Ceci is better than people are giving him credit for. He's playing top pairing minutes but isn't a top pairing guy, he's actually a pretty reliable defender. I agree on almost everything you said. Wings have a lot of Cap space and they should utilize it. If we can get a 2nd round pick for just taking on Carter, I do that anyday. What I am still sceptical about: Young guys getting scratched / less icetime just so we can give Pearson and Bailey icetime who have no future with the team.

Of course it depends on what the Flames plans are going forward, but lets say they would do a re-tool. Does Lindholm have more trade value as a 28y old UFA than Debrincat, Meier and Chychrun?

Take out Veleno, Fabbri, Sebrango out of this trade and switch the 2024 1st for a 2026 3rd round pick and you have Debrincat trade value when he was a 23y old RFA. There is zero chance Detroit would do this trade and zero chance that the Flames would get a better offer for him than this.
