Nylander
Value wise the Leafs lose the trade just considering what they get from NJ. Only one year of Palmeiri. But if you add in the fact that it allows Them to sign Petro then it can be a good deal for the Leafs. Nylander and Palmeiri are similar calibre players.

Nj passes. Not saying the value isn’t there. It definitely is. But Zacha can also play wing and Johnsson right now might be a slight offensive upgrade over Zacha. But Zacha is the kind of player you win with. No interest in Dermott. If I’m trading zacha it is in a package for a better defenseman.

3 years age difference. Trust me. I watch both play often. If Kerfoot was better leaf fans woulnt be proposing trades with him for zacha on a regular basis.

Severson and Palmieri trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>Leafs core is all under 26 except Tavares and arguably Muzzin.. they have at least 5-6 years of a window left. Pittsburgh's is down to 2-3 at most. Leafs are fine. Sign a free agent like Tanev or Demelo. Fits the teams needs better and doesn't cost the young assets that will be needed to help the cap situation. There's no interest in Severson if the price has the 15th pick or Sandin/Liljegren in it. Rather pay that price plus a little more for a guy like Parayko or Ekblad who are far and away better than Severson.</div></div>far and away better. And far and away wanting more value. Then you have to worry about signing Reilly in a couple years. You want Parayko it’ll be a severe overpayment. Nylander 15th and another decent asset.
And the window has absolutely nothing to do with the age of the core. It all has to do with the cap. And the leafs have screwed themselves by putting all their eggs up front.

Severson and Palmieri trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>If you're looking for a 1st rounder outta him, you might be lucky to get just the pick. Wouldn't get a prospect in there. Severson is not good enough in his own end to get both. Sandin and a 1st gets closer to Parayko than Severson. What you're forgetting is that Pittsburgh's desperate to win before their window closes. That's why they slightly overpaid for Kapanen. Toronto's window isn't as small as Pittsburgh so they don't have to overspend for a mediocre upgrade. There's plenty of UFA options out there that would be a better upgrade for what Toronto needs and wouldn't cost any assets to give up. Pietrangelo, Tanev, Demelo, Gudas, etc are all better fits and don't cost any ridiculous assets to get.</div></div>
I disagree. I think the Leafs window is closing and having the option to retain on Severson should get you more than what Kapanen got. I would say something along the lines of 15th and Liljegren.
And they are not going to cost you any assets because they are free agents. But I still think financially the leafs will struggle Signing those guys for fair contracts.
When people are saying that Not many teams Are going after defenceman because of the cap situation but yet a team like the leafs who have arguably the worst cap position in the league are going out for defenceman doesn’t that mean that other teams can possibly go after them.
There is already a report that Pittsburgh wants to sign Tanev.

Severson and Palmieri trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheOtherAuston</b></div><div>In a normal year I would 100% agree with that statement, but its nowhere near normal. Multiple competitive teams have already said they will have a lower internal cap and multiple small market teams simply won't be able to afford the cap.</div></div>
You might be right. But I’ll believe it when I see it. I know this is a different season but they also said it on the other seasons. It could also be a way for other teams to try to lower the value of certain UFA players

Have fun overrating your players homer.</div></div>Actually it was somebody else who Was judging Him based on being a negative player. Not me. And it’s not being a homer I’m comparing it to Kasperi Kapanen. When Kasperi Kapanen brought in the 15 pick and a decent prospect I think I have a pretty good argument when I say that Severson actually has more value than Kapanen. Do I think Severson can bring in the 15th and Sandin. Most likely not. But there’s an argument to be had that it isn’t far off which is exactly what I said

Literally every analyst says its the middle class that is going to be hit the hardest
I'd way rather have demelo at 3.5-3.75 over Severson even retained</div></div>
How many years is this been said now? Too many teams are too close to the cab and players are going to get what they want. But they still do Jake Gardiner just got with what he wanted last year. Everybody knew right away that he was overpaid by far as soon as he signed. With so much parity in the league and any Of the top 20 teams can be competitive there’s becoming more of a demand for players now

He barely gets a first a low level prospect he is more of a two seconds and a mid level prospect type return</div></div>
Of course there are lots of UFA options. But that is going to be a lot harder for the Leafs to sign guys who are going to get overpaid. Severson makes 4.25 and he can be retained. If he was on the market he would be getting $6 million. Virtually every player at the deadline is overpaid.
If you think severson isn’t good that’s fine. How well do you think his plus minus is going to be when he has spend pretty much his whole career on a rebuilding team up against top competition.
How was Morgan Reilly’s +/- when the leafs were rebuilding. Put Reilly in severson a position with ****ty offense like severson had and tell me how well his numbers are. Put severson with Matthews and Marner Tavares and Nylander and things change. There is more to it than plus minus.

Sandin and the 15th pick is closer to getting a much better d-man than Severson. Leafs gladly walk away.</div></div>of course I can laugh. We’ve had a successful team and I’ve seen my team win a few cups in my lifetime. We are rebuilding now. Toronto has been terrible and has barely had any success outside of a 6 team league. There’s a reason why there’s a huge fan base of Non leaf fans in the Toronto area

If the pick is a necessity, you're looking at a lower tier prospect cause it's a deep draft this year. Severson isn't worth 2 top prospects.</div></div>
You’re right they might laugh at us. And then we continue to laugh at the mediocre defence and over 50 years of not winning anything.Toronto’s biggest need is a right handed defenceman and they don’t have a lot of salary to go around. Not many other options. So they can take the chance or maybe move forward with below average defense.

Of course it is. Severson has quite a bit more value than Kapanen does. 15th and Liljegren is probably what it would take but fitzgerald will probably want Sandin.
