Leafs Prospects, Draft Picks and More
Since we have known that the Leafs will pick at 23, I have come to the conclusion that we <em>need</em> to draft Charlie Elick. Really wanted Hage, but I doubt he'll be available. Elick is a guy who would be a complete game changer for us. Long term, physical 2RD. Clears the net super well and has a good point shot (granted you won't be relying on him for significant offensive output).
Elick is him

Vorobyov turned 27 on January 5, 2024. But <a href="https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/813310">Vorobyov's rights were traded </a> on March 6th as part of Hanifin deal (after he turned 27). I believe the rule on that is their rights expire on the June 30th after their 27th birthday

Leafs 2023 2024 Season Discussion Part 7 - Shambles
I'm going to give my little rant.
Rielly - The hate for him here is unfair IMO. He had 3 points in 7 games and was a +2. It was clear that he didn't trust Boosh the way he did Schenn. Last year on the rushes her would continue forward and press after the initial chance. This year he's always curl back and play defence first. In a series where the team was -4 its hard to take criticism against a D who was +2 seriously. We've know for a while Rielly isn't a true #1 and he isn't a PP QB. I think the hate comes from the fact that the PP was so bad. For reference McAvoy had 5 points and a 0 +/-. So I'm starting by saying Rielly is exactly who anyone reasonable through he was. He's the Leafs #1 but not a star #1. (BTW on the last play he isn't at fault at all, as someone who played D that isn't his fault in any way, even Bieksa said it).
Marner - HAS TO GO. Horrible in every way. He is one of two people to blame for the OT goal but also the entire season has been poor from him.
Nylander - As always the best of the core 4 in the playoffs.
Tavares - He's aging but he tried, he wins faceoffs and won most of his battles in Game 7, came up clutch at key times. Hard to criticize but the contract obviously sucks.
Matthews - Great player but they need to find a way to play the same defensive style even when he's on.
McCabe - Awesome.
Knies - Awesome
Lili/Sammy - Time to move on
Overall I think the summer needs to start with Shannahan gone (need a real new voice not just a puppet in Tre), Keefe and all assistants gone, Marner/Lili traded and Sammy walks. After that I think that there are a few directions the team can go but this is where it needs to start.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CameronSquires</b></div><div>I was a Woll believer from the start, I liked his reg season play except for a couple outlier games, just showing that he can do both reg season and playoffs is huge.
I liked his quote the other day 'I'm having the time of my life out there'</div></div>
He's got the mindset you need for a goalie and he doesn't let in stinkers in the playoffs. 5 starts now and not 1 bad goal. And they have all been elimination games.

Russian uses the Cyrillic alphabet so depending on if you use the Russian or Anglicized version of the name, it’ll be spelled different

This Summer - No Marner
That's a bad trade for Utah. Taking on all that additional cap for 20 points more a season....and Utah doesn't have Matthews/Nylander/Tavares helping Marner with his points.

Let's go! Grebyonkin is (in my opinion) the Leafs best prospect. This kid does it all. He was super successful in the KHL despite having an ever-changing role, and constantly looked incredible. Greb is a warrior and a KHL champion.
Such a good prospect and a complete steal for the Leafs in the later stages of the draft. I cannot wait to see him in North America, he is going to turn a lot of heads. Remember the name

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CameronSquires</b></div><div>I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
I love Grebyonkin, he is looking to be such a steal for a 5th rounder, winning KHL rookie of the year last year.
I have high hopes for him
Interesting that they signed him for this year, is it to get him money for this year and burn a year?</div></div>
Yeah the timing must have to do with his bonus and the Leafs getting it under this year's cap instead of next years. That part is always confusing.
I had been waiting on this for quite awhile in one of my deep fantasy dynasty leagues but I cut bait when it didn't happen in time for my roster cutoff (since his KHL season was extended for the playoffs/championship).
Good signing (as in: he is coming to NA) so there can't be any complaints about it; there will be some roster spots at F between NHL/AHL that he can compete for

This 3rd period could go 1 of 2 ways:
1. Make a 3-goal comeback like Game 4 last year
2. Re-enact 2013 (but hopefully win in Game 7 OT this time)
