Instead of Subban
Only debate here is whether or not Kessel and Subban are swapped.
Preds have no need for yet another middle 6 player in Rust.

Admittedly, I'm not very high on Ellis after his performance last year during both the regular season and postseason, but I'm not sold on moving him for Kessel. NSH likely gets more value elsewhere due to his contract.

David Poile may decide that since PK is the better player (which he is) that he'd be more willing to move Ellis. Granted, the optics of moving Ellis before his team-friendly extension (below market value, no trade protection) kicks in would not be very good.</div></div>
Absolutely agreed. It's ultimately Poile's job to put the best possible team he can on the ice, so he'll weigh all options—including a damage assessment of dishing someone before their new extension kicks in. I'm curious to see how this summer plays out.
Personally, I'd rather hold onto Subban, but I understand it takes two to tango. Some teams will prefer PK while others would want Ellis. Until then, I'll be here with the popcorn.

Srsly, it will be PK, not Ellis. I do not know universe, where Poile will trade him, instead of PK this year... 1st.</div></div>
While I agree we're more likely to see Subban on the move than Ellis, he's not untouchable. I'm going to try and read between the lines here and say you don't want to trade Ellis because you think he is a better player, better value, or something similar. That's the exact reason why other teams would want him instead of PK. Swapping in Ellis instead of PK is something that may get ultimately get a deal done.

Everyone says Nashville can get younger help, but nobody that is younger appears to be available for what Poile would want to move.
Who is available that is younger? I’m genuinely asking.

Nashville would be selling at an all-time low with Turris, so why not give him a chance to bounce back? Worst case scenario he struggles and then you can move him for a late round pick in January—which is what you'd maybe get now anyways.
I can understand finding a move for cap space, but the other pieces have to fall in place to justify clearing cap.

Big move with NSH plus moves with MIN and EDM
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blowing_the_zone</b></div><div>I hear ya on that. I think the very reason that the Preds would want to keep and move on from the others (if needed) is the same reason that the leafs would want to aquire him instead of the others.. contract price tags are super important.
If I'm reading between the lines here, I'm guessing that you're suggesting some trade centered around Johnsson or Kap would likely be a nonstarter and you're fishing for Nylander... I really don't think Dubas has any interest in moving him at all, but I certainly could be wrong..if it was the right trade.</div></div>
I'd say you're spot on. Preds have to move someone with a significant cap hit to free up room, however, the pieces Poile would ultimately agree to move for a scoring threat like Nylander aren't as appealing to other teams for that exact same reason.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>blowing_the_zone</b></div><div>Hey BB. You do quite a few Preds trades.. what, if even possible, would it take to pry out Fabbro?</div></div>
As it currently stands, it'd take a true offensive talent to acquire Fabbro. His emergence is a huge factor in the Preds being willing to shop their other defensemen. Keep in mind, he is much less expensive—which allows further flexibility when trying to add goal scorers.
My gut says it's unlikely Poile would move Fabbro prior to Seattle expansion. The more difficult decisions are likely revolving around the other d-men.

Preds
If you can move Turris and Smith, why bother trading Subban? The whole point of moving PK would be to make cap space for goal scorer up front. Trading Turris and Smith make that possible without having to touch NSH's defensive corps.

All fair points.
On the flip side, NSH's blue line is indeed getting older (not unable to play older, but still older). Fabbro is the only young defensemen they have. I believe it'd take a lot more than Kessel to move the future.

NSH declines. Fabbro provides quality on a very affordable contract for the Preds. Furthermore, NSH would have to move another piece be able to absorb Kessel's contract. It'd be easier for Poile to offer Subban / Ellis in this scenario and cut out the middleman.
Nonetheless, I don't think a one for one gets the job done.

My gut is this is more about Rinne's desire to finish his career in Nashville. With the Seattle draft looming, are the Preds comfortable exposing Saros (who has been excellent) to keep Pekka? That scenario may be forcing his hand a tad.

Admittedly, I'm biased, but I also don't believe NSH's window is closed. For some perspective, the Preds won the Central. Albeit, the Central was a **** show, but they got the job done nonetheless with a 100 point regular season.
Keep in mind, this was done with a historically bad powerplay. If that powerplay is slightly below average instead of an absolute dumpster fire, the Preds could still be playing hockey. Not only was the powerplay horrendous, but they were also a one-line team. Opposing teams needed to shutdown Forsberg-Johansen-Arvidsson to be in a good position to win the game. With a surplus of defensemen, it makes sense to move one for some offensive firepower.

Subban
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dgfresh78</b></div><div>I feel like this is a situation that is similar to what happened with Kessel in Toronto. Nashville hasn't performed well in the playoffs since being a cup finalist in 2017. I think PK is being scapegoated as the reason the team has underperformed. This could force David Poille to make a panic move and I think he'd definitely love to have Hornqvist back. I think of Nashville as a place Hornqvist would accept a trade to as he had many successful years there and fits Nashville's style of play. This is one of those best case scenario things so we'll see.</div></div>
No rumblings of character issues here in Nashville. Here is the situation:
With the emergence of Fabbro, the Preds now have five viable d-men. Fabbro is on an ELC, Ekholm’s contract is too good to move, Josi needs to be re-signed (which will be a substantial raise), Ellis’ extension kicks in this summer, and then we’re all well-versed on PK.
Nashville needs firepower upfront and they have more than enough on the blue line. A defensemen gets moved in the hopes of putting more dynamic goal scorers on the ice. Given the info above, it’s pretty clear PK is the one who likely gets moved.

Agreed here. Can't see how Columbus would be better by moving more forwards when you've already lost your high powered scoring threats to free agency (assuming that indeed happens)
If anything, CBJ <em>could</em> be interested in Turris assuming all their big UFAs leave, but Turris' trade value isn't exactly at an all-time high at the moment. The return wouldn't be sizeable.

I'm curious to see if Poile does indeed finally get Duchene. Time will tell.
While I like Craig Smith, people forget he makes the same amount of money as Arvidsson. He's a volume shooter and the Preds need true finishers. He's a name that hasn't popped up a ton here, but I think his potential to be moved is more than people realize.

You're looking at this the correct way. This is why this summer is so big for NSH and why they have to move big contracts now. Re-signing your captain and stud D-man will be top priority. He rightfully will command quite the raise so you have to be in a position to make that offer.
