He is 28 years old, turning 29 in a few days. My argument would be to have a NMC for the first part of the contract and then take it away in the last 3 or so years. That's what Fitzgerald did for Palat and Hamilton. I just think this team has a shot at the cup year after year if they get more physical and get the saves they need. Yes, it is a lot, but NSH won't take less. We have to give them a reason to give up a star goalie. I think Saros is our only shot at a star goalie.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jakethesnake97</b></div><div>The main piece of this trade is Sean Monahan. Then, I added Jake Allen.
Imagine your line up with Monahan

I think Monahan would definitely improve the team. But idk if it’s worth a first round pick when the only place we can substantially improve in terms of personnel is in net. If anything, I’d rather spend a first and maybe even more assets on a goalie. We have lot of forward depth and our d needs time to develop

NJs first isn’t even available for this year and we definitely would not be spending it on Jake Allen. Not saying we have better options on our current team, but in no way shape or form is he worth a first even with retention

I was going back and forth constantly with them. I just feel that the flames are destined for some type of bounce back season. I have no faith in their long term ability to compete, but I think they are much better this season due to bounce back performances. Much better and they were just outside a playoff spot so I think they’re destined to make it. It’s a toss up though between the canucks and flames

Explain to me why the devils would do this trade. Especially for any value whatsoever. That would just help ya guys out. This would also make us over the cap by a decent amount. Zero reason NJ does this

Marino is a strict defense first type of player. Has offensive flashes, but is incredible because of his defensive play. I think the reason Fitzy got Marino was because he realized that Luke and marino would work extremely well together. Luke being more offensive and marino being more defensive. They played in the playoffs together on the same pair when Luke was in the lineup. Played the most minutes together, and was the best pairing for the devils on the ice when together. I think it’s a perfect pairing

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>The price is $4.5M at full salary. Throw in player that will not make it through waivers (and wont have a spot on this team) for retention and there is no salary issue. Nemec will be the answer, I just don't know if it's this season. Gudas just completed a $2.5M per season, he will want $3 for at least 1 maybe 2 yrs. Schenn was much cheaper but probably wont take a one yr deal eitehr, just had a kid, will want some stability. Connor Clifton? Probably wants multiple yrs. Here is a list of UFA d men, take a look and tell me who fits: https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/free-agents/defenseman/ufa/</div></div>
That’s not the point of my stance. My stance is that these UFAs that are solid bonified Nhl players that would play on the bottom pair for most teams know the devils situation. They know that the devils will prioritize Nemec if he makes the team. Why would a guy like Gudas or Schenn sign in Nj if they might be sitting on the sideline behind nemec? And why would devils management wanna sign a guy that is somewhat expensive and a bonified nhler if he might take time away from nemec, if nemec is ready, which would stunt his development? We’ll ultimately see what Nj does, but I believe they won’t go and spend money on a bonified bottom pair guy that may cost money that would also wanna play ahead of a guy like Nemec. It’s gotta be a fringe bottom pair guy imo

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>You keep saying might be ready
Might not too!
Vet D like Luke Schenn, Gudas, no thanks.
If you can get a top 4 d man for one yr after letting 2 core d men leave in FA for a third + you do it. Stunting growth is making nemec play another yr in Jr. Is Holtz being stunted. He's 19 yrs old how much stunting is even a thing. No degender is hoibg ti get hurt all season too i guess. Making the D better is always a better thing to do.</div></div>
It’s about if Nemec is ready. You don’t wanna automatically put him back in the AHL if he’s ready for the Nhl. Devils coaches and management have been saying that he’s going to be fighting for a spot in training camp. It’s a 50/50 shot. Also don’t need the price of a top 4 D and caliber of a top 4 d to play on the third pair. These are the cards that the devils have been dealt with. I believe they will do something similar to what I have in terms of getting a cheap guy for that spot in case Nemec isn’t ready. We’ll agree to disagree though

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Smitty426</b></div><div>Sense? Two rookie defenders and a guy who has played 66 pro gms ever. 1/2 your d are babies. Sure could it work, maybe. But why take a risk. Tanev is $4.5m for this yr and a ufa. He'd be a top 4 D on this team. 6'2 195, Fitz hates that! Worroed about cap (for one yr) send over a guy who would not clear waivers. The d won't be as "good" as it was this yr. No TDL move giving up more. Heavy players in the playoffs help. Nemec can always come up and play.
That's sensible.</div></div>
So you’re saying the devils should give up assets, likely a 2nd or 3rd round pick, for a d man that might not play because you can’t stunt Nemec’s development? Makes no sense. Sign someone for free, a veteran to help the young d core. Sign a veteran that won’t demand a lot of money that could slot into the 3rd pair RD spot but could also be a healthy scratch if Nemec is ready, or that could be sent down. If you get Tanev and Nemec is ready, but Tanev is better, that just stunts Nemec’s development. Shouldn’t be a big move for the RHD spot. You have a solid option in nemec, but if he isn’t ready, don’t waste assets and sign a solid guy for that spot

Why trade for Chris Tanev if Nemec might make the roster? There’s no point in giving up assets if Nemec is ready over him. Also might not work with the cap depending on how expensive it is to sign everyone. Get a cheaper guy to sign or get assets back because the extra RHD will be a fringe player. Doesn’t make sense

What did Jersey do to the sign and trade market
The difference is that the jets get to keep PLD if they don’t resign him past July 1st due to him being an RFA. Severson becomes a UFA on July 1st and can sign anywhere. Probably the best possible move the devils could have made. Never seen a ufa get a 3rd rounder before. Incredible deal for the devils

NJD fans how much is Blackwoods RFA rights worth and his next contract
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>If I had to handicap it, I would say chances are:
25% we qualify him
15% we sign him to below QO
20% we trade his rights

Schmid has exemptions left, so Fitzy could opt for Vanecek/Blackwood tandem to start 2023-24. Last thing we want is too few goalies like 2021-22. (And Blackwood himself may be more likely to clear waivers that any UFA we may sign). If Mack gets healthy and some confidence back, there is a good goalie in there somewhere.</div></div>
I believe in Blackwood and his ability, but there’s no more opportunity left. He’s not gonna wanna sign here. I think he’d rather go somewhere where he has an opportunity. He’s not gonna agree to be the third string yet again, except now for a whole season instead of just the postseason. Get a cheap third string if we are worried about goalies. I don’t think that’s necessary bc we have Daws in the system and Tyler Brennan will be backing him up. I believe Daws could hold down the fort in a few games if need be. Not trying to jinx anything, but our only goalie injuries last year were Blackwood twice. Akira and Vitek were both healthy so hopefully goalie injuries don’t become a problem. Even if the devils wanna bring him back, I doubt he signs

Originally thought that the Devils could get a 4th or 5th rounder out of him. But knowing his qualifying contract and other RFAs who are not worth their contract, their value is already slim to none, and also don’t have a spot in the lineup, I think that the devils won’t qualify him and they’ll let Blackwood become a FA. I don’t think anyone will pay a 4th or 5th to have to pay the qualifying offer of 3+ mil. Someone would rather get him for free in FA with a lower cap hit

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Tatar had a great season (a lot better than last year). But even on a one-year deal, his AAV should be around where it is now.

3-year $3.5m
Something like that. I doubt he gets more than 3-years on open market.</div></div>
I think he probably gets 2 years at 5-5.5 on the open market. He got just shy of 50pts this year and he’s gritty in puck battles and a leader. He can play anywhere in ur lineup too. A team will pay for a Tatar. Yes, 7 mil is a lot for one year and I did 7 mil bc the devils have the cap space in this world, and I think Tatar is an important part of this group. Just wanted him to automatically sign for 1 year. If he decides to take a discount to stay with the devils, then those numbers that ur suggesting might be right.

I’d be fine with McLeod on the fourth line. I just think that he has so much more to offer than a dump and chase then cycle game. I think he does that really well, but I think he should be given the opportunity to play with better players and with a little bit more of a possession based line. I’d be cool with Mikey going back to 4C during points of the season and put haula at 3C. Then shuffle some other things around. I also think Wood is gonna want an opportunity to play more minutes and earn his next contract since he was expected to get more than his QO for long term for this upcoming contract, then he didn’t have the year he thought he would have. I think Wood is gonna walk in FA

I know it’s an overpayment, but you gotta overpay for a player with 90-95 point potential on this team. Also I want to include sharangovich bc he is invisible in the bottom six. We have penalty killers that can step up (better ones imo. Haula Boqvist hischier Mercer McLeod Bastian are all better on the pk and defensively in general than shar). Also shar is not incredible along the birds and that is a focus with this team. A lot of their success is winning their board battles and shar is a lot worse than even a lot of guys in our bottom six. Shar is gonna be in the 3-4.5 mil range and the devils can’t afford that price in their bottom six with limited production in the bottom six and absolutely no physicality. Meier takes his place in the top 6 which would force shar to play a role in which he sucks at
