I'm not sure on that. I think he gets 9 games to begin the year, as Cole is projected to be on the IR to start the season, but I think they let him marinate in the WHL. I'd say it's 50/50 right now, but the Avs are known to be patient with their D. Cale Makar played two years of college before he played for the Avs.

I would hate to see Ristolainen traded but this is a reasonable return, a roster player, prospect and a pick. Toffoli seems to have good season then a "why is he still playing" season, but he is young same age as Skinner, signed to a decent contract and has a decent resume. Anderson-Dolan is a "B" prospect who can put up the points in the Juniors. The 2nd could be 32nd over all the way the season for the Kings is progressing. Let's presume STL continues to move up in the standings and finishes 7th over all, then let's combine this trade with the Montour trade. The difference between the 26th over all and 32nd over all is about a 3rd round pick. So that would mean the Sabres traded Ristolainen, Guhle and 3rd for Montour, Toffoli and Anderson-Dolan. Ristolainen > Montour, Guhle << Toffoli, 3rd <<< Anderson-Dolan. Who would not make this deal? After watching Montour for a few games, IDK why Murray made that trade, he is as good as everything I read about him.

Usually Bruins overpay for a rental at the deadline so if they can get a lot of value while retaining. it would be quite a haul for Buffalo

Dont think he is going to be part of the Avs long term plans and if they can extend a much better Erik Karlsson, thats a huge upgrade on the blue line without sacrificing the offense that comes from Barrie.

Also you take the 5.5m for Barrie and put that towards Karlssons new contract. Makes sense long term

Sujet: Need O'Reilly Gone

I think O'Reilly is an ideal 3C for the Caps to keep up with Brassard. They don't have any cap space, though, to even keep their own guys, so the return package has to cost more in AAV (but can be shorter term). Maybe Burakovsky (RFA after one year at 3M), Orpik (UFA/retired after one year at 5.5M), , and Grubauer (RFA this summer)? Burakovsky played 2C a couple years ago with the Caps and did alright. Could be a fun, quick offensively talented 3C. Grubauer has better spct and gaa than Holtby most of the last few years. Can play him or flip his rights for picks and prospects, while he's hot.

I debated just giving Vanek a one year deal. Does that negate the "wasted money" argument with minimizing the length?</div></div>

Please check out Vanek's stats for last year. He played only 14 min/gm and scored 48 pts. Stretch your imagination and put Vanek with his best friend Pominville (who also only played 14 min/gm) scored 47 pts. 95 pts is more than Reinhart and Okposo had last year and that was done playing 3rd line minutes.

Sujet: Phaneuf Gone. Savvy Vet Scoring Added.

I like your thoughts behind the Phaneuf & Brown trade. It makes sense for Ottawa and LA. The NHL needs to figure our a way to fix contracts because there are way too many out there that are brutal. Maybe a 2 per team free buyout where you pay the player the rest of his money but he no longer counts on the CAP? There are just way too many bad contracts killing teams. I guess this sounds more like a bailout right? Anyhow, I like everything you did, but one thing here just wont happen. Mike "Underwood" Fisher is not going back to Ottawa. He is Nashville or retiring and letting his wife keep footing the bill.
