Very possible Contender and Rebuild lost picks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Timmah007</b></div><div>Yes let’s ship off the only DEFENSEMEN we have.</div></div>
Actually they aren't our "only" defenceman. We currently have klefbom, bear, nurse, Russel, Larson, jones, Broberg, Bouchard leggeson, samorukov, I'm talking about trading 2 and adding 2 better ones, Barrie is better than Larrson. Gustavsen is better than Russel. I like Russel, but he was a healthy scratch for the last 20 games.

Gustafsson/Barrie very underrated duo indeed
To make the cap work (Klef off LTIR) would NYR be interested in Kassian for grit + Koskinen as a veteran backup for BSmith + Howden (rough sketch deal)
Greiss is as good as Koski then sign a cheap backup
Either way this is a definite cap era contender</div></div>
Theres 1.8 cap space. At halfway point of season 1.8 becomes 3.6 mil cap space. If klefbom misses half the season, he will only cost 2.083 for half a season. So he could come back within the cap

Bjork is a good bottom 6 grinder, no way he makes top 6 on this team, benson , Neal, Ennis are all better options at LW for Draisaitl. I don't think he has ever broken the 10 goal mark.

Loved Holland grabbing Turris for a great deal. There's no way Barrie gets 5mil. He is barely worth 3.5 on a normal year. This year I wouldn't give him 2. 2 months of experience and Bouchard will pass Barrie on all skill levels. Bouchard over Barrie all the way

My guess for oppening night
Barrie... maybe if we can get him for under 2mil.. I don't see him as an upgrade on Bouchard. Bouchard was pretty close to ready 2 years ago, last year, they left him down for an extra year, just in case. His contract can't slide anymore. Barrie is about equal offensively, and has a terrible reputation defending. So Bouchard has a way better upside as he is still developing.

I think the offer for Ehlers is a little low. His contract is pretty sweet. If we could keep him and Nuge. It would give us 2 of the best lines in the NHL.

Losing Klefbom But Not Rushing Broberg or Bouchard
Bouchard is over ripe. He was ready last year. Broberg has been playing adult pro league for 2+ years. Samorukov is draft plus 3 years. If these guys don't start seeing NHL time soon, they will plateau in their development.

Larrson is a league top 10 hitter the last 5 years. He is right shot d that can legitimately play against the other teams top line effectively all night long. Jets would be lucky to fill that spot just giving up a bottom 6 forward and mid 1st round pick. Jets win that trade too

AA was playing the one of the worst teams in history. He was still on pace for 40 points. His minus was horrible but that's not all on him. He looked out of shape when he first got here too. But he was pretty good against Chicago, looked more like the guy we thought we were getting.

Oilersnation had an article "Can the oilers afford Pietrangelo" There are other links from there that oilers could be looking at him. Other trades I've made are just possibilities. If Muzzin gets a 1st rounder for 2months. Larrson gets a 1st rounder for 1 year. He hits as much or more and blocks shots. AA is an exciting player. He is only 1 year since a 30 goal year, he's still young and his speed can create opportunities. Holland got a good deal for him at 2 2nd round picks just a few games ago. He will be qualified, we can't walk away from an asset that valuable

Neal had 19 goals even though he played with a broken big toe and then sprained ankle for half of the shortened season, he's big, hits hard and can produce offence. Even on the 4th line he was one of our most effective players against Chicago. That offer to Ottawa is way to much in their favour. Only way we're taking zaitsev back is if you're throwing in Tkachuk and everyone knows that wouldn't happen.. Edmonton also has way to many dmen already,

Yeah we just need to dump AA. Flat cap has screwed us for room. I forgot they grabbed kapanen already. They had been pursuing AA at the trade deadline.

Nurse is pretty good, still young, could resign pretty easy in 2 years, defenceman like him don't come along very often. You are right about Ehlers contract though. It's pretty good. I would start with that offer and go from there. I would add a first rounder if it came down to it. I just don't think Holland will part with his 1st round pick. Ehlers would be sick on McDavid line. And cheap enough to stay there for 5 years

Nurse Ehlers
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cody_tugak</b></div><div>Why would you make the defense even worse than it already is? Nurse and Larsson ARE the only real defensive players on the team, the play in rounds proved that, Bouchard and Broberg need at the very least one more year of development</div></div>
Bouchard doesn't need another year. He could have been one of our best d last year. He isn't going to get any better in the AHL. He will be our best Dman by the second half of season. He is clearly above Larrson already, so is Bear, who was our best dman against Chicago. That puts Larrson at 3 RD. He's better than Benning but will only get 15mins a game in softer situations. He's better than that. Broberg needs some more development. But in a sheltered role as 3 LD he can develop here. He is big, strong and skates like the wind. His defending is not far behind Nurse. If his confidence struggles, he can go up and down to AHL. We still have leggeson, jones and samorukov, who is due for at least a short term call up as he is nearly NHL ready as well.

AA can play up and down the line up. He could be a great replacement for Sheary. More offence for less money with crazy speed... Larrson has one year left, but can resign after the entry draft without protection., great RH defender to replace Shultz. Even ahead of Shultz on offence this year without a shift on PP. for 1.5mil left.. what's not to like from pitsburgh side

Neal could switch out with ennis, or hopefully Benson if he takes it up a level. I liked Neal before his injury and against Chicago. He was making the 4th line dangerous.

Koskinen Had .917 saves and 2.75 GAA. Lehner had .920 saves and 2.89 GAA... You want to give up a 1st rounder on top of Koskinen just so you can pay an extra 2.5 million for essentially the same quality goalie... and then resign Smith. Who was the cause of most of our goaltending issues.. I'm not even gonna bother with the rest of your trades. Do you even watch Hockey? Maybe you should watch pickle ball or something your speed

Oil Change
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ryminister_27</b></div><div>On the Oilers, he's easily a first liner. & Leafs aren't adding in picks. Straight up Johnsson for Larsson makes sense or Oilers add in a pick. Johnsson has more term and Larsson was only a third pairing d-man and would probably be Toronto's #4 d-man at best</div></div>
Larrson has played almost his entire career as 1-2 dman, 3-4 as lowest. Always playing against other teams top 2 lines as a top 5 in league hitter, shut down dman. Similar to muzzin. Johnson is not enough with picks, I doubt he is good enough to make a difference on top line. He is no better than AA, Ennis, Neal or JP. Could see this happening because of Larrson contract. And because the oilers are finally in a position of huge depth on defence. Oilers now have 6-7 top 4 dmen with a few more NHL ready. We need LW,

I doubt they would spare the cap space. But Russel is better than lots realize. He is always one of the leaders in shot blocking, he hits and battles. His actual price is only 1.5 million this year. He also is very good at mentoring younger players, helping them with video reviews and doing lots to help their development.

Hall And a Goalie
Well, before Hall went to Arizona, He asked to be traded to Edmonton specifically. His buddies all play here. He also said in an interview after Arizona was eliminated, that money is not something he is concerned with. He wants to compete in the playoffs. I'm hoping he saw how good RNH Draisaitl and Yamamoto were, and is ok getting stuck on the second line with McDavid and his best friend Kassian. He said he would play cheap for a winner. And it wouldn't get much better than than that. As for Murray, they have to trade 1 goalie or lose them to Seattle. And Murray wasn't great this year. I might say buy out Neal and go for Lehner if Murray didn't work out
