<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zbaddest</b></div><div><i>Marleau is probably having a bad season because he is playing with Couture and not Michalek, he would play better with a veteran like him in Michalek, imagine, Michalek - Thornton - Marleau, amazing top line.

Woooah, how do you compare Stone and Couture's defensive abilities, not even close. Stone lead the league in takeaways, was a +21, and is a rookie player, going to pick up his Calder Trophy tomorrow from the presenter Daniel Alfredsson. Couture is at his prime, Stone still has miles until he reaches his prime. And obviously most people would say Couture is better now, but that's because barely anyone knows Stone. After another year, ask the same question, and it would seem like your comparing Crosby (Stone) to Malhotra (Couture). In a few years, Stone will have piled Selke trophies, Heart trophies, and the Ted Lindsay award, while Couture has nothing. Stone is going to be a legend, Couture has shown he won't be a legend. Couture is a good top centreman, but Stone is too good of a right winger to be worse than him. And Michalek was still good in Ottawa. I don't know who you are trying to convince, your name is Joe Thornton! That OTT - SJS trade works perfectly.</i></div></div>

Rofl, no son. Marleau was playing horrible no matter who he was with this season, and every shark fan saw him dragging Couture down. He was completely unmotivated this year. Like the year he got Ron Wilson fired.

Michalek has truly lost a step and you are delusional to think he is still a superstar. This whole armchairGM sens team is delusional truthfully.

Check Advanced stats. Couture was matched against opposing teams top lines and his linemate was -17, while he was far better.
Takeaways. ROFL. Its official! Toews only had 45 takeaways. 70th in the league. The reigning Selke winner must be worse than sheltered Stone.

Chiasson is really bad, and he has no good strong character, that is why he DOES NOT fit with the team.

For Couture, think Stone + as a starting point

We certainly are not taking the cap dumps of Legwand/Greening.</i></div></div>

Stone would get more than Couture, so saying that a starting point would be stone +, is simply impossible. Maybe putting both Greening and Legwand is a little to far, so with the removal of one or the other, the trade would be even more acceptable, but Ottawa would also probably remove the First Round Pick. Besides, Michalek had better numbers than Couture when he was with San Jose, and only a few years ago. Michalek has reached the 35 goals once, and had many 30 goal seasons, and multiple 60 point season, including one which he had 66 points, an amount Couture has never reached. So really, Michalek alone should get you more than Couture considering he's been better, he's cheaper, and he would have amazing points getting passes from Joe Thornton. Ottawa is actually giving up much more than San José is in this trade. Considering Anderson is one of the best current goaltenders, Michalek is an All Star, there are 1st and 2nd Round picks in the deal, and Legwand was once amazing, and he can still support a team with a lot of cap space and be effective in penalty killing, plus, he only has one year left on his contract. If Ottawa offered this deal to San José, they would definitely take it.</i></div></div>

ROFL. Horsecrap. Couture is a 26 year old shutdown center who has gotten better every season. He plays against opposing teams top lines and scored <strong> 67 points</strong> despite his linemate Marleau having one of his worst years in recent memory and his RW being a revolving door of Wingels, Nieto and Tyler Kennedy.

Thornton and Couture do not and never have played on the same line, and usually not even on the same PP unit. Michalek and Thornton wee joined at the hip when THornton was a Hart candidate

Couture &gt; Stone in value and in pedigree. Offensively, Stone is close. Defensively not close. Stone is like 7/10th's Couture.

Go on any forum on the internet and ask "Couture vs Stone" and you are going to get 20 people voting Couture for every one voting Stone.

Comparing Michalek's numbers to Couture's when they were both in San Jose is ridiculous. Scoring has dropped considerably since then.

Who in gods name are you trying to convince here? Yourself? roFL

No prob. Stafford had a bounceback with the jets no doubt. But Frolik is an all purpose forward. Plays the PK, PP and 5 on 5 and is very good defensively, playing on that jets shutdown line.

I see him as a great RW for Marleau/Couture as they tend to get the shutdown assignments and he is 2 years younger. For the record, Marleau is not waiving. you could tell who was eager to see Tmac go from who showed up supporting the new coach at the presser. Marleau/Wingels/Stalock. Stalock was in a bind. He could get a shutout and still get benched the next game. Happened twice last season. Marleau was less motivated than ever. Not sure about Wingels.

Hertl/Tierney/ Wingels or Nieto was so effective in the last 15 games of the season that I would love to see more of it. You may want to recall Tierney lol. Tierney was scoring at a PPG clip in the final 12 games and him and Hertl found genuine chemistry. He is a lock to make the team.

but Oduya is 33 years old, and merely average and certainly not an offensive force. We have enough defense first Dmen. In fact, all of them but Burns are not a threat. We need to balance the threat of a point shot on our blueline across pairings. As it is, teams can cheat to cover our forwards due to lack of a threat from the point when Burns is on the bench. Irwin is not the answer either. All he has in an NHL caliber shot. His skating and gap control are awful.

if Spurgeon is being shopped, Sharks should look into it. But also look into Sekera and Green. Green just put up 45 points from the 3rd pairing with reduced PP time. Say what you ill about him, but Burns has been just as unhealthy over the years.

Vlasic/Burns
Dillon/Braun
Mueller/???????

Edit: I just realized. you forgot to resign RFA Dillon. 4x the player Irwin is, so you may want to edit this lol.

Just stay away from Franson lol. The guy wants the moon and sucks.

As for forward depth. We have some promising prospects in the system. We just signed Donskoi, who was playing great in his league and was a PPG player at the WC. look him up on youtube. Kid has moves, top 6 potential and could make the team right out of camp, barring severe problems getting used to north american rinks.

Goldobin is a guy I think needs another year in the AHL, despite many hoping he makes the team. He is a top 6 or bust, as he lacks in aspects of the game other than offense and looks like a stickfigure being pushed around by AHL men. Guys like Chartier and Lebanc will challenge for a spot too.

For once we have great forward depth in our system, despite lack of bluechips.
