Edmonton Oilers signed Darnell Nurse (2 Years / $5,600,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Random2152</b></div><div>When you look at this contract and compare to the Morrissey contract it really starts to look bad.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Trickster</b></div><div>Walking him straight to UFA.
Failure.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks_Hawkey</b></div><div>This signing screams Nurse wants to test free-agency ASAP. I bet Oilers offered something along the lines of the Morrisey contract 8yrs @ 6.25 AAV more or less. Seems Nurse probably insisted for only 2 years so he took a slight discount.</div></div>
TWO-YEAR TERM FOR NURSE WILL WALK HIM TO UFA BUT THE GOAL FOR NURSE AND EDM IS TO, IDEALLY, DO A LONG-TERM EXTENSION IN THE SUMMER OF 2021. THE SHORT TERM DEAL GETS EDM OVER SOME SALARY CAP RESTRAINTS NEXT SEASON.

I think it might be a little heavy handed to insist that we are only a few pieces away from competing. This team is much more of a mess then hawks fans care to admit.

As for cat, right now I boil it down to the coach. Colliton genuinely believes a team with a crap defense can play defensive hockey. Cat only benefits from the run and gun.</div></div>This ^^. That style of play is best way for sure. Sure sucks to blow 2-0 leads, regardless of situation. This team is about this close of needing a total rebuild...nope, they are there already!

You have no idea how much it sucks being one of the only hawks fans who thinks long term instead of “hey Kane and toews still rock, so you can’t rebuild.” My hawks are absolutely delusional if they think the current way playing hockey means they can compete. I’m begging them at this to rebuild for 3-5 years so we can thrive for the next 15 after.

With trots as his coach and barzal as his center, yes he can! Absolutely! In Chicago though, i know strome and him are besties, but strome doesn’t influence a game like barzal does. Also, trotz can get the very best out of the cat. My only worry is cat’s work rate, as he does get lazy occasionally.

Lehner would be a short-term gamble for Edmonton, at best. Unless Holland can shed a few over-priced contracts that extend into next season (Kris Russell, Alex Chiasson, James Neal) there is no way Lehner stays.
I doubt Edmonton has any interest in re-visiting Caggiula. I think they will accept that trading him away for Manning was a bone-head move, and will leave it at that.
Holland will not make this trade.

Chicago isn't going anywhere anymore so who cares if they start blowing things up. Wouldn't surprise me if Toews and Kane waive their NMC and move on in the very near future!! It may be another 49 year drought but it was nice for that beautiful 6 year run!!!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DDoverChucky</b></div><div>It seems that they don't have the cap space to sign him to long-term deal. They wouldn't agree to this unless they knew he is extending after this contract. The price tag of top four defensemen has gone up in recent years, so it's not fair to compare it to other bargain deals out there.</div></div>
Then they should have done a one year 5 million dollar deal and looked to trade him as an RFA.
If the Leafs made this deal there would be no yes votes lol.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Canucks_Hawkey</b></div><div>What do you think he'd fetch on the open market?</div></div>
If it was a first round itd have to be at least in the teens. While he hasnt done a whole lot this year, he hit 40 goals last year in his age 21 season. Lotta value in that. Lets take carolina for example, because they are stacked in the pipeline and have 2 first rounders to work with. I could see a trade maybe being the higher of their two 1sts plus Suzuki, something similar to that

No chance we trade debrincat for a contender's 1st round pick. If McDavid got him he'd probably never miss the net again and theyd be able to do something in the playoffs, making it a high 20s pick. Nope nope nope

Offseason and dealing with contracts
Saad isn't getting a 1st round pick, especially in this upcoming draft.
You're gonna have to pay Montreal something if you want them to take a cap dump for you. Teams don't just bail you out for free cause you want them too.
Better be careful on that Seabrook retirement deal. There might be recapture penalties on it. Best to just keep him on LTIR for cap relief

Nylander Has Been Scratched For Three Straight Games
I did not expect him to be scratched for three games, considering we are playing Quenneville, Sikura and Highmore over him, all who are call ups. I do think Nylander gets in next game on the 4th line, taking Highmore's spot. It would be nice to have a little offensive ability on the 4th line. Smith and Kampf can grind it out fairly well but need someone to finish for the work they put in.
This trade has been beyond disappointing. I was a huge fan of Joki and it hurt to see him traded like that. Joki has been playing over seasoned d men in Buffalo while Nylander can't even make the lineup over call ups. Nylander's upside is there. Hopefully he can blossom in the next few years.

Nylander Has Been Scratched For Three Straight Games
Good post. I've been vocal about the exact same thing. There's zero shame in be productive on the 4th line. IN FACT, that's what playoff teams need. Production on the bottom pair. I'd do exactly as you're saying. I don't mind the healthy scratch, but I wouldn't keep him on the bench too much longer.
***EDIT*** worst trade of Bowman's career IMO. What's the #1 thing the Hawks need. A 2-way RD on a cap friendly deal...wonder where we could get one of those...
