Better defensively
It's pretty close to fair for this year, and in 1-3 years it'd be an L for the Sabres, and probably a big one IMO.

Jarvis has a lot more value than Garland. I’d be shocked if Carolina considered trading him

Oh absolutely. But my point is that's a tall ask for a 21 year old rookie. If he does that at 23 or 24 we should be happy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PrisonMike</b></div><div>Myers is in last year of deal, you get Boeser top 6 forward with rfa status</div></div>
But he's not playing like a top 6 forward?
He's getting outscored two-to-one at 5v5, that's terrible for a guy with a 6.65m cap hit.
And the Devils are taking on one of the worst performing defenders in Tyler Myers for another 6m in cap implications WHILE TRADING OUT A TOP 4 RHD IN JOHN MARINO ARE YOU SERIOUS WITH THIS
Why wouldn't the Devils just give Kuzmenko that 6m deal, keep John Marino and not bother with Boeser and Myers cmon man

Our main weakness is at LhD, not RW. We need Matt Roy; we definitely don't need Conor Garland.

Bedard redo OEL deal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DoBap</b></div><div>I get wanting to erase the OEL deal, especially now that all the bad contracts VAN erased are now off the books.
But even Garland for Guenther would be an easy decline, and VAN would need to pay big to lose OEL.</div></div>
Every single non-deluded Canucks fan knew it was a horrific trade from the start, from a desperate pathetic shrivel of a man trying to cling onto any hope of keeping his job.
**** you Jim Benning, you absolute horrible kunt.

Pasta is getting more than $9,000,000 per, try more like 7 x $10,500,000 to 7 years $11,500,000 minimally he wants close to Panarin money.

What Dubas should of done
Thats the difference between having a great GM and whatever Dubas is.
Also the fact Stevie Y pulled out a great-looking 6'8 winger with a 6th round pick lol. that guy has been a gem for them.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>drambui</b></div><div>you cant win a trade if no players played a single game yet</div></div>
You absolutely can, and the Flames did just that.
Matt Tkachuk is a really good player, and is young.
But Treliving lost his best winger/player, in Gaudreau, and turned around and traded his 2nd best player for a better winger who is just as good as Gaudreau (Huberdeau), and also fleeced Zito by also getting a legitimate top-four defenseman (Weegar), and a prospect whose tracking to be another NHL player in his own right.
Then managed to sign that better top-six winger and top-four defenseman to long-term contracts.
He won the trade the second he got Huberdeau to sign long-term. He officially won it by a landslide once Weegar re-signed today.
Case closed.

Matthews will for sure want to be the highest paid in the league. Depending on what the cap is, so people think it will be around 91.5 million.

Bjorkstrand fetched a third and a fourth. Kerfoot is worth less than that.

Draft pick going the wrong way in that Kings trade. There should also be significantly more salary retention (50%) and some salary heading back to Toronto (Sean Walker).

The year of an elite dcore
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PrisonMike</b></div><div>okay say they don't sign Klingberg, that's money to pay Liljegren and Sandin. The Leafs the following season (2025-2026) have close to 25 million if the cap goes up to sign Marner, Niemela, and Tavares (which will likely be 4 million I'm guessing). That's enough to keep the core together. Liljegren is a for sure NHL player, Niemela has talent but that doesn't guarantee anything anyways, and Sandin is sort of up in the air. I'd rather pay established players. Maybe they let Sandin go for a bottom pairing dman?</div></div>
Ideally though, Sandin and Liljegren come into their own in two years time, and that they would be top 4 D-man, signing them would be much cheaper than ufas, they can probably sign them for 4-6m depending on the term and their ability at the time. If Niemela does progress nicely in his development he should be ready as well by then and wouldn't be as costly either. In your ACGM, you have like 29m allocated to defense which is pretty high, and would be fine if the Leafs were wanting to spend on their bank end a ton instead of their forwards, can't do both though. Without Klingberg, it makes things a little bit more sustainable but eventually they will have too many big ticket defenders.

Klingberg’s contract expires after this year. Next offseason he’ll probably sign long term so he wouldn’t be available the next offseason, 2024-2025
