Wouldn’t be against it. He could stay few more years if he wanted also. MTL have a lot of nhl players under contract next year. :)

Saw a lot of 2x1st rounder to dump Campbell. I tought that a 1st and Berezkin was more reasonable.

I know that Leonard isn’t a Zegras kind of player and isn’t in the CHL.
You were talking about a game changer in the 2024 draft. I guessed you were talking about Lindstrom, Catton or Iggy. That’s why I was talking about the CHL. It is relatively easy to outbody or break ankles of 16-17-18-19 years old. It is another thing to do it against men.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>Nah, that's just a bunch of rumors. And if they were true, PHI probably wouldn't have picked him either.
Reason they didn't pick Michkov, imo, is because they didn't have access to him, to scout him in person, and to be able to develop him with their own staff, until his contract is up in a few years. Development seems to really be a focus with MTL. Even with Reinbacher, they had full control on if they wanted to send him to Kloten or keep him in Laval. And even in Switzerland, they were sending their own guys to work with him throughout the year (Ramage, Bouillon, etc.). Same will apply with Demidov, they have zero access to the player, until he would sign and come over.</div></div>
The fights are not rumors, there are clips. :tearsofjoy
Montreal was the team with the easiest access/knowledge/possibilty to have a word on his development through Bobrov dad. Fans are ignoring the red flags and they are so evident.

They didn’t pick Michkov because of his attitude. He fought his teamate or ex-teamate twice (Miroshnichenko and Remezovsky). He kicked a teamates in the locker room because he was in his way. He’s getting loaned from SKA even if he is one of the best scorer in the KHL. There are a lot of off ice red flags.
I prefer Demidov as a prospect and as a human being.

One of Celebrini, Helenius or Demidov should be available when MTL draft. If they are all gone I guess I would go for Catton then Lindstrom.

Big 24-25 for playoffs mix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ht42</b></div><div>That's exactly what they said.
- They want to add somes talents on the team and likely gonna trade away somes dmans for this talent.
- They don't want to buyout any contracts, but they never mentionned that they will not gonna want to trade away somes contracts.
- They likely gonna want to upgrade the team for maybe trying (without mentioning that's the ultimate goal) for a playoffs push.
- Gorton mentionned that if they see a free agent who can gonna have a great fit with Montreal, they will likely gonna show somes serious interrest.
And the last point that I want to mention is that Gorton said that players watched this press conference, so I belive that they doesn't wanted to said that they will gonna do this or that.....</div></div>
-They want to add talent through the draft. they have a LONG-term plan and they want to stick it. Stamkos is not a part of their plan. He might re-sign in TB and will not help MTL 3-4 years from now.
- Wasting money in a buyout and wasting assets in a dump is basically the same thing.
-They specifically said that they don’t want to rush for the playoffs. They want to see personal and team improvements next year. If the improvements is enough to get them in the playoffs it would be a bonus.
-They are no going to shut the door completely to UFAs. But thy already have a lot of nhl players under contract. They want to see improvements from those players. Some to be the future core and some to sell at next TDL or next offseason. It is a patient management group. They traded Petry because he asked and they traded Hoffman because he didn’t bring much on the ice and as a teamate. Anderson and Dvorak are bringing things on the ice and are good teamates. They will be patient with them.
HuGo always been as transparent as they could be. You are interpreting a lot of things that they didn’t said to validate your point.

Did you watch Hughes and Gorton’s presser? That’s basically the opposite of what they want to do.
That Anderson trade is so awful for MTL.
Stamkos will get more $ if he hit the UFA market.
Monahan might ask for more $ for a 2 year contract.
Not a lot of money to sign Guhle and Slaf.
Stop with dumping players. It is as silly as buying out a player this offseason. MTL have money and are not pushing for playoffs.

Hughes just said that he won’t buyout a player in the offseason. I think it is the same for dumping a player. Some fans are impatient and reactionnary. As you said, because we have assets some want to give those assets away for short-term sucess. There is a plan and the management group are pretty clear with it.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Habs_22_14_20</b></div><div>You are entitled to your opinion, but after watching him a lot I don't see him as a game changer. He will be a great 2nd line forward, bringing secondary scoring, great defensively. I don't understand the comparison with Leonard, Leonard is a physical talented power forward while Helenius is an extremely smart hockey player
</div></div>
If you didn’t saw his physical game, you didn’t watched him play. He is running over adults bigger than him. He’s got a pest side to his game. He is an excellent forechecker. That’s why I compare him to Leonard. It is really difficult to be a good forechecker on a big ice. They are rare the prospect that value a such non-sexy part of the game like forechecking.
What is a game changer for you? Somebody who is stickhandling and scoring highlight goals against kids? When you watch a player, you need to project what he could. Fans tend to project that flashy players in CHL will do the same thing in the NHL. It is not the case for most. With his IQ, his compete and his offensive abilities, Helenius will be an excellent 2C or a fringe 1C. He could have a similar impact as Suzuki longterm (Offensively, there are similarities).

MTL isn’t looking for size. They said it when they drafted Slaf. He is a piece in the puzzle. Drafting Slaf and trading for Dach allows them to pick the player they want, not the player slighlty taller.

Helenius has been so underated. He was as productive as or more productive than the big CHL guys in the U17s and U18s with worst teamates. He’s also having a much better overall game than Catton for example. Had Reinbacher 4th last year. I’ve got Helenius 2nd this year, neck and neck with Demidov. He’s not the fans choice, but I feel he could be the management choice. He is similar to Leonard (that MTL liked a lot) but with more IQ, better vision andslighlty worst shot.

DRAFT IGINLA PLUS TRADE UP FOR DICKINSON
Hughes specifically said that they could trade their 1st pick if the BPA on their list is a LD. Why trading up for LD :P
If MTL get better each year, it is possible that they finish as the 8th worst team in 2025 and the 10th worst team in 2026. Basically, you could end up trading McKenna to draft a LD that you don't need.

There is no need and no reason to buy out Dvorak. You will not be able to sign Guhle and Slaf next offseason. MTL is starting to get rid of bad contracts. They don't want to sign new contracts that could age badly.
