Barzal is the isles franchise center, he’s not available.</div></div>
It's the NHL's Silly Summer, get in the mood lmao
Debrincat for draft picks, weegar + huberdeau + a 1st for Tkachuk, Bjorkstrand for a 3rd and 4th, Pacioretty and Coghlan for NOTHING, (that's the funniest to me) - this is chaos, step into the chaos pool, borthor lmao
But in fairness, yes anything you see on Twitter relating to the Red Wings is usually not backed, and besides Lou putting contracts in his desk and waiting to process them, the Isles are just as tight-lipped as the Wings.

Matt barzal to the motor city
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Db1899</b></div><div>There isn’t a realistic path to acquiring Barzal using Hronek. Picks + prospects added on wouldn’t get it done. Barzal and Dobson are two of the isles “untouchables” . The trade would have to be a significant overpay to get the isles to consider moving either one of them</div></div>
What I've heard get kicked around is something along the lines of Bertuzzi for Barzal - concept being, Kadri comes in, takes the 2C role, so they would likely prefer to drop barzal or Nelson than have one of them play 3C, and get a better winger back. I believe this necessitates moving Josh Bailey for cap reasons still, but that is actually a trade that sounds like a good deal for NYI, but maybe not one the Wings would take up now, but who knows.

Initial thought was "that's not enough cap clear or value for the Isles".
Admittedly I hadn't thought about Hronek for Barzal, I'm still locked in on trying to get Lamoriello fired for trading Dobson haha.
I think Lou is going to ask for a prospect or a pick in a trade like this as well though - maybe someone in the range of Wallinder, McIsaac, or Viro on the back end, or maybe Veleno on the front end (though that'd be tough to swallow initially as a Red Wings fan).
Dissecting what it looks like Lamoriello is trying to do, it looks like he's trying to stay in contention while building for the next 4-5 years, though I am largely basing that on the Romanov trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>trevorstanley21</b></div><div>I think this guys gonna lose his job anyways. Ultimately I agree that the Isles need to look to the future, which they kinda did with acquiring Romanov, hitting the mid-point between "get young" and "win now". They seem to want to be rebuilding on the fly while still wanting to win now, which is... difficult. If that's really what they're doing, then this may well be the right haul for Lamoriello.

I love that other people are thinking of Dobson -> Detroit haha
I think my problem with this is that the Isles are in win-now mode, so I don't necessarily think Berggren entices Lamoriello the way that it really should.
And as someone mentioned in my trade proposal, Lamoriello may lose his job if he moves Dobson. A lot closer to the right value Lamoriello would look for, but I don't think it's in the right form.

Isles cap clear for Kadri
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dutchies</b></div><div>I'm hearing rumors the extension for Dobson is already done, but they are waiting to announce it until just before the season. This could be false info, but there's no way the Isles move Dobson. If they're looking to make room for Kadri, it'll be one or two of their glut of 5-6mil forwards, and they'll probably have to pay someone to take them. Lou loses his job if he moves Dobson IMO. I could see Barzal being moved, but they'll still need to move others to make cap space for future years.</div></div>
1. Hadn't heard that on Dobson, so that at least gives life to the "Lou playing his games" bit
2. I think Bailey would be the top of the list of glut contracts, but it's hard to really single out ones that Lou would actually move or teams would take (besides Arizona or Chicago) - Palmieri comes to mind for that.
3. I think you're probably right on Lou losing his job if Dobson moves unless the return was insane
4. I think Barzal moving would open up all the room that the Isles need, variant on how they handle Varlamov next off-season and whether Wahlstrom pops tf off.
I don't think the Isles would move any d man the more and more I've reflected on this idea, but it's fun to think about.

Isles cap clear for Kadri
Explanation:
The idea being, with Kadri going to the Isles, I've heard rumblings that the Wings may be trying to pull Barzal from the Isles to clear the cap space - given how Barzal performed last season, that seems like something Lou /may/ consider, but I think that was an aberration because the team just had the worst luck, and it hit Barzal pretty bad, so I don't think Lou is going to move on from him just yet. Rumblings did seem focused on Bertuzzi for Barzal, which... could make sense for the Isles, but I'm undecided on that. I think the obvious reason Barzal is being brought up is because then they'd have Nelson, Kadri, and Barzal at center, so there'd be some line problems with 3 high end centers.
What concerns me is that Dobson hasn't been given an extension yet, which could just be Lou playing his games, or it could mean Dobson wants a long-term deal with the attached $$$ to come with it, rather than bridge-dealing at a lower hit and term.
I don't necessarily think Hronek + a 2nd is enough, though I couldn't think of what other pieces Detroit could throw in that would make this tantalizing enough for the Isles (Lindstrom, Walman, etc, these aren't necessarily pieces they'd be clamoring to get a deal pushed over the edge, if they even consider Hronek + a 2nd even close to the ballpark).
I wanna hear whether you think Detroit could have what the Isles would want to let Dobson go (excl. Seider, Edvinsson, Raymond, etc), because I would far and away prefer Dobson over Barzal, but the cap struggle of maneuvering it to happen would be complicated.
Basically just think-tanking whether this is even possible

Kicking ideas around
I'm looking at this this way - I think that Fiala is more valuable than the LAK 1st round pick @ 19, but maybe he's not valuable enough to pull in a prospect along with that? It's always important to keep in mind that Fiala's devalued because Minne's in a cap crunch.
Enter - Martin Chromiak. I'm a huge fan of this guy, I think he's a diamond that LAK picked up, but unless Rob Blake values him the same way that I do, I think LA would be willing to part with him in a trade like this.

Reaching for Slafkovsky or A CENTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildnochance</b></div><div>You don't devalue fiala because of the things you mentioned</div></div>
Player values 100% fluctuate based on the market - look at how goalie contracts were a few years ago when the free agency market was flooded with them. When you have the option of signing a free agent like Andrew Copp, Johnny Gaudreau, or Ondrej Palat, without giving up assets vs. giving up assets for Kevin Fiala, you're going to be lowering what your offer is. Plus, yes being pushed into a corner because of the cap and HAVING to trade Fiala is a lot different than having the option of keeping him and trading him anyway - you think Detroit could have swung the Mantha for a 1st, 2nd, and Jakub Vrana trade if they were against the cap? It's important to keep that perspective I think.

To counter Hitagi_Senpai, Zadina is the biggest piece in this, and Veleno isn't too far off either. I think people are already thinking Zadina is a "known quantity" but I think that's just not true, and GMs know it - Zadina's still a wildcard, so it depends what GM you're talking to whether they see him as potential high end talent waiting to burst or already a bust.
All things considered, Chicago would look at that kind of return like this - at worst, they get a depth D man, a middle-6 center, and a wildcard in Zadina that's either a 3rd liner if he's a bust or a potential 1st line winger if he explodes, plus some draft picks. All 3 pieces would be "in their potential window" if they held onto them through the entire rebuild (probably wouldn't happen), and then there's a few draft picks. For a rebuilding team, crowding your middle 6 isn't a great idea, so Chicago would really need to believe Zadina is going to pop off to consider this "fair".

I mean maybe pinto + the 1st would get Ottawa in a bit of a tizzy, but, I don't think this is too far off beyond maybe the value of the draft picks.

Reaching for Slafkovsky or A CENTER
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Wildnochance</b></div><div>Take out Beckman because otherwise not a chance Minnesota does this</div></div>
I don't know necessarily what our real position is on Beckman at this point. I LOVED watching him in preseason stuff last year, at first I was disappointed Duhaime made the roster instead of him, but quickly realized Duhaime is the better role player for the line he's on whereas Beckman is a scoring line type. What matters to me is, is Beckman going to be in the lineup this year in lieu of Fiala? There could be chemistry between him and Boldy, but who knows right now - I don't want to see Boldy get locked into the Fiala cycle of not having consistent linemates, especially because I think Gaudreau's success was piggy-backing off Fiala and Boldy, so I don't think he's capable of healthily managing two young players. Realistically, we should /hope/ to see Boldy and Rossi together next year, but then they'll need an experienced winger to lock them down, which makes me think Beckman may not get the runway he needs in Minnesota to crack into the lineup in a healthy way.
I also devalue Fiala in any trade we could make because
A) free agency is going to be flooded with high-end offensive talent this year, and
B) it's no secret Minnesota has to dump him to be cap-compliant, so that puts them into a desperate position, thus devaluing Fiala because he HAS to move (Guerin showed his hand in that interview after we got eliminated in saying that he highly values Dumba, so that's not an alternative move that the league realistically will look at as being probable).
To me, this felt like more of a stretch for Minnesota reaching NJ's value than the other way around, and I may not see a near-future for Beckman in the MN lineup, is ultimately what I'm getting at with this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CanucksInPurgatory</b></div><div>we can basically call Zadina a bust at this point.</div></div>
Strong disagree. I think this isn't a doable trade, but Zadina's shown that his skill is there, it looks more like a confidence/consistent linemates issue (similar to Kevin Fiala's inconsistency perhaps). I think Detroit hasn't given up on Zadina and he won't be traded, and whatever new coach comes in should place him next to Vrana for an extended period of time - they showed they work well together.

I concur. Moving the 1st and 2nd with Fiala seems steep at face value. And while I agree Minnesota should look to "replace" a winger, Caufield might not be the one to pull for that - someone young, for sure, but the ideal land we Wild fans should be living in is either one of the high draft picks or a high-end prospect that's under their ELC for the next 3 years of our cap hell.

For Slaf
Yah I don't see this being feasible. NJ I still believes in Blackwood, have their backup in Jonathan Bernier (so long as he can stay healthy, that's admittedly a weak point) and quite honestly, they don't need more centers, they need quality wingers, so Josh Anderson isn't the catnip he may seem to be for someone like the devils. Far as I can tell, Xhekaj isn't even really a trade chip, just meaningless cap space (watch me eat those words in a few years tho).
