again: it’s a matter of the player’s value <strong>to the team</strong> as opposed to on the market. the pair he’s played on with pelech has been really solid this season (even if pelech is carrying it) and he’s a solid second pair guy when pulock is healthy (because again, the reason mayfield is playing on the top pair rn is not because pulock is bad but because pulock was out for almost three months with a broken foot).

it’s not worth it for this team to give him up without getting a great package in return, since he has another year and can come back, because we don’t have someone in the pipeline pushing to make an impact at the NHL level in this position. that very well might not be worth it to other teams, but then he stays on the isles and they’d be more than happy to keep him around. this is not a “he’s a pending UFA and they have to deal him to get anything for him” situation. they’ll move him if the package they are offered is more valuable to the team than he is (in my eyes either a first or a second and a decent prospect). otherwise he doesn’t go. there’s just no reason for them to deal him for a third rounder, just hold onto the player if that’s what other teams think of him.

He plays and is producing like Coleman did when Tampa traded for him (i.e. on pace for 50 points) and has a $1.5m caphit for 3 years. Would be tremendously valuable on a contender battling the cap.

Sujet: 2022 Offseason outlook
Nice put together, but I definitely think 2 of 3 Nichushkin, Burakovsky, or Kadri is back next season even if that means Compher or Jost is moved. COL has reached the point the 4th line needs to be guys making as little as possible, maybe that’s what finally forces them to roll a 4th line of Bowers, Maltsev and Kaut. It’s only a couple 100k but I think Sakic plays hardball with 4th line guys, Bowers is getting league minimum, NAK is getting under a $1M, just look at what Sakic did with Jost a couple of years ago. If Byram is healthy he’s in the top 4 and either Barron or Helleson slot into that 6th spot opposite EJ and the other gets pushed to the AHL.

I’ll put my 2 cents in on the Dvorak/Toffoli commentary. Dvorak is not good. He wasn’t particularly good in AZ and I thought MTL massively overpaid for a middle of the road 3C who was masquerading as a 2C in AZ, he’s somebody better off avoided. Toffoli is all about price. If the kooks that are CF MTL fans set the value for him forget it, but he would find a way to produce.

All in all solid job.
