Tbh I would much rather sign Giroux and keep JP than EK and trading JP. If they trade JP they are only going to get the same player in return. I'm on the fence about him currently

After The Draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>uphere</b></div><div>I think Kuemper will cost more money and term.
While Minnesota, Detroit, and quite likely Chicago are no longer in the market for goaltenders, there are still a few teams on the hunt. With Fleury and Husso no longer available, Kuemper and Campbell are the last legitimate starters left among the UFAs. Dubas cleared cap space yesterday and he still has a few days to negotiate with Campbell before July 13 and the opening of free agency. I think $6M x 6 might be closer to reality, but I would not be surprised if it gets worse than that.</div></div>
Yeah I agree, I truly hope it doesn't get that bad, but jeez... A goalie with 57 NHL games gets $4.75M... That's crazy, inflation is high right now for goalies

I agree, although if they did settle and this was result of the trade it would be cheaper on the books then the $6M-$7M he would be asking for... Unless the Oilers could trade for less so then SJ avoids arbitration and the potential risk of paying Kane his entire $7M and not having him on the roster at all. Could be used as leverage for both teams. Although I would rather look at an agreement with Kane, SJ, and Oilers with 50% retention involved

You think that is an overpay for Kane at 50% retention for the next 3 years? If so, then I would probably take back the 2023 2nd round pick lol. Was trying to avoid any criticism over low payment

Knowing Holland he won't want to throw the young Holloway in right off the bat. Although I do know he will make the team. Also was thinking of adding a guy like Vinnie Hinostroza instead of Deslauriers, which would make more sense.

What do Oilers fans think of this trade
Personally I am not the biggest fan of Anderson or Allen. Anderson is too injury prone. If they were wanting him so bad, I would just sign Kane for a few more million and have a guy who is less injury prone and works well with McD. But for the purpose of the trade you suggested, I would say that's pretty accurate

If I am completely honest, I had this team saved before that trade went down. But yeah I agree with you on Kassian not really being needed at that point... Although one thing, Olivier only has 48 games of NHL experience.... But doesn't require much experience to be a grinder and fight lol. Play like 8-10 minutes a night. Thanks for pointing that out, totally forgot.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>JustanIdea</b></div><div>That's the big problem with this site. Is that there are very few trades where that people agree on because you love every player on you're favourite team and don't want to see them go unless it's for an offer that's to good to ignore which is the bias in a lot of posters as they want to get an outlandish offer rather than look at reality and see the value as it means one of there favourite players is going.</div></div>
Yes 100% agree. I try to stay positive for the most part. But there are always those people on here who just comment and say "EDM says no, he's with a 1st, not even close". Then proceed to have pointless arguments lol. Personally I would love to somehow see EDM sign Kane, trade for Brown, and trade for D Strome's rights and sign him. That would be an unreal forward group, like wow haha.

Solid take. I appreciate seeing you say that you along with other fans overvalue Brown at times. A lot of fans (including myself) overvalue players on favourite teams, and can't come to terms with a value more accurate lol.

As an Edmonton fan I don't really see a need for Austin Watson. If the Oilers want someone like that they could get Nick Deslauriers as a UFA for similar AAV and no trade needed. Although the retention on Brown's Salary is nice. Would be nice for Oil to just add in a pick instead of Savoie for some salary retention and Kassian's cap dump. Although I see what you are doing there with the players and proposals, and I don't think you're too far off. Good suggestion!

This happened with Brooks Orpik, Capitals and Avalanche. So did they harshen the rules after the fact or what? They were cleared of any wrongdoing... But I assume you know the answer to that.

I have based this off of a social media post by Jason Gregor. He said he wasn't able to find anything that said this isn't allowed or possible. As noted in the description of this team I don't think this trade would happen. This has happened before in recent years. And I have not taken a look at any of the ruling on this matter.

Ok, however two of those trades were at TDL and the JGP trade was right before the deadline... So their values were inflated due to the timing and the need for playoff bound teams to add to their teams. In regards to the Dvorak trade, I would say that is more of a solid comparison. Similar stats. CAR first round pick would almost be identical to the Oilers and the 2nd round ARI got is 2024. So no real value for a couple of years. I think I could agree on a 3rd round pick in 2022 with some conditions to make it a 2nd round if Brown re-signs or something. Thanks for providing those comparisons!

Hurry Up Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Quillanrocks</b></div><div>Seattle is not trading a pick for Tyson Barrie . . . none from this year's draft, anyway. I don't think Barrie would be of 2nd Round pick value to Seattle, either. (Curious what his value would be across the league knowing "what" he is and "what" Edmonton is up against.)
Anyhow, I'd wager that draft picks are more important to the Kraken franchise than any other in the league, currently. Plus, UFA period comes AFTER the draft. Kraken will take a stab at Klingberg, perhaps others, before even considering a trade for Tyson Barrie.</div></div>
I appreciate your kind and thorough response. I can see where you are coming from with the priority in picks and I can completely agree. I think Barrie could warrant a 2nd round pick elsewhere like PIT if Letang doesn't sign back. The only reason I picked a second from this years draft was that the draft class doesn't seem as deep compared to next years, so I was valuing it less than the 2023 pick. Although if EDM can't sign back Kulak for like $2.5M I would like to see them looking for a Barrie for Soucy trade or something.

What are you valuing him at? He has been in the league for like 7 years and has not had over 50 points. I like Brown and I like his game. He has more to him than getting points which is nice. I feel that a lot of the Sens fans are valuing his return too high and are thinking acquisition at the trade deadline. Obviously his value would be inflated at the TDL, but this is the off season. There is no way brown is worth a first round pick and a 2nd or even a 3rd.

I think you are undervaluing Broberg. In a trade involving a young player (who was a first round pick), you are trading for their potential, not for who they are now. That adds value and obviously more complexity. If I am the oilers I would rather trade a second round pick and a late round pick along with Kassian, for Brown (remove Gaudette)

I don't mind the team you made here at all, but I wouldn't do the Chychrun trade (I think the suggestion is light anyway). Broberg isn't going to be a great player in the future. Trade Foegs for a mid round pick and you still shed that cap and get something in exchange.

Apparently though, the Sharks might be getting a rookie GM, so maybe he makes a rookie mistake. On that note, gl to the new GM though who will probably have to extend Meier for 8x8 at the very least, or lose him to free agency because of his 10m QO. I doubt anyone would be willing to trade for him unless they are down to pay him 9m.</div></div>

Yeah good point. It would probably have to be a three team deal. Do like Tyler Benson and the third rounder to Sharks and first rounder to Anaheim Ducks or Arizona or something... Unless Sharks want to keep the first, they would have to send something else to the team eating the cap. Lol McDavid or Drai as the sweetener haha

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>krakowitz</b></div><div>These are definitely the type of moves I think the Oilers need to make. I wonder if they'd rather prioritize a goaltending solution over trading for Chychrun, since it's assumed Nurse will be much better if he isn't playing through the injury. They definitely need both but I think Bouchard will take on more minutes and a goalie would be a better investment. But this still moves the needle for them a lot</div></div>
Personally as an Oilers fan I would not go for the Chychrun trade. I used to want Chycrun a lot, but to give up that many futures is not a great idea. I would rather sign Kulak or someone else in his place.
