This is the price you have to pay for a 2nd line center. It is probably a year or two too long and about 500k-750k too much, but it's better than the front office sitting on their hands waiting for the prospects to grow and become relevant. This team has a window now and this signing improves their chances. If you spend too much time looking for the long term, you never look at the short term. Hayes is a solid all-around player that will slot in well alongside players like Jake Voracek, Oskar Lindblom, and James vanRiemsdyk. No Flyer fan is going to loose sleep over this contract if he helps us go deep into the playoffs.

Overhaul for long term stability

Quoting: NateElder12

I actually like this team and trades in theory but there is no way we'd get Wennberg that cheap. Probably a bit much to give up for Trouba too since I don't see where WPG's leverage to get Wade/2nd added is coming from. Straight swap makes more sense for both sides.

Plenty of teams will be in on Trouba, I'm not sure a straight swap makes more sense but I am certain that you'd have to outbid someone else offering at least Ghost value. A second round pick and a player who might not sign with us anyway isn't a steep additional cost.

2018-19 GM Game - News and Important Info Thread
Effective immediately, I will be stepping down from my role as a General Manager in this league.
Thanks to everyone for a great season, and I would especially like to thank the BOG for their hard work and commitment. It was a really fun time, as this is a well-run and very planned out league.
Sadly, my time is taken up by school, sports, and my personal life, and I do not believe that I have time to start over again. I was barely able to keep this going as is, and I know that my life will only be getting more busy as I move on through my final years of high school, especially with finding a job soon.
Good luck to all, I hope to see you all around CF, and will continue to be apart of this awesome community of hockey fans. Thanks again,
Brenfox31

ATTENTION MEMBERS:
A majority of GMs voted to move to a full restart of the GM Game. The BOG is announcing v4, which will begin at the conclusion of the v3 Stanley Cup Finals. We have made this decision to satisfy the democratic majority, but we also understand that the goal of the GM Game is to create longevity – it is our intention to have v4 go on for multiple seasons. We thought we had created a sustainable model in v3 but the voting has shown that most people would like a fresh start.
V4 will begin with team assignments. Teams will be assigned randomly, using the current 31 GMs (unless anyone would like to opt out, in which case please notify me ASAP). Each GM will be assigned a team and will have a few days to swap teams if they can find a willing partner. These swaps must be ‘straight up’ – with no other incentives/game assets involved.
Teams will be created to use IRL rosters with a starting date in mid-May (official date TBD). Any signings/extensions that take place after this start date will not be recognized in the game.
We will keep the same schedule/timeline as proposed for v3.
An expansion draft will take place in May (teams will have roughly 1 week to make trades/buyouts and publish protection lists beforehand).
UFA and RFA extensions will take place in June/July. Each team will be allowed 1 “automatic” UFA extension.
The entry draft will take place in early June. IRL draft order will be used.
The rest of the rules will be provided shortly, but expect most things to follow suit with v3 rules (with more organization/clarity).
We will ask the Mods to archive v3 and it will become a remnant once v4 is underway.

Oof

ATTENTION GMs:
Voting for the Eastern and Western Conference Finals is now open and will run until Friday, May 3rd at 8:00 am EST. Vote using the links below. GMs that own the 1st round picks of teams involved in ARE allowed to vote in the Conference Finals; the only GMs that may not vote are the GMs of the teams involved in the matchup.
Western Conference Finals:
#1 St. Louis Blues (Home) vs #2 Vancouver Canucks (Away)
https://forms.gle/MhMH5dzJuV3DeeAz8
Eastern Conference Finals:

https://forms.gle/R2Ae89MAQyuDL6A29
Note: we will not count votes that are "straight ticket" (zeroes or tens/fours) for one team. This is the conference finals, there is no reason that any comparison should be a landslide of that magnitude, let alone all 8 categories."

2nd STL
3rd DAL
4th WSH
4th PHI
6th TOR
7th BOS
Especially for any GMs that created a page after May 19th, 2018 make sure you're not missing any picks that may have been traded by the team IRL or forgot to add when copying your team. And please for the love of everything holy and sacred, do not, and I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT CREATE A NEW PAGE WITHOUT THE TRADES FROM THE PREVIOUS PAGE AND OPT TO JUST ADD AND REMOVE ASSETS RANDOMLY. This is literally how 90% of picks and other assets are lost.
If any picks are still missing by the draft, they will simply be skipped.
Lastly, @A_K and @ricochetii, figure out which one of you own the 2019 5th COL.
Thanks,
BOG

Adding onto my last post, here's the 2019 draft tracker as of right now. Please go through and make sure all your picks are correct.

Thanks,
BOG

@NateElder12 Wow, you're doing pretty well, too. You picked Columbus to go to round 3. So far, that bold prediction seems like a smart one. At least in round 1.

Round 1 Playoff Results:
Columbus Blue Jackets vs Washington Capitals
What a matchup. Both teams went all in on their chances this year, and it is truly unfortunate that this was a first round series because both teams have the firepower to go a long way. The GM voting gave the edge to Washington – CBJ’s defensive prowess washed out Washington’s elite forwards, but the Caps’ edge in goaltending was ultimately too much for the Jackets to overcome. The Washington Capitals are moving on after a stunning 4-3 series win over the President’s Trophy winners.
Winner: Capitals in 7 (W-L-W-W-L-L-W)

Boston Bruins vs New York Islanders
The Islanders stellar goaltending was tested early and often in this series. They failed to contain possibly the deepest lineup in the playoffs. Boston had the edge in 7 of the 8 categories and was in total control from the start of the series. The 2nd seed Bruins are looking to roll through the East.
Winner: Bruins in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Toronto Maple Leafs vs Carolina Hurricanes
I thought this one would be closer than the voting ended up. The home team Toronto gained a slight edge in 6 categories, and although none were extremely significant, the net result was the Leafs at a 75% favorite going into the series. The Canes were fighting hard on the road and jumped out to an early lead, but the Leafs ultimately took the series in what turned out to be an instant classic.
Winner: Leafs in 7 (L-L-W-W-L-W-W)

Philadelphia Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins
The battle Pennsylvania was a tough first round matchup for the Flyers, who had dominated the regular season up until the last month – but the President’s Trophy runner-ups are still looking to make a deep run through the East. Pittsburgh was slightly overmatched in this one, and an early 2-0 series lead was too much for the Pens to come back from. No Flyera just yet.
Winner: Flyers in 6 (W-W-L-W-L-W)

St. Louis Blues vs Winnipeg Jets
A midseason change in upper management sent the Jets into a bit of a re-tool, but their roster was no joke going into their first round matchup versus the Blues. Ultimately, the speedy Blues had an edge on both sides of the puck, and a pretty severe advantage in net. Blues took control from the get-go and were able to take this one in front of the white-out crowd in the Peg.
Winner: Blues in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Dallas Stars vs Edmonton Oilers
Playoff McDavid? Playoff McDavid. This was the tightest matchup in the first round. The edge that Dallas possesses in net was large enough in magnitude to evenly counter a potent Edmonton offense led by the best in the business. GM voting basically yielded a wash – the Stars at home had about 49% odds going into the series. Edmonton took the first game and stole the home-ice advantage, but Dallas roared back and took 4 of the next 5 to capture a series win.
Winner: Stars in 6 (L-W-W-L-W-W)

Vegas Golden Knights vs Minnesota Wild
The Vegas Knights, looking to build upon their best season in franchise history, were going to have to do it against an up-and-coming Minnesota team that embraced the spoiler role. The GMs voted with a significant favoritism toward the Golden Knights in this one, and they made quick work of the Wild.
Winner: Golden Knights in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Vancouver Canucks vs Nashville Predators
The GM vote gave the Canucks a significant advantage in this #2 v #7 matchup. The offensive firepower for both teams made for an exciting series, but the Canucks looked like a team built for the playoffs. A blowout win in game 1 set the tone for the rest of the series, and the Canucks, led by their scary depth down the middle of the ice, never looked back.
Winner: Canucks in 4 (W-W-W-W)

Ok GM's... here's how the playoff vote tallying is gonna go down.
- GM voting establishes raw score (i.e. 50 pts possible in each series; 25-25 would be a dead tie)
- 1 pt is added to the home team's score for each game (7 games simulated, 2-2-1-1-1)
- luck is a split of 8 points, distributed randomly in each game (7 games simulated)
- each of the 7 games simulated has a winner and loser, the team with 4+ wins in the simulation that I press 'go' for is the winner of the series
I'll publish the results as a 4-X result with a little blurb about each one, and then later on i'll publish the scoring sheets (they'll show the results of the 7-game sim and the win% probability of the home team based on 924 simulations)
why 924? that's where my sheet ended :)
