<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>P.S. Don't buy into the idiotic "this year's draft is extremely weak" canard. That's a conflation of several comments made at the beginning of the year (before all the leagues that eventually resumed play did so) to the effect that "this is a tough draft to handicap" or "there aren't any clear choices for the top three places in this draft." People who don't know any better misunderstood that to mean that it's a weak draft year. Not so.
Was 2015 a "weak draft"? Boston had pick nos. 13 (Jakub Zboril), 14 (Jake DeBrusk) and 15 (Zack Senyshyn) in succession. For them it was a weak draft. It wasn't for the Islanders, who took Mathew Barzal immediately after at #16 and Anthony Beauvillier at #28. And I don't think that Ottawa (Thomas Chabot) or Washington (Ilya Samsonov) or Vancouver (Brock Boeser) think it was a weak draft, either.
Look back at the drafts from 2011 through 2017 (more recent draft years are too early to judge). About half the first-round picks in each draft have turned out pretty well. So as a philosophical matter, I don't think that there IS such a thing as a "weak draft," because generally each team gets an average of one first-round pick every year and it all depends upon how well you scout and select.</div></div>
From the stuff i've been reading/hearing it's not that deep. Not saying you can't find value.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>I assume that you meant to have a question mark there.
Yes, even if he signs. Jones' top-level effectiveness is unlikely to be more than 6 years. Dach looks to be a franchise cornerstone for 10 years or more, like Kane and Toews. Mitchell is a useful RD (I wish I could have him on the Ducks!) and the first could also be a long-term asset equal to Jones' expected on-ice life.</div></div>
Regardless if we trade Jones now or at the trade deadline..........we are getting a 1st rounder and probably a good prospect. Plus this years draft is extremely weak. We shall see.

Stan should counter with Strome and Zadorov for Jones and all three 1sts in the 2021 draft. CBJ has zero leverage here. Seth Jones has said he's out. He's not staying in Columbus. The clock is ticking for Jarmo. Make sure you get what you can. It won't be Dach as Bowman has said Dach and Debrincat are untouchable. He's said that...so forget anything a 31 thoughts podcast says.</div></div>

Sure we do. We still have the player under contract and any team can have him for entire season. Plus the opportunity to resign him. I'd call that leverage. Savard got 1st round pick at the trade deadline. What do you think Jones will get for an entire season regardless if he signs with the team? I'd assume someone is willing to pay for that. Also Chicago isn't a playoff team so if they are serious about trading for him I'd hope they also sign him. That's a big win if he's their guy.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Meeqs</b></div><div>Everyone keeps posting that meme A Portz article comparing him to Erik Karlsson in his prime.
I think that there are teams out there who would pay big time to get Jones, COL is not one of those teams as they can't keep him long term.
Also if you are CBJ you should avoid talking to COL as Sakic will find a way to get him for like Compher, Graves and a 3rd.
Any deal in which Col massively loses a trade for a short term asset isn't realistic</div></div>
I definitely don't think he's Karlsson. Not even close. But out of all the teams interested in the article, I think Colorado makes the most sense. Even if it's short term. You guys/They are close to winning one but i think a guy like Jones for a full year could really help.

They did absolutely give up 1 large lead and a couple other 1 goal leads, for that, I can believe you read press clippings, maybe even watched some highlights.</div></div>
I get it Smith had a great first 2 games and regular season but the guy is 39 years old. He's not the future. He wasn't good for you guys the season before. Nurse had 1 point in the series. Imagine Nurse and Jones playing together.

tbh even if it is a trade and sign deal it’s still an overpay</div></div>
I think at some point in time you guys have to make a move like this. You don't have the D to carry through the playoffs and there isn't any good free agents. You hadn't made the "playoffs" for 3 years now get bounced in 4 games. Obviously something is wrong.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SadlyAnOilFan</b></div><div>Team has no balance? Perhaps, but not because of the defence. It’s a forward depth issue. Teams with bad defence don’t lose tight, 1 goal games against the high octane Winnipeg jets. Edmonton average 1 goal against for every 25 minutes of play, 2.4 GA/60 minutes. And if you take away that 3:03 period in game 3 where the Oilers **** their pants (more because of young defencemen than bad ones) it’s only 1 GA for every 33 minutes.
The team is not that far off, and if you actually watched the games, you would have seen that. They played some excellent hockey and were just extremely unlucky to lose all of those games. Take away 4 bounces at the right times from the jets and give them to the Oilers, and Edmonton would be up 4-0. But it just wasn’t to be.
A team 4 bounces away from Winning a series doesn’t give up 4 years of 1st round picks for two players with 1 year of contract left. Honestly, what are you thinking?</div></div>
I watched the games. I saw a young team without a number 1 dman and no solid goaltending. They gave up bad leads and have a team based around 2 players. IMO i find it not to be balanced. I personally think they are very close too but they have a lot of offseason work to do. Lots of UFA and RFA to deal with. Not a lot of free agents out there either.

Oh we aren't in denial like you guys. EDM needs to do something about their D to balance out their team. This might not be the right trade but it's something they need to do IMO. Jones can eat up 25 minutes a night and help the young guys develop.
