I want to clarify my position. I do not believe a late 1st (31-32 OA) is a fair return for getting access to what Panarin has brought and will continue to bring to a team. I do think there are some indicators that the Rangers at at one of those places with Panarin. Here's my point of view:

1) Regardless of what he does in the regular season, the Rangers ex-coaching staff and the fans seem to have lost faith in what he can do in the playoffs
2) There are not a ton of teams who can take on 11.6M in cap over 3 years, especially for an older, albeit still productive, player
3) If the Rangers move salary they can use the cap space to resign Lafreniere &amp; Miller to long term team friendly deals
4) They may believe that moving Panarin out will create space to let their equally talented younger players express themselves with more ice time

Maybe it's not the case, but one thing is certain, moving on from great regular season players who "cannot get it done" in the playoffs is a theme this offseason, and Panarin is at the top of the list in terms of age, cap hit, and term, but maybe 4th or 5th in terms of skill. He's gonna be hard to move.</div></div>

i'm not familiar with the Vanek situation, so I cannot comment but Vegas was a whole different scenario. they HAD to move Patches out.
Rangers do not need to move on or move Panarin. they will bridge Miller and Laf, worst case buyout Goody.
perennial 90 point players with no evidence of regression do not get moved for pennies on the dollar, regardless of subpar postseason play.
