<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MMXD</b></div><div>Interesting but cant see lowry waiving</div></div>
Why not? He'd have the chance to win multiple Cups with McDavid and Draisaitl and he wouldn't need to score much as the shut down 3C with the Oilers since Edmonton can outscore pretty much every other team with McDavid and Draisaitl and any forwards that end up playing with those two.
As I understand it, since McDavid started treating the NHL like his own personal video game with him on cheat mode, other players have been happy to go to Edmonton whereas the Jets are one of the teams that have the hardest time with NTC restrictions in contracts.
For this reason, I think Lowry jumps at the chance to move to the Oilers if he's presented with that option since everyone seems to the think the Jets are at best a playoff bubble team that's teetering on the brink of a rebuild.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>So you think size is the be all end all of the NHL? Good grief</div></div>
If your team isn't as talented as the Lightning or the Avs, then yes, size matters in the playoffs.
Little guys that rack up points in the regular season typically struggle in the playoffs since defencemen are allowed to impede around the goal area far more than what's allowed in the regular season and size / force tends to be more effective in the playoffs as more of the goals come from crashing the net and net front traffic.
We've got Ehlers on the Jets and he's one of my favorite players, but he's targeted in the playoffs with all sorts of physical abuse and he's much less effective in terms of generating points when it's more of an "anything goes" approach to reffing games.
I didn't say I liked it, just that all things being equal, if two players are of equal talent and equally competitive, the bigger player tends to have more success in the playoffs.
Look at Corey Perry for example (who, by the way, I can't stand) who's 6' 3" and 213 lbs. The guy can barely skate at this point in his career and yet he puts up points in the playoffs by crashing the net.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeoZei</b></div><div>There would have to be more in either a cap dump from Edmonton or some picks because puljujarvi had more points in less games last year and will likely do better this year again.</div></div>
Lowry is a big shut down centre and the kind of player that tends to thrive in the playoffs.
Puljujärvi is a winger with potential but he can't seem to stick on a line with top talent which is a problem since he obviously wants to be a top 6 winger.
Aslo, reports were that trade offers were really underwhelming for Puljujärvi earlier this summer.
Oilers are in "win now" mode, so that's why I suggested Adam Lowry because supposedly there's a lot of GMs around the NHL that think he's terrific.
Like I said, I'd be interested to learn if the Oilers would do that trade as I don't know how they'd perceive Lowry's value in regards to how much he'd help them accomplish a deep playoff run.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>GeoZei</b></div><div>I could be wrong but with how long Holland has held out on Puljujarvi already I am guessing that wouldn’t do it.</div></div>
It would be interesting to see if the Oilers would do a Puljujärvi trade for Adam Lowry. $3,250,000 AAV for the next 4 seasons with Lowry, so the cap hit is close to Puljujärvi's $3,000,000 cap hit for this season and then Jesse probably costs more than Lowry after after this season on his next contract.

Milano And Aston-Reese
If the Jets trade Dillon, I think the plan would be to acquire a middle 6 forward signed to a similar cap hit ($3,900,000 AAV).
Also, as I understand it, Milano's pretty weak defensively which is quite worrisome if he's playing with Scheifele and Ehlers.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>That's what a fair deal looks like. I already explained that the Canucks are not at a loss of leverage in such a trade scenario</div></div>
I could see the Jets sweetening the deal by ading Vesalainen because I don't think Vesalainen or the Jets see a match between the player and the organization.
However, seriously, the Jets wouldn't add anything beyond a Vesalainen or maybe a Gawanke level prospect in addition to Dillon in a trade to get Garland.
That said, probably part of the reason we're disagreeing so strongly is because I perceive a top 2 centre as being a much greater positional need than winger for the Jets.
If Garland was a centre, then I'd be significantly more interested if I were making those decisions for the Jets to add on to the Dillon trade to get a skilled centre, even though he's significantly smaller than what's ideal.
I wish it wasn't the case, but bigger players tend to be more impactful in the playoffs when the refs mostly put their whistles away.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Knuckl3s</b></div><div>Garland >>> Dillon, they're not even close to the same caliber of player</div></div>
Top 4 defencemen are more valuable than 2nd line wingers all things being equal.
Also, Garland is a tiny winger and Dillon is big defenceman that actually plays big.
Sorry, but GMs tend to value big and reliable top 4 defencemen a lot more than they value little 2nd line wingers, plus Dillon is great value at over a million less AAV than Garland.
Again, little winger Bjorkstrand scored 28 goals and added 29 assists last season and he was traded for 3rd and 4th round picks.
It doesn't matter how desperate or not desperate the Canucks are, the market has been established for Garland type players with the Bjorkstrand trade.
The Canucks don't have to like it and they certainly don't have to trade him if they don't like the return, but I think you're likely overvaluing Garland a little verus how NHL GMs would perceive his value (again, see Bjorkstrand for the value established by NHL GMs for that sort of player).

Seems to me that a middle 6 forward for a top 4 defenceman is a fair trade, especially keeping in mind the Canucks save $1,050,000 AAV in cap space, but we should probably just agree to disagree.
It's not like Chevy makes any trades anyways, so we likely won't see another trade between the Canucks and Jets for at least three more seasons since that's the length of the contract extension he just signed to continue on as the Jets' GM.

The Jets won't want Poolman back and Pearson has a modifies NTC which is a 7 team no trade list, so it's pretty likely that the Jets are on it.
I could see the Jets trading Dillon for Garland though.

Dillon is a top 4 defenceman. I countered the DeMelo trade that you obviously don't like with the Dillon suggestion AND I took Burroughs out of the deal.
Also, I like Garland, but to counter your argument about his value, a similar player in Bjorkstrand (27 years old so a year older, also signed for 4 more seasons at $5.4 million AAV but with better production as he notched 28 goals and 29 assists last season compared to Garland's 19 goals and 33 assists) was just traded for a 3rd round and a 4th round draft pick.

Barzal has only surpassed a point/game in a season once so far in his career and that was 5 seasons ago.
Scheifele has been at or above a point/game every season for the past 6 seasons.
Also, Scheifele's and Wheeler's contracts both run out in two seasons, so the Islanders would have ample cap space to extend Scheifele when Wheeler's $8,250,000 comes off the books.

Does Dallas Match
IMO, the Jets would be better served to sign Kadri to a 2 year / $7,500,000 AAV contract because Kadri is a centre and the Dubois and Scheifele noise is a little concerning, so nice to add an impact centre for the 2 year window before Hellebuyck becomes a UFA.
Also, I agree that Dallas would match and the Jets NEED all their 1st round draft picks as they're potentially in rebuild mode in 2 seasons or sooner (depending on what happens with Dubois).

The Jets don't have a lot of cap space.
Also, RD is where they lack depth and LD is where they have a bit of a surplus.
My counter to your DeMelo trade is LD Brenden Dillon (at $3,900,000 AAV instead of $3,000,000 AAV) for Garland and remove Burroughs from the trade. That would get the AAV changing teams a little closer and I don't think Burroughs adds any value from the Jets' perspective to the trade.

The lines are meant to be three balanced scoring lines. It doesn't matter what order there in if all three lines get close to the same 5v5 ice time.
The Jets window could be done in two seasons when Hellebuyck becomes a UFA and the team has the cap space after the trades to pay Kadri very well for two seasons (until Hellebuyck becomes a UFA and the Jets may need to rebuild).
This lineup is meant to get Dubois excited enough to sign long term as it shows a commitment to building a winner. However, he may need to be traded as soon as next summer if he can't be convinced to sign an extension, so at that point Kadri moves up to the 2C spot.
Therefore, I think 31 year old Kadri signed for $7.5 million AAV for 2 seasons would be a solid move as long as the cap space is available.

The Islanders need offense. Scheifele puts up more points than Barzal, Wheeler puts up more points than Bailey and Dillon is a better defenceman than Mayfield. Also, Islanders are more set at RD than LD, so that's another reason the D swap makes sense for them whereas the Jets are deeper at LD. Also, Scheifele is signed for 2 more seasons whereas Barzal's contract is up after this upcoming season and rumors are that he wants to play elsewhere where he can play with better wingers. Granted Scheifele is a UFA in 2 seasons, but the Islanders will be well positioned to sign him to an extension.
I hardly see how the Islanders get "nothing" out of the trade.
