I don’t think a Byram is a long term piece Makar will be making 12m+ a season shortly and they just committed long Term to Toews. The only way he is long term is if he is 3/4 type guy which only makes 4-6M and if that is the case he isn’t worth what Ave’s fans want for him

Buyout would put him on the cap for 2 more years and after next year the leafs have big tickets coming for Matthew and Nylander and I don't think there will be a market to trade him unless its a huge asset so i think the best bet is to bury him and bite the bullet for this year so he is cleared off the books next year and we aren't giving away assets that we could use to improve at the deadline or just to draft some younger cheaper players.

The Anaheim trade is a bad trade but I do like the Idea of landing Rakell but they price would be steep but I think he would be the perfect fit for the flames cheap salary for 30g 60P guy. I would think it would be a 1st ++

Johnny Hockey and Lucic - Cap Neutral Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaptJosef</b></div><div>Whenever I hear this I can't help but think how contradictory it is. Adding Frost or Farabee for Gaudreau makes the Flames worse now too. Sure in the long term it (if Frost and Farabee progress as we hope) levels out but if definitely say my offer helps the Flames more right now. I doubt there's a deal that can be made that leaves the Flames better off after moving Gaudreau in terms of his pure skill level for cap hit. Frost was a 27th overall pick, you get to draft your own Frost with the 1st rounder.</div></div>
I don't think its contradictory I just think its a move that makes Calgary a worse team for sure(Giving up the best player in the deal) and still have cap problems so it would be hard to improve to become a contender so if you are trading Gaudreau for a player like Frost and a 1st or one of their young Dman you would get some Cap flexibility back to add some more depth plus a very good looking young player who looks ready to play.

I think with price anything can happen. I think Hall is a game breaker they are missing. Could probably use one more top 4 Dman on the left side maybe you could get fowler or Lindholm out of Anahiem use Lehkonen and whatever else it may take. Would that change your opinion?

Mark stone is a good player but has never scored 30 in the league or had over 65 pts
Hall has topped out at 39 and 93 and has won a hart and they are both 27 I could be wrong here but i think most would take Hall over Stone
Oh and hall has done this on bad teams as you indicated with his lack of winning

This deal doesn't improve the flames or its cap situation I think any trade for Gaudreau would be a straight prospect deal and would have to start with Morgan Frost

If TO and Calgary were to make a blockbuster
if you are trading marner for tkachuk it is because you think he is at the very least and equal player ( I would argue he is better than marner) then you need to take into account that he makes over 3 million less you will have to add to this trade! moore is a fine player but he is also no different than derek ryan if anything he is less proven. I'm really not sure there is anything Toronto could trade Calgary for their future Captain.

Blues trade year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Schwartz is injured....again. Where does the Leafs? Leafs LW is very goo. Cap reasons it certainly doesn't work for Leafs as the Leafs have to zero bonuses carryover into next year. Leafs need the cheap ELC Liljgren to play RHD very soon. Can't Pietrangelo be traded to an other team besides the Leafs? (which is the trend). Tampa can't afford him next year either.
That's a problem often with trading high priced (good) players to contenders. These contenders have no cap...except for maybe retained expiring contracts at TDL. Extending these players into the following year without equal cap coming back are difficult trades.</div></div>
Leafs cover all bonus carry overs from 2017/18 and the current year in this season even with the trade and still have 1.5 in space in the 2018/19 season they will have zero carryover to the 2019/2020 season

Blues trade year 2
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Leafs say no. Leafs don't need help at LW. Is Pietrangelo that good NOW. Cap wise it doesn't work at all for the Leafs. Bonus carryover from 2018/19. I can't imagine some of RFAs accepting so little....that could be UFAs.
Zaitsev probably can't be traded without cap being sent back to the Leafs.[/quote
Leafs have enough cap space this year to cover bonus there shouldn't be any carryover. Your right about zaitsev would be tight to move but you can also flip Brown and bring up Grundstrum its real tight in this year but once marleau is done it opens up more cap space. Also I was conservative on the bump in cap space only moving it 2.5M good chance it could go up another 1m-2m on top of that.</div></div>

Schwartz is a top line guy your right but its 50/50 whether he plays 80 games or 30 games each year which carries a lot of risk. How much more would the leafs have to give up in your opinion. My thought was he and nylander are more or less equals. If you remove them from the trade its similar return that Ottawa got for Karlsson who has multiple Norris trophies not just Top 9 in voting

Getting a defenseman and top 9 forward
Check out the next post would take some bridge deals being pushed on other guys and hoping guys in the minors are ready but I think its possible and one thing I didn't do in the next year that is possible to is move connor brown and bring up Grundstrom. Once you get past the 2019-2020 year and marleau comes off the books things are in better shape

I would agree with you but I think it is an interesting starting point. I think if you remove Foo and the 3rd and put in a defensemen who can jump into pitts tops 6 would start to be more interesting. The cap room it would create going forward would be valuable to the flames.

I think its the other way around If the leafs want Chabot they will have to start with Nylander and add a pick or prospect.
