<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>"A 3rd liner is part of the core? Where are you expecting Benson, Savoie, and Kulich to play? You're just not making any sense." Idk why thats so controversial, good 3rd line forwards are regularly part of teams cores. I expect Benson to take Skinner's spot once age catches up to him. Savoie is a bust. Kulich will likely round out the top 9 taking Greenway's spot.
"He's signed his 1C, 2C, and top pair d man & partner to Dahlin to long term deals. That means he's signing everyone to long term deals now?" Anyone they are fully invested in yeah. Why would he give Samuelsson term but not mittelstadt? Samuelsson's numbers (from a negotiating position) arent even that good. He had no leverage, but Adams was willing to commit anyways. If he likes they player, hell keep him long term. Again, not all that controversial
"Where else is he gonna be playing? Are you gonna be giving a major raise to a guy on the 3rd line? You've said like multiple guys will be getting top 6 minutes lmao. You're not gonna have a guy on the 3rd line making 6M. Adams will just trade him if he wants that much." I actually said Quinn and Peterka, two guys you left out of this convo fyi, will get top six minutes. And again, its not all that uncommon for a 3rd liner teams are high on to get long term commitment. Keep in mind, this is 6 million at a 92 million dollar salary cap.
"Young goalies never play 50+ games their first few seasons. Insane to expect a guy to have that kind of workload his first year." Fully agree, which is why they wont make the playoffs next year.
"It doesn't really seem like you do. Rask & Tim Thomas split a lot of time his first few years. It's a good way that Levi doesn't get forced to have an insane workload. They can split the amount of games they play. If Levi struggles he isn't forced to play for the Sabres to have a chance." No I promise you I understand what you are saying, I just dont agree with any of it lmao nor do I think the Sabres will trade for Gibson. Let's face it, it's trending that way (the Sabres not adding a goalie).</div></div>
Because your 3rd line / 4th line / bottom pair d men are a revolving door on good teams. The core is your top players. Paying 3rd liners big contracts is how you get in cap hell. That's what Tampa did with Tyler Johnson. They avoided that mistake again and moved JT Miller when they realize they didn't have a spot in the top 6 for him. Adams is smart. He's not going to pay a guy big money to play 15-16 minutes a game.
"Savoie is a bust" Ok thanks for self identifying yourself as clueless. I don't have to waste my time anymore.
"Why would he give Samuelsson term but not mittelstadt?" You literally read out why lmao. He's Dahlin's partner. They envision him being on the top pair with him.
"I actually said Quinn and Peterka, two guys you left out of this convo fyi, will get top six minutes." Yes and Cozens, Tage, Tuch, Skinner who will obviously still be getting top 6 minutes.
"this is 6 million at a 92 million dollar salary cap. " LMAO so Gibson's contract wouldn't be that big of a deal anyways?
"Fully agree, which is why they wont make the playoffs next year." They were a few points away last year. I don't see why they couldn't. Levi just won't be getting an insane amount of games.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>They are totally different team now, anyone who is part of the core doesnt get a bridge deal lol. He literally hasnt done that since the team became competent. Casey put up nearly 60 pts not playing in the top six. Hes not going to take less money just because we say hes a 3rd liner. Theyd have to trade him in that scenario (which they should explore for sure)
Why is Levi only playing 30-40 games? If he's as good as everyone says he is, he will play more than Gibson, a goalie with a sub 900 save percentage? Like I get the gibson idea, its good shelter for him in his rookie year, but beyond that who would you rather invest in, him or Levi? its a no brainer.</div></div>

He does do bridge deals lmao. He literally gave Mittelstadt, Jokiharju, and Tage bridge deals.
Again how many roster spots are on this team? If Quinn/Peterka are playing top 6 minutes that means Mitts won't. So a guy not playing top 6 minutes will be getting a major raise? They also have Benson, Savoie, Kulich in the waiting. Those guys need spots. Also will be on ELCs.
Yea and he likely won't be getting a major contract when he's playing 30-40 games a season. That doesn't even make sense.

No it's not a problem at all if you look at their cap. There aren't that many roster spots on the team. That's just reality. They aren't going to be paying Mitts a major raise when he's gonna be on the 3rd line. Some of these young guys will get bridges.

He knows what he’s doing and trading for that albatross contract is not something he would do, no matter the cost. Gibson at that contract will likely stop one guy from signing long term.
For less than 5 and more in the region of 4 millions it’s a deal even if Buffalo would have to add quite a lot for that retention. Buffalo has endless of talent but there’s just that much cap space</div></div>
> Gibson at that contract will likely stop one guy from signing long term.
No. They're pretty good with cap space. Would still have around 30M+ next year even with Gibson + Dahlin/Power extensions. They still have plenty of young guys on ELCs coming up to replace vets like Kulich/Savoie/Benson. It's not an issue.

Buffalo has a ton of cap space going forward.

He hasn't been a good goalie on a bad anaheim team. We've seen countless guys look like completely different players on new teams. Like Georgiev & Samsonov this year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rktkt66</b></div><div>If you listen to what Adams said on Sunday after the signings and what Granato said yesterday, it's blatantly obvious they are placing a premium on the "mentor" aspect of Johnson bringing his experience from a winning organization that evolved from a rebuild like what the Sabres are seeing themselves doing. It's also real obvious from those two interviews that they think Clifton will fit into their top 4. So, connect the dots and ask:
1. Are Dahlin, Power or Samuelsson going to play outside of the top 4? No.
2. If they were to add Pesce, who'll be 30 this season, will they give him the long-term extension he's been reported as wanting (i.e. Severson)? Not likely.
3. Are they going to deviate from their consistent stance of trading for Pesce as a 1-year rental and forfeit the assets to do so? No way.
Bottom line - and it really sounded more evident in Granato's interview yesterday - is that they feel like they have their roster complete, outside of possibly a forward addition (which Adams alluded to in his PC but Granato said he didn't have any worries filling Quinn's spot from within).</div></div>
GM & coach talking up guys they signed doesn't mean they wouldn't want a very good d man in this league that would be a huge boost to one of their weak spots. They reportedly were interested. Carolina just seemed unsure in the past whether they were going to sign him. Now it seems that the trade option is more likely.

I don't think this means anything. Are you expecting Granato to come out and say we could use another top 4 guy, but I guess we gotta deal with what we got lol? Clifton & Johnson would likely still be playing even with Pesce added. Bryson on waivers. Joki part of trade. Stillman in the booth. Boosh/EJ could rotate.
