This draft is going to be one for the ages. Incredibly excited for it, especially as a sens fan. First time in a while there's actually reason to get excited about being terrible, now that we don't have the pick from the Duchene trade looming overhead like the last couple of seasons. We've got our pick, and likely the best odds in the lottery, and 4 other picks in the first round including another 1st.
The draft may be in MTL, but it's Ottawa's draft all the way

I think Domi is going to the wing and KK is going to be our 2nd center playing with Domi and Drouin and making around 50 pts.

3rd line, expect ~40 points if Lehkonen & Armia have more finish. Maybe PP time, but Danault Lehky Byron Armia Thompson are the PK guys

To me those guys are basically neck and neck, but I favorite Holtz. He's younger and he scores like crazy. Both of them are insanely talented. Best Swedish prospects since Pettersson.
I'd love to see a team be bold enough to trade so they can get both. Such a dynamic tag team. Centering that line would be a slam dunk.

Habs
The value is there.
At the moment however the team is overflowing with players. Thompson is currently slated to be at best the 13th forward which suits everyone. The young players are pushing and there likely won't be enough room for both Poehling and Suzuki (maybe even both) come October.
In short I don't think that the Habs are eager to give up assets for a guy who would assuredly be battling for a spot on the 4th line with all the depth they currently possess.

Lets buy out Alzner now

Quoting: MGK

Did you check the buyout calculator? He's essentially buyout proof. Even if you buried him in the minors the next 2 seasons it's still better than buying him out this year or next. (not that you could buy him out this year since the window has closed)
Only thing you can do is trade him for another bad contract.

I wouldn't say buyout proof. If Alzner stays healthy and there's no way of actually trading him without giving a 1st + or whatever, buying him out next season or in 2021 is still a possibility that's digestible.
MTLs biggest contract management year in recent history will be 2021. It's the year of the Seattle expansion draft + major contract renewals will be due to A LOT of roster players. (Gallagher, Danault, Kotkaniemi, Poehling, Tatar, Petry, Lehkonen, Armia, and a few more.)
So the year you want to save the most cap from Alzner's contract has to be in 2021. (next year with only Domi, Mete, and Juulsen to worry about, Habs could still afford Alzner at a sizable cap hit.)
Here are the options imo with dealing with Alzner:
Keeping Alzner in the minors for the rest of his deal (until 2022) still has MTL absorbing $3.55mil in salary cap per year, saving them roughly $1mil in cap space a season.
Buying Alzner out next season (2020) would give a cap savings of $2.7mil in the 2021 season. the only negative of doing this is the $4mil cap hit next season, but that's almost the same as the $3.55mil cap hit MTL would already have for just keeping him in the minors. other than that, it would cost MTL about 800k for 2 more seasons after 2021, but if the cap is tight at that point, it would only cost MTL from keeping a depth player at most, so no biggie.
Buying Alzner out in 2021 would give a cap savings in 2021 of about $2.3mil, with a cap hit of $1.2mil the following year, but that's it after 2022.
So if Habs are looking for the most cap flexibility in 2021, buying him out next season makes the most sense. but a buyout in 2021 is still doable.

There is no big fish to chase on the free agent market anymore, so no need to buyout him. In two years, when KK, Poehling, Gally and Danault become FA, then we might need cap space and so we'll decide by then.

I agree. We have Folin as our 4th RD already. Also, all 7 Canadians teams were on Shattenkirk no trade list : I doubt he signs for a Canadian team (he's American + to avoid taxes)

Mikael Granlund

Quoting: Frankyhabs

I think your evaluation is wrong here. Grandlund is a clear top 6 forward in his prime. Nashville will give him a second chance for sure with maybe Duchenne. Fabbro will play on the second pair with Ehkolm they dont need a 3rd pair guy. (habs fan here) Maybe a Nashville fan could give us his thought but in my modest opinion Nashville easily declines.

I completely agree that Granlund is a legit top-6 forward in the NHL, and it's definitely not a bad idea to give him a second chance with Duchene. However, I'm a firm believer that things just don't work out for players and teams sometimes. No rhyme or reason, it just happens. Seems like Granlund looked out of place in Nashville and this gives them a way to bring in value for a guy like that while also bringing in a player that can help them out. Hickey obviously doesn't HAVE to play with Fabbro. Their defense can be:
Josi-Ellis
Ekholm-Fabbro
Hickey-Santini

i think we will have a season close to last year , and we will finish 8-9 or 10 . so little chance of play off but not that much . and i hope at the TDL we trade Petry and Tatar not because i don't like them but because we can have a good return for them and i think the young guy can take their spot by the end of the season.

Maybe, but only if the habs are for sure not going to make the playoffs, and Brook looks like he’s ready to make the jump. McDonagh could be another good comparable, but the JT Miller inclusion muddies the trade.

No way!!! I'll never trade Suzuki for a player like Kreider. He is too old. Also, I'm not sure about Ryan Lindgren.
I would prefer a trade like this one : 2nd round pick + Armia for Kreider

why does everyone love Kreider so much? He isn't young anymore and has a career high 53pts. Never scored 30 goals.

This is the correct answer. I think Makar is the #1 prospect in the entire league. He’s gonna be an absolute superstar. I saw him play when UMass came to Ohio State, he’s on another level than anyone else

Reasons for Makar over Fox:
Makar is 1 draft year younger
Makar a captain at 19 for a NCAA finalist team
Hobey Baker winner over Fox
Top level Hockey IQ, top level skater (easily the best skater in the NCAA this year)
Will play top 4 minutes immediately. Fox isn't guaranteed a NHL spot (though, he should), but will probably play #5 minutes to start.
To me, Fox is #6 on that list. He's probably a #4 guy, PP guy (though maybe more 2nd pair PP guy). His ceiling is a #3 guy. Makar has top 10 in the league potential, and he'll start on the top pair.
