LOC goes home
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFS_90</b></div><div>It’s not that bury-able… maybe they throw him on waivers, and hope he gets picked up… Moving him could free up at least $200K. It also allows them to carry only one extra players and accrue cap space by using waiver ineligible players to fill in for injuries.
It’s hard to justify a nearly $1M virtually unplayable player with the cap situation the Avs have.</div></div>
What is a Buried Contract?
Teams do not receive full cap relief when a player on a one-way NHL contract is reassigned to the American Hockey League, or is loaned to a team in another professional league.
The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:
2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
2022-23: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000
2023-24: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
2024-25: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
2025-26: $775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000
Provided a player makes less than 1.15 million, you can send them to the AHL by placing them on waivers and have their full contract off the NHL teams cap. MacDermis makes less than 1.15 million, so if he is assigned to the Eagles, his full cap hit comes off the Avs roster.

What It Might Look Like
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFS_90</b></div><div>What CMac said was that Drouin will "See time with Nate"... He did not say that he would immediately be thrust into a top 6 role.</div></div>
I'm not sure which part of "Drouin is going to get a look next to Nate in the preseason and training camp, and the FO being comfortable in his ability to play with RyJo" means he's not the preferred option to fill out the Top 6 at least to start the season. Not saying whether it will work out or not, but based on what CMac has said in recent interviews and the players they signed, Drouin should get the first crack at a top 6 role.

On doit le faire pour gagner
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFS_90</b></div><div>I honestly think Avs fans need to temper our expectations for Drouin... To me, he's a 3rd liner who fits on the top PP with Nate, Mikko, Val, Makar... He has shown that the pressure of top minutes hurts his performance mentally. For the Avs to get the most out of him, they need to put him in situations where he can succeed.</div></div>
Honestly at his money, I'm thinking we just try him out on the fourth line with some speed and still slot him in with Mac on the PP. Ben Meyers and Cogliano would make up for his defensive liabilities and he could generate some good chances down there.

Wouldn't want ROR for that term. COL should really explore adding Barbashev and Jesper Fast.

Depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RFS_90</b></div><div>I might. I'm really on the fence between those two. Toews is a much better defender, but Girard has a much better contract.</div></div>
Appreciate the response.
Yeah that's why I was curious. The cap situation makes it a bit interesting. Do you take the not as good guy who's signed longer to a more team friendly deal - or do you keep the better guy knowing you might not be able to afford his raise next offseason? Tough decisions. And until they start signing people in the offseason, specifically Bowen, it's hard to know what kind of space they're working with.
As for the trade itself - if it's for Toews I'm definitely taking it. Obviously. As for Girard, that's a tough one. POJ showed good promise this past season and that 5mil might be better used elsewhere. But if the Pens free up that space by buying out Granlund or something like that I could see them accepting

Next Season
Most of the prices and terms feel right to me. I like the Sanford addition. I would not assume Barron gets traded. If Sakic makes a big move, I'd think it's Helleson, possibly Behrens, but I think he'd have to get a lot to let go of Barron; think "a difference-maker that's more than a rental" type of trade.

Kulak is an overpay. Habs would probably be happy with a 4th. But if you want to give a 2nd they will take that

While I can see Vesalainen being moved as he's just not getting much of an opportunity with the Jets, and while adding a rugged d-man would be alright in my books, I just don't like the Vesalainen for Gudas move. Now, maybe package Vesalainen and/or Copp and/or Niku for a package that gets the Jets Mackenzie Weegar (plus) out of Florida, and now there's a return that would get me excited for next season!

I think you got it right the first time, letting Copp go in the expansion draft. I interpret your trade as Vesalainen (as he's exempt from Seattle selection) and the 3rd Rnd pick to protect Copp, but who do you imagine them selecting instead? Stanley? or Demelo if you protect Stanley? Not sure I want the Jets to give 3 assets instead of 1 to the Kraken just to protect Copp.

Any less then 3m and your not getting Armia
We can justify keeping him up until and maybe a little over that
But with Anderson,Toffoli,Gallagher,Caufield and option to re-sign Perry likely
after that point it becomes a tough sell
But we arent letting him walk for nothing
He's Kotkanemi's Mentor and after letting Chucky's mentor Eller go to early he spiraled.
KK is settled but having a hometown friend on the teams really helped him a lot mentally

What the Jets should be doing
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>smrtguy90</b></div><div>a) CowSaysMoo is a top 10 UN on this site... so, congrats.
b) Without naming Ehlers or 10 OA, what would you think moves the needle?</div></div>
Unfortunately, I don’t see the Wild and Jets being good trading partners. The Wild need a top-6 C when the Jets themselves need a 2C. And there is no way they are moving Scheifele. While I think Roslovic is a good player, he is not a sure fire center. The Wild need to hit with this trade and get exactly what they want. Even if that means adding on top of Dumba to get it. He is the only piece left on the roster that is moveable and can get the Wild what they need without blowing a hole.
Thanks for the name compliment. It was my old gamertag on Xbox360. Had to keep the legacy going.

Close Jets add
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>smrtguy90</b></div><div>The Jets add? Yikes.
Frankly, I don't think the Jets are interested in a 1 for 4 deal... If it's going to be anything, It's going to include a 1st round pick, and Nick Suzuki... I doubt the Habs would be interested in that, so I don't realistically see a deal happening. Further, with the supposed high asking price for Laine and Ehlers, I don't realistically see a deal with anyone. The Jets are going to want an under 25 year old top 6 forward, or an under 25 top 4 RD, and a 1st round pick.</div></div>
I guess technically Domi fits the bill, as he can roll in as a 2C or play the wing in a top-6 role.
But yeah, I tend to agree that the Jets aren't moving anyone

My Jets Wishlist
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>smrtguy90</b></div><div>What needs to be added to the ANA trade?? Legit question.</div></div>
I mean they have a LHD prospect logjam already in there so last thing they need is Stanley.
They're lacking in potential RHD prospects and RHDs in general. But they're also a rebuilding team so picks are something they need.
Usually the trade posted on this site is Manson to TOR in exchange to Liljegren+pick, because that might make sense for both teams...so that in there's probably the value of the guy.
Also can't see them being interested in a draft pick to use 3 drafts from now...
