I read yesterday that term was the stickling point which prompted the trade. I don’t know just what you are saying here, but $6M only be enough.

My thinking is Lehner wants to be paid like the elite net minders. I said earlier his ball park is $9M. You have him Vegas. Now will you keep him?

With Vasilevskiy’s cool $6 million bump, no matter how you slice it, the Lightning will be in a world of hurt. Somebody is going to be moved of the roster.

Next Year 2 Big Deals
I read the cap for next year ( a conservative estimate will be $82.5 M) I am here to break it to all Leaf fans. There is no money available for big ticket items. There is always the hope the cap can be increase another $10+ M, so Toronto can pay another forward 7 figures.
Thank God there is only one NHL franchise in Leafdom, cause if there were another, the original would actual have to do it right to keep their ravenous fans in the building. When was the last time Toronto? 1967. How many years is that? My head is starting to hurt counting too high.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja</b></div><div>And I am saying that they would have been better off getting better futures for Trocheck and paying pennies on the dollar for depth. I think it was just a lousy return for a 2C who's AAV is below market rate for 2 years. I think we're simply talking past each other. I am not disagreeing with you that the Panthers can still compete and added forward depth they needed; I am looking at the Trocheck trade in a vacuum and saying it's a lousy return. I think they would have been better off asking for only a first and Wallmark (which looking at the Canes depth at center I think they would have folded and accepted that deal) and found other ways to add cheap depth players. I think these two prospects do not really push the needle. But maybe I am wrong and these kids will play well for the Panthers.</div></div>
That is a lousy return, but something doesn’t sit right with me. That trade feels like Carolina walking off the used car lot (sorry ... ah, previously-owned) feeling victorious, while the owner desperately want to rid himself of a lemon. For a guy who had 75 points two seasons ago, Trochek was falling down a hill. It is a gamble Carolina can take.

Better yet. That photo of Treliving & Bowman together on a fishing trip in a decorative gold frame displayed on the mantel in his office is quickly seize and forcibly thrown
onto the floor.
From a corridor, an employee notices Treliving feverishly jumping up and down. He stops. Bends down, and carefully removes the photo from the debris of shattered glass and twisted metal. He reaches into his pocket. And pulls out a lighter. And sets the photo ablaze, j/k

Fire Stan Fixing this mess in the offseason
This “mess” continues to be a “mess” with your moves. You moved to starters on defence the belief your prospects are ready to play in the NHL.
*** ALL HAWK FANS *** I WILL SAY THIS ONE LAST TIME. IT IS A MISTAKE TO EVEN THINK ABOUT THE IDEA OF MOVING MURPHY.
Despite his extraordinary athleticism, Duncan Keith can not be expected to continue to carry the load. He will be 37 next year. Murphy makes this team better defensively. Remove him, and the horror show get worst. The only time I see him moved would be to upgrade for a better defenceman.
I don’t like any of these trades.

Deadline Reactions
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NickC1988</b></div><div>This was an embarrassing deadline. Getting a 2nd for Lehner is a joke. He's a top 10 G in the league, are we seriously getting a 2nd for him? Getting a 3rd for Gustafsson is a slap in the face after having a career season.</div></div>
My thinking to the Lehner trade as it seems evident he wasn’t signed to an extension in Vegas, is that he wants to be available July 1st ( what the market will bare). Any team in the league is not going offer their 1st and not get more than this remaining season back.
Let’s examine the recent 1st’s given up at this trade deadline.
#1 PENGUINS for Zucker. Zucker is with the Pens for 3 more seasons.
#2 LIGHTNING for Coleman. Coleman is with Tampa next season.
#3 BRUINS for for Kase. Kase is 24 (lots of upside), and has another year with the Bruins
#4 Islanders for Pageau. And for New York to give up the 1st Pageau agreed to an extension. 6 yrs.
#5 LIGHTNING for Goodrow (this trade is suspicious to me. Tampa gave up too much) Goodrow will be with the club next season.
#6 CANES for Skjei. Skjei will be with the Canes for 4 more seasons.
I aptly suggest there was no 1st available for the Hawks to have.
Gustafsson’s value deteriorated since October. The Blackhawks power play is why they aren’t in the playoff race. Gustafsson being the quarterback on the point has to shunt some of the clubs failure. Maybe he will flourish in Calgary. It remains to be seen. But I couldn’t see any team offering any pick higher than a third. This year he did not play well and the market bared it.

Nobody wants Johnson. It would take the Penguins a sweeter like a pick or a prospect for a team to agree to take Johnson. The Penguins need an asset coming back. Better to use a pick or prospect (both) and add to the roster and challenge to the cup.

What don’t you like about the trades, and what would you have done differently. I like that the Penguins have scoring depth. Three lines that can score.

The opportunity for Crosby & co. to win it is narrowing. This trade is about “the now” and not to foresee its impact in the future. It is a gutsy play by GM Rutherford ... all chips in! Can’t criticize somebody who wants to win. This is what it is all about.

Tavares was a mistake
I never thought signing Tavares was a wise choice utilizing the Leafs’ cap. The Leafs’ weakness at the time (still is) was their defensive play. Acquiring a stud on defence with that cap spent on Tavares would have been more aptly spent.
When Tavares signed with the Leafs were immediately the favourite to win the Cup. My thinking was only, if Tavares plays defence (the position).
I am not beating up Tavares as a player. He is great play. I like him. However he was not what Toronto needed to get better. The team was already loaded on offence.

The Jets (any team) would need to be completely stupid to make that trade. Big Buff has been an enigma this season. If he is fit to play, and still desires playing, then I think he will remain a Jet. He was granted personal leave, and Jets obliged him. He is still under contract which tells me he is still apart the Jets future. Perhaps this will get settled in the off season, and I think it won’t take a trade and surrendering draft picks to get it done. Buff and the Jets will amiably part and he will retire or he will be a training camp.

I will be surprised if Holland would move Bouchard to add a winger like Rakell. I have said that Rakell would be a great addition to the Oiler line up, but imo, Bouchard is perceive more valuable. At this point of his career, he must be deemed untouchable.
