<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>It's going to be so disappointing for so many Leafs fans, and so many users on this site, when Tavares signs elsewhere. I am not convinced he's made up his mind yet, but I would think San Jose is looking pretty good. If he gets to Saturday without a decisions, I would think the Islanders are out, and it's down to 5, but I am still not sure the Leafs make the top of the list.</div></div>

Honestly I'm happy either way but I do think it'll be funny if he signs in TO for 2 reasons.

1) Leaf fans will lose their minds (Parades will be planned, babies will be renamed, cats and dogs living together, it'll be insanity.)
2) Non Leaf fans will also lose their minds, they'll go even more nuts

As for what decision he makes, its anyones guess at this juncture. However, I think if you look at this options and the only real options where a team can make it work long term and be competitive there are 2 maybe 3 options outside of the Islanders. Tampa isn't really an option, they have no cap space as is and needs to resign so many guys next year that they are basically out. Boston can possibly make it work but they also have limited cap space and would have to let some young guys go if they took on JT. Dallas is in the same boat as Boston but with a little more flexibility (Seguin needs a new contract next season) San Jose and Toronto both can afford Tavares and both are good teams. So lets say San Jose and TO are the front runners.

Pros and Cons are there for both teams, I'll only mention the main pros for each team.

San Jose will give Tavares a chance to win and their greatest selling point is the weather and anonymity that players enjoy in a non hockey market.

For Toronto they have a tonne of skill and are trending towards being one of the best teams in the league. (This is one of 2 options where he'd go and not be asked to be the teams best player, Tampa being the same situation)

If he leaves the Islanders (there arena situation is a huge detriment) then he has two real good options in San Jose and Toronto. It'll all depend on what he sees as most important to him. Winning or money and comfort.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MG1986</b></div><div>Hey <a href="/users/LoganOllivier" target="_blank">@LoganOllivier</a>, since you were nice enough to comment on my thread, I would like to reciprocate. I believe I have found a creative way to utilize that 1-year max offer to Tavares, since we all know it is incredibly risky of him to sign purely a 1 year deal. I am more than happy for you to use my CBA circumvention strategy to your thread's benefit, if you'd like. I like the Tanev deal but feel it may not be enough. I think without Martin we will need some muscle, so you have addressed that. Finally, I would agree and think Carl Grundstrom is more than ready to be given a serious look at training camp. He may have jumped over Leivo on the depth chart after his great Calder Cup playoffs.</div></div>

Thanks bud.

I'm not a huge believer in needing muscle, but you do need your players to have some push back. Watching a lot of the Jets these playoffs I look at Scheifele and want all the Leafs to play like him (Specifically Matthews). If someone roughed up one of his linemates he was in there mucking it up. If your leaders don't take ****, no one takes any ****.

As for Grundstrom, he's never played in the NHL. I know he's looked good in the AHL and has talent but until he wins a job in the preseason, I put him below Leivo who we know can score in the NHL.

One idea I thought of after I posted this, before the ink is dry on the 1 year deal, TO should offer an 8 year deal to JT for somewhere around 7.5 million. Its a long term cap hit that is very manageable and tradeable. It also close to the dollar he'll get if he goes for a 7 year deal at over 10 million. It truly is a way to circumvent the cap. The 1 year deal is basically a signing bonus on his 8 year deal.
