Not sure, I believe he would still be an RFA & have arbitration rights, maybe hoping that goes in his favour.
I honestly think it’s all a farce regardless to see if the Leafs bite the bait on an over pay, he wants to play in Toronto.

I don’t think so - he’s not worth 12.25% cap hit let alone 12.25mil/5yrs.
I don’t see the BJs making it back in the playoffs for a few more years, I’ll take those four firsts.
Rumours say he’s rejected offers from BJs & Isles, both @ 5yr term.
Marner camp looking for a 3yr term.

I don’t know about quick, but hope that he pans out better for the Habs than the Goat did for the Leafs.

As a Leafs fan I would give Matthews + for MacKinnon
My opinion may be bias, but there aren’t many team friendly contracts in NHL stars & the best ones are out of N.S. boys.. MacKinnon, Marchand, Crosby.. Winning > Money & can’t wait to watch MacKinnon hoist Stanley in the future.
Lol would love for it to be in a Leafs jersey

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Gee the very comparable Aho get 8.45m for 5 years. Leafs should be paying maybe 8m for three years. All these high priced RFAs are waiting for one of them to sign to gauge the market value.</div></div>
These RFAs are waiting for the Leafs to make a mistake & overpay.
Mikko Rantanen, RW, COL
Brayden Point, C, TBL
Patrik Laine, LW/RW, WPG
Matthew Tkachuk, LW, CGY
Brock Boeser, RW, VAN
Kyle Connor, LW, WPG
As much as people want to blow smoke up Marner's *ss - the Leafs are not going to jeopardize a damn thing.
They are either going to
- Be firm with their public known 8yr offer
- Take four first round pick compensation from an other over paying NHL team
- Wait Mitch Marner out
- Wait for one of the above RFAs (ie Rantanen) to take a realistic offer. Heck probably a team friendly offer like his centreman has.
Rant at me if you wish - the kid doesn't deserve a sent over 9mil regardless of the term. OK maybe more for 7-8 years but not over 10mil.
People seem to want to idolize Marner like hes a god.. you think Nathan MacKinnon isn't as good or better? That's a true star player & a true team friendly contract.
If you ask me, Leafs are better off forgetting about the Toronto homeboys & take on some Nova Scotians that truly sign team friendly deals.

I think we stay firm & squeeze 3 more years in term.
Would not want to give 9.5 for a bridge deal.

October starting roster with 1
Yeah great criticism, considering he's only there because his cap matches Dermotts & I would prefer to start the season with 22 & not 21 players on my roster.
Even better that you have no answer for replacing Liljegren with another member of the Leafs.
I'm not disagreeing with you that he's young & needs work, but criticism without an answer of your own.. you might as well be shouting into an empty room because I don't care.

1. Didn’t see offers from other teams
2. Likes where he’s at but on a cap restricted team
3. Took a contract betting on himself & will probably have a good year if he stays in the top 6
4. I think will see 70+ points next year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafs6God</b></div><div>I’d rather that cap and picks if he’s offersheeted so much more than marner</div></div>
Agreed which is why is said Marner < 13% cap hit.
Which means Marner is worth less than 13% cap hit, which is $10,595,000 currently with the $81,500,000 cap. Really I think his worth is a little less than 12%. If there’s a team out there that believes he’s 13%+ then they can have him.

Marner gets Aho term and money
Totally agree with the thread starter but do believe he’s worth a bit more.
Those wanting to compare the ppg stats, c’mon Aho centres a line of lesser talent, Marner is on the wing with JT.
To this day I blame Hunter from the start for whispering in Marners ear that he’d be a centre in the NHL someday. He’s a winger & 1. Father 2. Agent has him shooting for the fences.
If he thinks he’s worth Matthews money, give him Matthews money.
6 year term
9.695mil/yr
There’s your Matthews money take it or leave it, but at a term that works for the Leafs.
Until the signed offer sheets presented there’s no other conversation.

Raptors are the Islanders of the NBA Nobody wants to go there
Islanders = Knicks
Raps took a shot in the dark & got a championship from it.
Yeah it sucks with Leonard walking but we knew he wanted to go to LA when he was a Spur, was traded to a team he didn’t want to play for & took them to their first Championship. He picked home & playing with a high school pal.
Won over a city, country and 48 states in the process.
I’ll be more sour at Marner leaving his hometown to play elsewhere than I ever will with Leonard going home to play.
It’s on him for being the first star to walk after a championship and not defend.
I want to see the thoughts from Drake tho lol

Yes i would honestly rather have Zaitsev and brown over risto or even just Zaitsev n move brown to free up cap as well as get a pick then use that saved $ to sign a cheap ufa</div></div>
We can rid of brown and do cheaper at bottom 6 LW
Yes giving the reigns to Zaitsev, a player who’s upset with the Leafs organization, trashed them in Russia media, and professed his request to leave the team, is the best interest of the Leafs to slide into the top pairing RHD spot. Good thing we put conditions on next years 1st then I guess.
Like I said before it doesn’t have to be Risto, we can attempt for Pesce, Hamilton, whoever is obtainable and on the block.
Post your proposed GM with Zaitsev in our top D pairing please, might even lure Melnyk on here to continue with his trash talk of the Leafs defence.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Wouldn't the Leafs be just as well off keeping Zaitsev, Brown and their picks?</div></div>
And we start the season with the best D in the league then right?
Dubas can only pull off so many sub 800k signings that will produce and be actually worthy of bottom line ice time. And he’ll have to pull a rabbit out of his ass to do it for the defence without some moves. Our farm isn’t ready, this is hockey, not a cow slaughter house.

So we’re still going to beat the Gardiner bush.
The man is that under appreciated by the Leaf fan base it is pathetic.
He’s going to go sign a 7x6mil+ contract as a UFA and you’re comparing Risto to him and saying Risto is a bad deal.
If we can get the results of Gardiner out of an actual RHD that is signed for the next 3 years & 5.4mil - please tell me what the damn issue is?
It could be Hamilton IDC but regardless the even mention of Gardiner leaving as good news means you don’t know hockey.
