Getting Karlsson to Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>Injuries certainly don't ever become more common as you go through your mid 30's eh? Karlsson is getting paid for his former self, at 35 he's not going to be performing half as good as he is now. No way anyone is going to take on that risk</div></div>
LOL. Getting paid for his former self you say, yet this season he is on pace for 108 points and probably his 3rd Norris trophy at 32 years of age. Your statement is once again, absurd.

Getting Karlsson to Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJDevils1317</b></div><div>I'm saying if they buy him out those two years.
Also, having a Norris trophy D does what exactly for a very bad team? Helps them get the 8th overall pick instead of the 2nd overall?
SJS has the wealthiest owner in the NHL. If he wants to turn it around faster, start moving things for the future ASAP.</div></div>
LOL. The buy out comment was in response to your comment that those years could be an issue, but that is no guarantee. My comment is it is way cheaper to do that than to retain 50% now, which is absurd.
Having a Norris type guy on a rebuilding team just may help younger players develop quicker, no? Also, if he wins a 3rd Norris, do you think his trade value goes down at the draft this year or during next year? The answer is NO. The Sharks owner and management knows it's going to be a process that takes a few years, and burying themselves with dumb costly buy outs is not a way to rebuild. Only a fool would try that.

If Horvat would sign at $7m x 5, the Canucks would have already signed him.

Except for having a Norris Trophy type defensman playing for you. And, if you could read, I did say they may trade him, but not a chance they retain 50%. Reading is fundamental.

Getting Karlsson to Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RipNasty</b></div><div>To think this outlier season is going to be what comes down the road with his 11.5 million dollar cap hit is absurd. He's all yours, enjoy this small blip while it lasts</div></div>
Yeah, well, I'm a Ranger fan so he is all the Sharks, so there is that. To think a 2-time Norris winner, who may make it 3 this season isn't as good as he is showing right now is absurd. The knock on him has always been injuries. He is healthy and doesn't have to share ice time with Burns anymore and you see the result. I even said the Sharks may trade him, but NOT with 50% retention, which is as absurd as your comment.

There is not a team in the league that takes Millers contract at full cost.

Getting Karlsson to Toronto
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NJDevils1317</b></div><div>Who is paying more for Karlsson AND what is even a Norris worthy season doing for them now?? Is the dream to be middling? Meier will be gone soon, so what's the plan??</div></div>
How would I know their "plan"? And they could trade Karlsson, but they are not retaining that kind of money in any trade. It would be cheaper to buy out his last 2 years, if they became a problem, than to retain 50% for over 4 years. It's not like he is the problem.

You think the Sharks are going to retain 50% for 4 more years after this one, to move a guy that is on pace to win another Norris? That is absurd.

Rangers probably take that deal but it would be a waste of a 1st round pick, because an aging and diminishing Kane isn't going to matter that much in the playoffs.

Laffy, NYR 1st, and a 2nd rounder is likely what DeBrincat fetches in this draft. NYR seem to have cap space coming up as they are also in on Timo Meier who requires a $10M QO.</div></div>
Rangers do not have anywhere near that kind of cap space next season, it's basic math.
