Updated 1st round rankings
I don't see the Capitals taking Connelly at all. I could see him sliding into late first round or second round because of his character concerns. Teams don't want to waste a pick, get called out by fans, or upset players. Caps have a Jewish player in their system, so there would be obvious friction

Can Catton fall to the Caps
I doubt it. Things seem to indicate he'd be 8-12. I'm looking at guys like Greentree, MBN, Chernyshov.

Post Lottery With Descriptions
Don't know with the character concerns of Connelly, Caps stay away from those guys and especially after the Kuzy drama, I can see them wanting squeaky clean guys. The more I'm listening to prospect stuff, the more I would really like the Caps to get Greentree or Brandsegg-Nygård

I Wish Nylander Didnt Extend
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>brady_t12</b></div><div>Nylander is definitely the type of guy the caps need, but maybe they can make a move for Marner or Perfetti and sign another player or 2 in free agency to really change the look of the team. If Oshie LTIRetires and/or Kuemper gets shipped out, there’s a TON of cap space to go around and you know MacLellan is gonna use it.</div></div>
He would've been the perfect guy to get a ton of goals on a goal starved team while also passing some biscuits to Ovi. Marner and other guys on expiring deals are interesting because idk what our plans are post-Ovi. Would we tank and rebuild with some more top 10 picks? Or since we have Carbs and some of those young players will be older, do we keep going? That's something I've thought about when considering those trades. I don't have those same concerns with RFAs like Perfetti which we could have th possibility of two contracts while they're RFAs.
That extra cap space though to get some UFAs on short term deals or other unexpected trades will be veryyyy intriguing

Fehervary is a very good 2nd pairing defenseman. Conversely, it's not worth trading Fehervary to move up 7 spots

Leafs
This isn't bad at all. Like the comment above, I'd probably throw in just a guy or a pick more (not a top prospect or even a late pick) since we have the burden of trying to re-sign him after this 1 year. Unless it's a sign and trade, at which point I take that at face value

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blueman96</b></div><div>What would you like to see MacLellan do? Genuinely asking :)</div></div>
Totally fine! I just would like MacLellan to acquire a top 6 winger or two. That's my biggest thing, we can't run it back with this offense and just hope we get a bit more out of a few guys. Didn't mean to be condescending, it's just that if BMac didn't do any substantive changes, I think I might finally start to question his decisions more

Offseason
I feel the same about Perfetti. Young guy, taken 10th overall in his draft class so if you're WPG, you want to recoup similar value. But like you mentioned, he's fallen out of favor, will get a decent raise from his ELC

Best Case Scenario
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NARC311</b></div><div>I think you could almost cut the AAV on that Beck contract in half and he’d accept. Maybe give him 1.25M
Also I would imagine Philly would have re-signed Walker if the contract was that team friendly. I think the rumor was he wanted more term than they were comfortable with.
Big fan of the Perfetti & Duchene ideas</div></div>
Beck shouldn't make more than $1million. He's good, but he played one season. I would really like Perfetti, but Iorio is a guy I would keep on the back end. We need to keep our young guys, and he's our best defensive prospect.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>draft_em_sign_em_trade_em</b></div><div>The team needs to learn puck control and offensive zone pressure with crisp clean passing and cycling and creativity.
The Caps suck in all that.
Ovie was used to playing with better players in those departments.</div></div>
Exactly my point. Ovechkin is still looked to as “the guy” for our offense. It’s unfair to him as a 38yo who’s played nearly 1600 career games (regular + postseason). He can put the puck in with an elite shot and may need to get some greasier goals closer to the crease. But he really needs a better supporting cast, for both the goal chase and staying competitive. Even back then, outside of Backstrom, Oshie, Carlson, Holtby, Semin and Green from 2008-2012, there was never the depth. He’s carried us for so long, and it’s a fast, young man’s league.

He was objectively bad this series. He also STILL led our team in goals this year. The only 30 goal scorer. As a 38 year old. We just need to cushion him with talent more rather than relying on him to carry

Very fair, the LTIR was just me doing that for purposes of not knowing. And oops, didn’t realize the bonuses weren’t already factored in. Let me edit that in and move Oshie to IR

Yeah wasn’t sure what his status was. Everyone kept saying how Carolina doesn’t like rentals so it made me believe they would like to re-sign
$10mil kinda crazy, I was expecting 9.5mil. 8mil is the starting price for sure

Post TDL thoughts and beyond
I second everything you’re saying and feeling. I seriously wonder if Oshie LTIRetires too, but he’s a competitor and there hasn’t been a truly devastating injury for him compared to Backstrom’s hip resurfacing surgery.
The UFA market sucks so if we look at internal solutions, we’re going to be a very young and inexperienced team next year. There’s a chance we flip some of those picks for guys like Sandin: young, 1st or 2nd round talent that isn’t getting a shot because of log jams on contending teams. Guys like Broberg and Nick Robertson come to mind. Now, the RFA class is really good. Is there potential for an offer sheet against a contending team with limited cap space even with the rising cap? Would be an interesting avenue.

Janmark and Brown are on expiring contracts and obviously won't be brought back. We got some other guys here that will likely/possibly be traded that I didn't include here (Pacioretty, NAK, Edmundson, Lindgren). Defense is pretty jammed, so we don't have to be committed to Ceci or Alexeyev. I wouldn't be too worried about the contract limit
