Swap Goalies
But why though? Talbot is better than Fleury at this point, regardless of the difference in playoff experience. I love Flower, but he is no longer a starter that can anchor a playoff run. Plus, Guerin traded away Talbot once already due to Talbot and his agent's complaints - don't think that bodes well for wanting him back.

The Wild can get a better return for Maroon than this, especially if they have to retain salary. I'm thinking more like a 24' 4th + whatever roster player if the Wild want it.

Final run for Fleury question mark
Of all the teams Fleury waves his no-move for, I personally don't believe it would be this year's Kings. But yea sure, the Wild would take the 1st. :)

They're very comparable as of this minute. With KK's age and cheaper cap hit, I think it's understandable to rather have the Finn, and I love JEE. Plus, when KK scores, Montreal cries, and that just makes hockey better for everyone.</div></div>
Lol, love the last bit. That was a big D move on Waddell's part. Cheers to that!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Kotkaniemi and JEE are much more comparable than you think. KK's offense isn't much worse, and he's analytically better defensively than JEE. They're closer in value than a lot of people think, I wouldn't move one for the other, especially because the wild, as you put it "inexplicably" extended JEE for a long time too!</div></div>
Granted, Kotkaniemi is younger and has a few years to get to JEE's level. But, according to hockey-reference.com for 23-24:
Plus/Minus: JEE +10, Kotkaniemi -11
Blocks: JEE 38, Kotkaniemi 24
Expected +/-: JEE 3.0, Kotkaniemi: 1.4
Team On-Ice Save %: JEE .904, Kotkaniemi .889
Team On-Ice Shooting %: JEE 11.4, Kotkiemi 6.7
Relative Fenwick For %: JEE 3.4, Kotkaniemi 0.2
Relative Corsi For %: JEE 2.9, Kotkaniemi -1.3
Defensive Point Shares: JEE 1.5, Kotkaniemi 0.5
All while JEE plays on a much worse team this season. So... yea, disagree on the analytics claim.

Yea the Wild don't do this trade. Kotkaniemi is a worse version of JEE who the Canes inexplicably extended for eight years as soon as they got him, and Suzuki is a useless throw-in. With their cap problems through next season, a hypothetical JEE trade would involve a Necas + blue-chip prospect with an ELC instead of picks.

Faber is going to get waaaaaay more AAV than that, count on 7-8M range. Also, you gotta fill out your roster dude - teams always carry 22 or 23 players, not just 20. No team that competes for the playoffs is going to let 10M in cap just sit around unused.

Yea not enough value here for how much value Hartzy gives the Wild. And he just got extended. Looking over the Avs' org, I don't think there is anything Minnesota wants in return that would convince them to trade him away after the extension, especially to a division rival. That is unless the Avs are willing to part with their 1st in June, which I assume is a no-go.

My two cents and C/P from replies to other Middleton trade posts on here: the Wild want more big & mobile D-men, not less. Mids is not going anywhere right now.

Very cool. Yea it would be fun to see Brods get an A even if (agreed) it is doubtful he ever gets the C. He is an important top-4 piece on the team and now the longest tenured active Wild player other than Spurgeon.

Genuinely curious to know why you think Brodin should have the C - seems like everyone wants JEEK, Zucc, or even Faber if Spurgeon were gone.
Also, you would need two more players to round out this roster. Teams usually get to and stay at 22 or the max of 23.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SpiderSpiderSpider28</b></div><div>Philly probably accepts that. Are you sure Minnesota would want to do that though?</div></div>
Yea the Wild would want more than just a 3rd here. If it's a pick, I'm thinking it'd be more like Columbus' 2nd.
Zucc, Freddy, and Hartzy are all locked up beyond next year so they're not on the block anyway. And Mids is not going anywhere for the time being - the Wild need more big mobile D-men, not less.

I just don't see a scenario where EE is ever on the block. He is a player you build a championship team with. And Gaudreau as the 2C here is a massive problem.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LegendaryMNsports</b></div><div>Honestly, I'd personally dump Spurgeon, but I'm not aware of the details of the M-NTC, ( I'm still learning all of this GM stuff so I'm not even sure on how we could pull a complex trade that's advantageous to the team and the cap) then I'd probably give the "C" to Zuccarello. Spurgeon is solid, but so is the rest of our defense and all things considered the talent is there without Spurgeon, just some kinks to iron out.
Also wouldn't be opposed to giving Teravinen a longer term. I think it would be worth it.</div></div>
I wish we could dump him, but who is going to take an oft-injured 34 year old who has three years left at 7.5M?

After giving up oodles of goals to start the season, the Wild needed someone with size and grit on the right side who can help kill penalties with Middleton being the only other one. Writing was also on the wall for Addison to be the odd guy out since late last season, and he is replaceable on the PP. Just cannot have him and Spurgeon both starting on the same NHL roster.

Opening Night Predictions
I think Rossi starts between Gaudreau and Foligno - he needs to play with decent skill players in order to start flourishing, especially if he starts on that third line. Another small point: it has been reported and confirmed that Ohgren will not be in NA pro hockey until 24-25. He will be at Farjestad again this year. But yes, hopefully Walker/Beckman/etc get some good looks!

Yep, pretty much. Lots of shuttles between Des Moines and St. Paul this year because of the dead cap.
Most likely swap Middleton and Brodin, though. And I really hope Rossi proves himself to get a look in the top six.

grit and depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>swinny</b></div><div>The issue with that trade construct is Hartman's contract maybe the best in the NHL. Being a 50-60 point guy with jam and can play centre has value. Getting that at $1.9 million? That makes him a very very valuable commodity that in this construct takes away from a Nylander return. Now, his market value as a UFAis tougher to gauge, but I would be thinking the baseline of a new deal is around Trochek..... and depnding on the term, that could still look OK.
But, if Willy wants his $10 million per, I am not sure that happens in Minny unless your aforementioned prospect are ready next year.... which they could be (I like Minny's system a lot). Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be trickier than meets the eye.</div></div>
Good points, that particular package would be very unlikely. Thus my comment about seeing whether Nylander just gets to UFA and try to sign him there instead. The Wild will need Hartman, Foligno, and the other cheap contracts this season. That will make getting Nylander much more unlikely, as I assume if he gets traded he would sign an extension with the team he lands on. But he ain't the only big name out there... i.e., an Elias Lindholm would be a better fit based on the Wild's needs, especially if the C prospects aren't up to expectation.
I would include Pettersson there too, but his trade/re-sign price will be astronomical.
