<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SNipeSHowInc</b></div><div>Why does Toronto need to clear cap? They aren’t in cap trouble, they have plenty of cap to spend on good players (which there’s a handful of good players available in UFA)
It’s incredible that people think Mitch Marner is worth absolutely nothing, my God</div></div>
Toronto has plenty of cap? WTF do you mean?
You are also missing the bigger picture obviously. How much do you think it would cost to move 22m in money in the NHL? Marner def has value but JT really doesnt imo or he would be hard to move with that cap him.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SNipeSHowInc</b></div><div>Funny thing about trades is that when you trade a player away, their cap goes away… everyone has the same salary cap to work with. So quite literally every team has a chance to trade 1 or 2 players away is they wanted to make room for Marner
And as far as Tavares goes like I said, he’s not waiving and he’s not worth 11m, it’s unrealistic to expect a Tavares trade</div></div>
Toronto needs to clear cap to sign " more impactful" players.... So what team has the cap space to take Marner without taking cap back? that was my question... didnt answer it. You said "dog****" but he took on 22m in cap space while not sending you back cap and having you retain. AGAIN there is MASSIVE value in freeing up 22m without taking back cap.
22m can get you
5m Domi
5.5m Bert
6m Skjei
6m Montour
thats 22.5 million in players right there.... makes your team drastically better give or take a million here or there

Tavares isn’t going to waive, he would need retention if there was anything available, but that’s extremely unrealistic that he moves</div></div>
name one team that has nearly 11 million in free cap space that can take Marner contract without sending back cap? Also he's going to want a 12+m extension. JT makes 12m .... same question but for a much older worse player

Dog****? The Leafs free up nearly 22 million for 2 players that they claim are horrible and dont preform when it matters most. You arent even taking cap back. There is insane value in opening up 22m in cap space

Capitals are very politically correct team... i cant see them wanting the negative press surrounding him. You saw them let Ovechkin get roasted during the Russia thing where he had literally nothing to do with it but it was his fault. Teammates also didnt really say much either. After that theyll stay clear and far from him imo

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Celtics21</b></div><div>Why on earth does Washington do that deal for Laine after his recent play?</div></div>
Honestly asking if you think his recent play is horrible? He might be the cheapest way to get an elite / great top 6 forward
in his last 129 games... or 3 most recent seasons.. he has 54g (.42g/p) roughly 35 g/82gp and 117 points (.91 ppg) or about 75p/82gp.
Big shot. known goal scorer, will cost you a pick that likely doesnt get you a game changing prospect + good prospect that has skating issues.

FWIW I still think it's best to hold onto him and hope for a bounceback ourselves, but if Laine requests a trade or the new GM decides to move on from him, this is something that would work.
I don't think there's any reason to be moving on from Sandin though...</div></div>
Sandin is the odd man out. MF is better we need a true top pairing guy and AA is cheaper

They will not move Leonard for anyone, nor should they. As always, fans should actually look at recent trades for top line players and realize that Matthew Tkachuk aside, it's always incredibly underwhelming.</div></div>
Marner imo isnt waiving to go anywhere. He seems to be in love with Toronto. MT trade isnt really a direct comparable. He basically said trade me or im playing my last year of RFA and ill be a UFA after that

no doubt. I just see a lot of people suggesting what they think is fair but if im the Capitals im using the most recent Debrincat trade BUT if im the Ducks im asking for Leonard. Capitals are the team in a rush to get good

Yeah i think the biggest issue for most Capital fans.... we want to be good but to get good players you need to move young players with high upside. If im a team with an elite level talent player im asking for Leonard

Re-Tool not Re-Build
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>qc14</b></div><div>I mean it's a very prime Backstrom/Guentzel from this year conversation. Obviously it helps that those players and Marner have played with other elite players. That being said, a whole lot of other guys have played a ton of minutes with prime Ovi/Crosby/Matthews and put up nowhere close to the numbers Marner does.
12x8 is a fair contract for a guy with the 7th most points over the last 5 years who would be signing for his age 28-36 seasons. If the Caps are good enough in 6-8 years that the tail end of it is a big hindrance, then you're doing something right and that's a great problem to have.</div></div>
better example is Hyman imo. Guentzel is player with Aho who is elite in his own right. Marner again is going to be fantastic but is he 104 points good playing with Strome? idk

not really taking a shot at Ovechkin but Matthews at 26 is a way better player than Ovi at 38. now if we had a time machine and could get 26 year old Ovi i would do this trade all day
