24-25 after 23-24 TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>No worries, yesterday there were a few MTL fans that wanted players NOW, dont want picks, etc...
As for Barron, I like his upside, but not sure its a high top 4 upside, and with MTL depth at defense with youth (Guhle, Struble, X, Harris on LD and Maillot and reinbacher at RD on the way = and no one is going to play 5-6 youngsters) I just thought that Barron might not have more value than he has now and Laughton is a good two way vet to go between the middle 6 with young guys.</div></div>
Honest question, would you want Philly to trade a 22 year old player who's already shown significant flashes at the NHL level for a middle six veteran who's about to turn 30? I don't want to speak for others, but I doubt they were talking about guys like Laughton.
Montreal also doesn't need veteran placeholders at forward, they need the veterans they have to get healthy. They've gotten a combined 26 games from two guys they expected to play middle 6 C for them this season. Plus Montreal has the capspace that they can just eat a bad contract for a season to get that veteran.
And if Montreal were to trade Barron right now, it be for a similarly aged middle 6 forward/upside prospect or a pick. Or as part of package for a more impactful player.

Dobson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Kyle_Okposo_Lover</b></div><div>MTL DECLINES?? WHAT lmao</div></div>
Guhle is literally, EXACTLY 2 years younger than Dobson. Exactly.
Dobson, exactly at same age as Guhle's first season, as almost EXACTLY the same numbers.
Guhle is also giving bone crushing hits and an elite skater.
He's 2 years younger and on the EXACT same trajectory.
So yes, Habs decline, just because there's no need.
The real question is... LHD or RHD. And 2 years difference.
Please, look at the stats from both players, and realize - if you can refrain from allowing your bias blind you - that whoever posted this trade - is way closer in trade value than your knee-jerk uninformed reaction projects.
You can spit your coffee laughing but ZERO GM around the league would consider Dobson MILES ahead of Guhle... when they were both 21 years old.

Fit for both teams
Perrault is out top RW prospect and while he's been unimpressive in the A so far, he also entered as a double underager due to COVID shutdowns in his own league. We have a new coaching staff down there who will get him in the right path. Most importantly, he's still waivers proof and we're still jammed up at wing with Silfverbwrg and others.
This deal doesn't work for us.

Because Monahan was signed as a UFA after the UFA period was opened, I don’t think they’re allowed to trade him before a certain date (Jan1?).
Can someone else confirm that?

A problem is people don't know that Ottawa didn't want to trade Pinto for DeBrincat last year and for Chychrun last March. They value him very highly
Mesar is a good prospect but absolutely zero chance they value him as highly as Pinto even IF they decided to trade Pinto (very unlikely)
The 3rd and 4th have very little impact here

Habs would accept that. I like Barron a lot, but our biggest need is offence. JJP offers exatcly that.
From the Sabres perspective, I like this trade a lot. I think Barron would be a perfect fit for Dahlin. Buffalo doesn’t have big defensive prospects and Barron would complete that top 4. And losing JJP isn’t a problem, since they have Kulich who will replace him in the near future

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Maxmax2005</b></div><div>Funny enough I was just thinking the same thing, they have a rly good bottom 6</div></div>
Very good. Their top 6 is starting to look very interesting as well if Cooley can live up to his super star potential.
The fact that their bottom 6 is this good, it will really take pressure off guys like Cooley and Hayton. Which may free them up quite a bit.
Very interested to see how this team does. Dumba signing was perfect as well (for both parties). I was calling them a perfect fit WEEKS before he signed in Arizona as well.
Time will tell.

No, MTL wouldn’t consider because we wouldn’t target Korchinski
Maybe Oliver Moore + Lukas Reichel + I don’t even know, but at least Moore + Reichel would be the foundation for a trade

Zegras
Now this is an interesting proposal for Zegras, and it would be very hard for PV to turn down. Could also see Zegras being motivated to sign longterm to play with Caufield. Not sure how interested in Barron Anaheim would be with their defensive prospect pool, but this feels like a relatively fair offer for both sides. Something I'm not used to seeing on CF.

getting another 1st
I know Habs fans love this guy and will defend him to their deaths, but at some point we have to look at some Josh Anderson Facts:
-In the 7 seasons since he became a full-time NHL player (2016-17), he's missed 13+ games four separate times, and has only had perfect attendance in one season. As the old saying goes, "the best ability is avail-ability" - maybe a little cliche, but Anderson's injury history has to be at least an orange flag, if not a fully red one.
-Josh Anderson will be turning 29 in May - happy early birthday! Unfortunately, when you combine that age with his injury history, you are looking squarely at age when players start declining - there have been a handful of studies that point out 25-28 as the typical scoring peak ages for forwards. Anyone acquiring Josh Anderson at this point is getting him for his age-29 through -33 seasons; one only needs to look at Milan Lucic before and after his 29th birthday to make this an extremely bright, blinking, neon, blindingly red flag. (Lucic before his 29th birthday: 729 GP, 182-265-447, 0.61 PPG; Lucic after turning 29: 444 GP, 51-86-137, 0.31 PPG)
-Josh Anderson gets paid $5.5M per year for the rest of his deal. This year, there were 61 NHL forwards who played a game on a contract making them between $5M and $6M AAV. Josh Anderson's 0.46 PPG was 53rd out of those 61 players. The only players with a lower PPG than him were Evgeni Dadonov, Jordan Staal, Anthony Mantha, Josh Bailey, Kyle Okposo, Jakob Silfverberg, Lucic, and Patric Hornqvist. Do with that information what you will.
-Josh Anderson has played in 43 NHL playoff games in his career, scoring an 8-6-14 line in those games. He scored one goal apiece in three different trips to the playoffs with the Blue Jackets, totaling 21 GP; he put up a 5-1-6 line in 22 GP during Montreal's Cup Final run in the bubble. In those playoffs, he had two games where scored 2 goals, and 20 other games where he scored 1 goal and 1 assist combined.
I understand the argument for intangibles, but at some point there's only so much value you can put on that. I know that all it takes is one GM to make a dumb move, and also that the Habs have no real reason to sell off a player they can easily afford under the cap, but if there's any truth to the rumor that Hughes has already turned down a 1st rounder straight up for Josh Anderson, then we need to seriously reevaluate how good of a GM he actually is.
