Not changing too much
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hawksguy81</b></div><div>Ok. So in this scenario he tells Tampa he won't sign and wants to be traded to NJ? Yegor and picks isn't a package Tampa would want. Yegor could cost as much or more than Colton. I'm guessing Tampa would want Bahl for sure, and probably Mcleod or another NHL ready forward on an ELC. Tampa's GM isn't going to want picks. They're still in "win now" mode.</div></div>
I’m not saying he’s gonna want out of Tampa and only wants to play here. I’m saying that if he were traded here, he’d likely sign a smaller AAV contract than if he had stayed in Tampa

I feel like he’d be willing to sign cheaper here than in Tampa though. He has made it quite clear that he would love to play here and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him take a very team friendly deal

End this season already
Honestly I’d say that’s a fair trade for bratt. Obviously I love bratt, as most devils fans do, and the ideal situation is to get him signed, but if he wanted out or we couldn’t reach an agreement this is 100% fair

What I would like to see this off-season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pretzelcoatl</b></div><div>I think when it comes to "grit" Fitz isn't as old fashioned as you might think. He can't do anything without analytics signing off, and I'm sure analytics loves Tatar and would push for him to be kept around. I'd give Tatar up to 5 on a 1-2 year deal but I think if he knows he can win here he'd take a 3x3 or similar.</div></div>
I would love that. I do believe tuna could stay here to win and with a contract like that, I’d take him all day.

Honestly fair enough, I would rather have Tuna than Freddy. I just don’t know how much Tatar might want/I feel like fitz is the type of guy to go out and try harder for a grit player than offer Tatar a new contract

Meier will be traded tomorrow
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac555</b></div><div>Same with Jarvis - this is a moot point. Meier would be a Cane or Devil if either of those players were on the table.
At the end of the day, The Devils SHOULD be able to outbid most teams because they have a solid mix of young roster players and top end prospects.
We are staring at a good ole fashioned gun fight with the Sharks, Devils and Canes all pointing their weapons at each other. Maybe Fitzgerald has a itchy finger and does something dumb.
If everyone acts rationally - Meier becomes a Cane by a slight overpay by a team with a lot of assets they can play with. If Devils act irrationally - some really high end young players are going to be wearing Teal.</div></div>
Yea, we are definitely prepared to see something interesting whenever timo gets traded

Yes trade comp that are compared to actual trades that happened in real life (with one that I explicitly stated wasn’t even close to the price and wouldn’t happen) are exactly like a crappy hypothetical from Forbes

Schmid has done great in a backup role when called upon this year. And Nemec is sitting at a modest 64 PNHLe and a +9 his first year playing in NA. I think your concerns are a tad unwarranted.</div></div>
I just simply don’t think we should bank on all three of those players being able to slot into those roles next year. Especially boqvist, who didn’t record a single point from November 25th til January 10th

Boqvist has 11 points in 47 games. We should not bank on Schmid being our backup next year or nemec being ready. I’d much rather spend 12m on 3 or 4 solid players than 1 elite player

The fact that we have mediocre depth here (and nemec probably needs another year of development) is the reason I don’t want him. Sacrificing depth for a strong top 6 sounds like a specific team in edmonton that is struggling in a wild card spot right now. I’d rather sign good depth players and get a top 6er that’s cheaper than pasta (maybe 9m at most)

The backup plan
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RV23</b></div><div>How do you figure? 36.6 million in available cap space certainly seems like enough to get both Pasternak and Bratt signed and have money to fill out the roster after. Are we really gonna be upset if we have those two, and just don’t bring back Blackwood, Tatar, Severson, and Wood? Sign me up.</div></div>
We also need to find replacements for like, half of the bottom 6 (wood, Haula, tuna) which should cost us ~10 mil. Plus we have to resign the rest of the bottom 6 (McLeod, Bass, Zett, Boq if we want to), which should be another 3-4 mil out of our pockets. It really starts to add up. 12 for Pasta + 8 for Bratt + 14 for the bottom 6 is already 34 million gone, ignoring the fact that we need to sign Luke, another right handed dman to replace Sevo, and a backup goalie

I made it so that it might be a slight overpay on our end because I feel like that’s the only way ARI will move a guy like Schmaltz. Realistically the package would probably strike closer to just shar and a the 1st or something similar but I feel like Walsh won’t ever become a roster player for us so I just threw him in there too.
