLeafsFan05</b></div><div>Marner would be the best player on your team. He is a top playmaker in the league, a consistent 30 goal scorer, a Selke finalist, and is a winner regardless of how Toronto media paints him. He is far from the issue in TO. The fact people like you view him as this sort of asset to avoid is crazy.</div></div>
He would not be. Jack Hughes would still be the best player on our team. Nico Hischier is not bad either. But its not a question of whether he is good or not. Marner has one year at $10.9m and a history of making contract negotiations very difficult.

any GM that trades a top 25 pick or B prospect or higher for markstrom should be banned from the NHL. like you said hes 34, might have 2-3 year left at being anything close too good, his value comes as a rental in his final contract year.

Isn’t the whole point to find players when their prices are their lowest? Holtz’s 5v5 pt/60 rates were the same as Cole Caufield. There is a lot to like.</div></div>
Montreal fans would be singing Kent Hughes praises endlessly the second a trade went through for Holtz, just like they have done with the Romanov Dach trade.

Holtz to Habs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>I personally don’t like Xhekaj on ice play. Struble & Harris are better and both can play PK. But what Xhekaj brings (hard hits, intimidating the other teams, our players playing better because they feels safer with Xhekaj in the line up, etc.) is something positive despite all the negative aspects he brings. He is still young and hopefully he will take less penalties going forward. For Hutson, it remains to be seen if he will play PK. He has a high IQ and active stick.</div></div>
I like what he brings in terms of Physicality but in my view at least, you can't hide a dman. Montreal has tried to hide Xhekaj (he plays the easiest competition in the league), and it just makes the life of the other dman absolute hell.
If he was a forward that I could hide for 9 minutes a game and simply give more ice time to my top guys that would be okay. But a dman, especially one who can't stay out of the box and can't provide on either special teams unit is a problem.

Holtz is one draft year younger than dach. Dach had 38 points in 58 games at the same point in his career.
If time doesnt matter wele give you colin white for holtz. He had 40+ points once because apararently context doesnt matter lol</div></div>
Kirby Dach at age 21 even strength stats:
8 goals, 20 pounts, 823 minutes playing mostly alongside Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki
Alex Holtz age 21 even strength stats:
15 goals 26 points 841 minutes playing alongside Tomas Nosek lmao.
But hey, Kirby Dach got 4 minutes a night on PP1 that he helped lead to being, checks notes, 29th in the league. Real valuable.

Sanderson-Marino would not be anywhere close to Sanderson-Zub this year .
Wrong Nico is overrated. He’s not a top 10 centre .
Tkachuk isn’t worth less.
I like Greig more than Holtz.
There’s a reason Holtz hasn’t been given free reign. He’s not a valuable player</div></div>
Zub played 39.8% of his minutes against elite competition
Marino played 40%.
Marino also had a higher % of his minutes against elite competition last year, and the year before.
per PuckIQ
Zub has had 1 year of good results playing 830 minutes alongside Jake Sanderson.
Marino's most common Partner this year was Kevin Bahl.
If you want to claim Kevin Bahl and Jake Sanderson are similar quality hockey players you can go ahead and do that tho.
Nico Hischier is a better hockey player than Tkachuk at a more valuable position.
Ridley Grieg with less points and goals than Holtz in more ice time. Lower Draft pedigree and upside too.
