Montreal Canadiens signed Josh Anderson (7 Years / $5,500,000 AAV)
Risky AF. Bridge deal wasnt possible so 4-5years was probably the safe option. Hope it works out, and then his contract might look very good over time, with cap increase. But no garantee. Crossing fingers

Well this a horrible contract and means that one of Gallagher or Armia doesn’t come back next year

Could be like Horton too. Columbus gave him a major deal in free agency before injuries quickly ate the rest of his career. Clarkson wasn't an IR resident when he signed in Toronto.

Reminder that this guy had one goal in 26 games last year and is coming off of major shoulder surgery.
I mean, there's a chance he bounces back but.....ooof.

Columbus Blue Jackets signed Max Domi (2 Years / $5,300,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dopplsan</b></div><div>End of the day, Anderson would (at best) been signed to a similar contract if CBJ kept him. Doubt he would have signed anything longer than 3 years, and I’d be surprised if he does in MTL, unless they are willing to gamble on his shoulder before he gets an opportunity to play.
2x5.3 is fine. If he performs, they can get an extension done starting after next season, and he’ll still only be 27 when the contract expires. If it’s a s*itshow, they can cut bait after two years, and at least have a third rounder to show for it.
Of course, if Andy shows out in MTL, makes it look a lot worse</div></div>
Sorry but I disagree twice:
1) Anderson's next contract wont be even close to this. More in the 3-4M range. Baertshi's is the best comparable.
2) CLB has 0% chance of resigning Domi. The whole point of this deal is to walk him stait to free agency so he can pick his team of choice.

The guy made the team and was solid until 2 pucks to the same eye in the same game.
Saying this is a bad deal is stupid, to be fair.

Grans is very good in terms of 1 on 1 play and gap control. Yes he's not the greatest position wise but he can easily fix that with good coaching and considering his toolbelt

Arizona Coyotes signed Ilya Lyubushkin (1 Year / $1,000,000 AAV)
Very underrated defenseman getting a prove it deal. He could really up his game and get a larger raise next year. Issue is more of where he plays. ARZ needs to move guys out.

Fair AAV, too much term. I would have preferred 3 years as he'll be 34 when it kicks in

He's made more good trades than bad trades. The only obvious bad trade was Drouin for Sergechev but it's not like Sergechev became an Elite defensemen.

Yes they regress but then look at guys like Giordano/Chara/Weber/Suter who can play well into their 30's. Defensemen rely more on their IQ and passing skills which doesn't really regress. They don't need speed to play their position.

Considering there is no clause and this AAV, I think it is a good move by MB. It is also making Petry a prime candidate for Seattle if his performance do not meet the expectations.
What I really don't like is that our top-2 D are getting old... really old :(
