If Treliving pulls off this trade with Ottawa I’d French kiss him, there’s no way Ottawa let’s Chychurn, top pairing dman whose 25 and plays on both special teams, go for top 4 dman and a late first and second rounder. Knies, minten or Cowan would have to be in the deal. liljegren is a solid NHL dman but he’s not Chychrun

You're not gonna sign elite players on 3-4 year deals. If they can win a cup it's worth it

cup contender easy
If they don't resign him at a reasonable amount or he walks it's a bad trade.Hunter Brzustewicz has so much upside, and that's a lot of assets to give up for a potential rental whose not even having a good season.

Duclair is FA this summer why not just sign him for free? also Carlson's 34 Marner 27. No way Leafs do this. Capitals would have to add a lot more.

thoughts
A lot of Leafs fans are panicking because of the recent slide. They need to understand this isn't the year to contend nor is next year. It's 2025-2026 which cap is supposed to really go up (92.5 million) and Tavares contract comes off. If they can sign some dmen like Forsling, Pesce, Hanifin, and/or Theodore to go along with Liljegren, McCabe, and Rielly and the prospects/young continue to evolve as expected (Knies, Robertson, Woll, Hildeby, Niemela, Minten, Cowan) this team could be a Stanley cup contender. I don't see the point of trading first round picks or prospects to short term solutions and small playoff pushes (trades for Foligno and O'Reilly come to mind). Just be patient Leafs fans I know it's hard but wait for that cap to go up.

a 4th maybe. He has some upside and should be a bottom pairing dman on reasonable contract. I honestly don't know why Keefe is playing Benoit over him

I know but Nikishin has so much upside, he's a beast in the KHL at only 22. If the Leafs sign key defensemen like above, I think Rielly can be expendable.

yes 15 games is a sample size of a season. if he's a top 10 goalie by your standards, you haven't watched a full NHL season. If Woll puts up say 2.80 gaa and .905% with first round exits the next two years, I'd think it would be time to move on from him, and go watch Saros play then get back to me when you have.

um Woll is projected, not GUARENTEED to be a starting goalie, and hasn't accomplished anything in the NHL, and hasn't played more than 15 games in an NHL season so on the logic comment you gotta look in the mirror. Oh and I haven't even mentioned Woll's injury issues.

not a chance, he's putting up 50 points at 35, he's not Ovechkin or Crosby I'd give him 3. For 6 million I'd sign an Adam Henrique and a top 9 winger.

I know but what are they gonna do? The only option is to trade him for that elite defence man they need and that time has passed. If the cap goes up to 92 million to the following season they should be fine with Tavares coming off the books. Wouldn’t mind seeing a Forsling or Theodore on backend

I’ll correct myself he’s overpaid. I’d say he’s worth more like 9-9.5 million per season

Marner To LA
Yeah Dubois come across as a brat wherever he plays, I don't trust that guy giving 100% for the full length of his contract. To get Marner on an extended deal, you'd have to give up a Byfield type of player rather than Clarke, and as others have stated if any of the big stars in TO are traded its going to be for an elite dman. Yes Marner is vastly overpaid, but he's also an elite defensive player, whether people see it or not, so you're getting the total package with him, where Nylander is more one dimensional.

Leafs Without Marner
A lot of term and money for players over 30 years old. I like the Middleton signing but that’s about it. Would rather go after a Pesce, Slavin, or Hanifin instead of Larson. Also Tavares get max 2.5 million at 35 for two years and he should be happy with it. He’s going to decline rapidly. I’d rather keep Marner over Ehlers and Bertuzzi but I do see your point about using Mariner’s money elsewhere. I made a similar post for Nylander. In short the Leafs can’t spend 45% of their cap on 4 players anymore

Huh Wtf
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>so not resigning nylander is the way to go?</div></div>
If he doesn’t budge on what he wants yes. Look at Bo Horvat in Vancouver, management and his agent couldn’t meet on a number so he was traded. Got some assets back and freed up salary this season to sign free agents. Mind you Tocchett has a lot to do with their success, but what I’m saying is that if the Leafs lose Nylander it’s not the end of the world. They can sign a top pairing dman and a top six forward for $11.5 million. I’d love a Pesce and Toffoli addition to this team. toffoli is no Nylander but I’d take the upgrade on the backend for sure, especially come playoff time
