I completely understand anyone who says we need to trade a big name player for a top defenseman. But realistically the Leafs won’t, so there has to be a solution. The Blues need offense, clearly. The finished 24th in GF/GP last season, yet they were sixth in GA/GP. They have great defence but weak offense. The leafs on the other hand were middle of the pack being 12th in GA/GP. But their offense is obviously stacked being 4th in GF/GP. Connor Brown could bolster that Blues offense slightly as he scored 40 points a year ago, with 20 goals. He had limited minutes this year because are so stacked on offense. Jeremy Bracco is approaching his first full year in the AHL. He plays similarly to an Ivan Barbashev and plays with a real offensive flair. I put in Garrett Sparks because I wouldn’t trust Chad Jonson as your backup, plus Sparks put up a ridiculous season in the AHL. The first and second are sweeteners, considering the leafs could go to the 2nd/3rd round. You guys are pretty good with late 1st pick(e.g. this year, Dominik Bokk).

This entire deal wasn’t totally directed at St. Louis, but other teams with strong RD as well (Justin Faulk, they just gave up Skinner and Lindholm, or Chris Tanev, would lower the trade a little).

You could do Brown, Gardiner and a 2nd. Again, Carolina and St. Louis need offense, Gardiner can certainly help that.

There are so many different possibilities with this and I’m not going to be right with this every time.

By AHL only I didn’t mean an actual AHL only contract, I meant young player we draft/sign that will only play AHL (e.g. Rich Clune, Martins Dierkalz, Pierre Engvall etc.)

Hope this helped clear up anything.
