The French HUGONAUTs
Monahan was a serviceable cap dump with 1 year at 6.3 mil and that cost Calgary a first. I would want a first to take on Anderson. Anderson has a slightly lower cap hit but he has two years. The 2nd year extending into Bedard’s next contract. And who knows what ‘serviceable’ will look like for Anderson by the 25-26 season.

Calgary-Hawks Offseason
Hawks have enough picks and prospects. What they won’t have enough of is cap space in 4-5 years with an acquisition like this.

Over reaction indeed. Getting rid of him with no replacement on the left side to have Benoit and Lagesson pick up the minutes is not a good plan. And if he’s been that bad, why would NJ spend a 3rd on him?

Why trade Brodie when you have the cap space to keep him? That left side is pretty lackluster.

The owners should be forced out of the league
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>Get off your high horse. The entire league is rotten along with most of the owners, and most leagues, and most corporations, and most sports. This happens to young MALE players and everyone loses their minds. But how many times have team office workers and women who work in the league been mistreated, assaulted, harrassed, raped, etc. and no one holds those organizations to the same standard. I absolutely agree that more needs to be done, but to act like this isn't a corporate culture, and sport culture issue, and that it is only the Blackhawks organization, is completely ignorant. I can guarantee you there are many teams with equally or even more egregious cover ups that we don't, and never will, know about, and people who are too scared to ever come forward.
Corporations and profit generating organizations wanted "Citizens United" to recognize them as people when it comes to issues of money, but when it comes to social issues they dissociate and want everyone to believe corporations are just machines with no accountability.</div></div>

I'm actually embarrassed for you by your response to Garak. Seems like you just want a reason to **** on the Blackhawks than advocate for the actual issue at hand.

Seems like I’m the only hawks fan that would take this deal. Why are you guys so worried about 1 retention slot? You can still make trades without retention. They’ll reach the point where they intend to sign guys long term and to compete for the playoffs rather than signing guys to trade. They’ll be like most other teams in a few years and not even use all their slots. And even if they do, this return is better than retaining on players like Domi for a 2nd round pick. Ostlund and Buffalo’s first is pretty sweet if you ask me. Would be nice if Colorado’s first was a different year. That is my only complaint and it’s not even a bad one.

I don’t think Stramel should make the team just because he was on it last year. He has had a rough start to the year and has dealt with injuries. I know Whitelaw is likely invited to camp but there are several players I’m putting in the lineup over him. Hate to plug my own teams prospects but I think Nazar easily makes this team. Gavin Hayes also has a really solid chance of making the team. Adds size and grit to the bottom 6 and has been scoring at an insane pace this season. I think Scott Wheeler projected both Hayes and Nazar to make the team.

A lot pans out here obviously
I agree there is still a lot left for the rebuild but you have some weird things here to this not adding up to an accurate outlook.
- Crevier likely doesn’t get his contract renewed at the end of the current season. Even if he does, his shot at playing in the NHL is unbelievably miniscule. Probably the same with Saarela.
- There will be UFA signings each year to some extent. The only one you made is for a player currently playing in the AHL. Loved Hayden when he was here but not sure he is cracking NHL rosters in two years.
- Giving Vlasic too much.
- Entwistle is not a 2nd line player and will not get that contract. 4th line/healthy scratch player at best if he’s even still here in two years.
- Slaggert likely a 4th line type player
- Gajan will not be ready by then.
- Jecho or Hensler will not be in the NHL by then
- What happened to Kurashev? Kaiser? Guttman?
- Safonov could be coming over from the KHL
Feel like you could have picked some better things to pan out. Like one of Hayes, Greene, Ludwinski, or Savoie to make the team. Rinzel or Del Matstro on defense.

Questions for EDM and CHI
I think you need to aim lower with a Nurse return. Everyone you listed, Korchinski, Zellweger and Simashev, are all top of the line defenseman prospects. Nobody is giving up a player like that for a soon to be 29 year old defenseman making 9 mil for 7 more years. I’d say go a tier lower on the prospects. Even then teams might view this more as helping EDM than getting an asset themself. 9 mil is not easy to move. If you’re willing to retain on Nurse, that would help the return.
I also see a lot of comments about moving Korchinski to get pieces around Bedard. Korchinski is a piece that will be here for the Bedard era. Defenseman matter, not just his line mates.

Using the Neal-Lucic trade model
I find it odd that you say “plus maybe a draft pick?” on the Chicago trade. It’s most certainly a draft pick. A first rounder and more. Let’s be realistic, dumping Campbell requires quality assets.

ChiHawk step 2
I would do the EDM trade but I doubt they give up 3 firsts to move Campbell (yes I see the other pieces involved in the trade). Three firsts is a lot for one trade. I'm all about taking the gamble on Vlasic. He has easily been the best from our young defensemen playing this season. I would try to give Nino one less year, especially if you are giving Reichel a two year bridge. You'll have Bedard, Reichel and Korchinski to sign with that one year left of Nino. McDavid will also be a UFA that year and I can see him leaving EDM if they can't even reach the finals. Hawks could be a very enticing option for him in three years. So I'd avoid that third year on Nino. I don't think I'd want to pay Reinhart either. It seems like a contract that we'll be trying to shed after a couple years. I've been thinking about targeting Stamkos this upcoming year if Tampa doesn't extend him. Overpay him for two years and resign him in line with Bedard's next contract. He can become our Pavelski.

3 way trade
Value is not there for Chicago. Trading away two good roster players for two cap dumps and a left handed defenseman (a position they don’t need). Would really need to rework the assets coming back to Chicago.
