This whole Boone situation is spiraling out of context.

This started with Toronto writers suggesting that Boone would be a perfect fit in Toronto. Then NHL network people suggested he would be a fit in Buffalo. This led to a bunch of proposals for likely what Boone's actual value is if the Jackets were shopping him starting to come up all over. These packages included b prospects, a late first or fringe roster players. Kinda what you would expect for what Jenner really is. The issue though is that Boone Jenner is not a player the Jackets have any desire to trade and they really don't need any of these things considering where their prospect pool is. What they need is a player like Boone Jenner who provides leadership and a veteran presence. This led to Blue Jackets writers and fans basically creating the hypothetical price it would take for the Jackets to trade him away. Around here is where fans from other teams came in halfway through and started thinking that Jenner is being shopped and Jackets fans just think that this is straight up what he's worth. We don't. We know his worth, but that price isn't worth trading him for and the Jackets don't want to trade him to begin with. We're basically saying, if you want to have this conversation about trying to acquire the Jackets captain, you need to bring a ridiculous package to the table that will make you as equally uncomfortable with acquiring Jenner as the Jackets are with the concept of trading him away. The team is not a last place team despite where they are right now. They are disproportionately affected by injuries and have every reason to expect to be much better next season. It would have to be an absolute steal of a trade for the Jackets to consider moving on from the guy they've had in the organization for 12 years, just extended for another 4 and named their team captain. Otherwise, let's all just end the conversation and go on our separate ways. There doesn't have to be any sniping of each others teams or insults thrown around. Frankly there is beginning to be stupid, hyperbolic things said on both sides of this conversation and it just needs to go away already.
