Cmon Everybody Do the Seguin Shuffle
A trade like this is made because an organization needs a huge shakeup. I see Dallas needing that. Does Washington?
I think the third best player in this deal is Faksa so benefit Washington. Kuznetsov is younger benefit Dallas. Kuznetsov's contract is way better benefit Dallas. Don't feel confident commenting on the rest of the pieces. But j think this probably is a better trade for Dallas. But again the big question is does Washington want to do something as drastic as this?
(It's probably also stupid as Backstrom is a UFA in 1 year I think and if resigned is gonna want 10+ million. That would look better with kuznetsov's 7 and change than Seguins 10ish for the top 2 C's)

Potentially in the off-season though, dependent on if they think necas can step in next season at center. More than likely he will start at wing though

Tarasenko has more goals, more assists and more points in fewer games.</div></div>
It's probably something meaningful like during even strength time in the 2nd period of home games... Vrana is outscoring Tarasenko this year. Maybe in bars in metro DC Vrana is outscoring Tarasenko this year?
But dude, don't you see the direct correlation between a Vrana/Tarasenko trade and the Forsberg/Erat trade? I mean, they are identical. How do you not see that?

Tarasenko for the all russian line
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Eli</b></div><div>How refreshing. A Penguins fan chiming in on a Caps post to tell us to overpay for whoever we want. Haven't seen that in ten minutes.
Have you seen Tarasenko play at 31, and compared him to Vrana at 26, Burakovsky at 27, and whoever gets drafted with that pick? Because that's how this trade will be judged, and it will be a loss without even needing to remember back to this year and next year when Niskanen is a solid shutdown defenseman who puts up 20 to 30 points.</div></div>
With the way you chat up Burakovsky all the time, I don't think that you have actually seen Burakovsky play this year, much less 4 years from now... you just look at advanced stats until you find something that you can use as sole proof that player A is better than player B.
If you want good players in return, you need to give up good players/assets.
But by your logic... shouldn't the Caps trade Ovechkin now for a 1st? Afterall, when the player picked with that 1st is 28, and Ovechkin is 43... which player will look better? According to you, that is how that trade will be judged.

Having actually watched the players involved, not just looking at stat lines as if they spelt out everything that you need in order to gauge the value of a trade... this is the closest thing to a real trade for Tarasenko to come to the Caps that I have seen on here.

Barber Deserves A Call Up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BetterBrianMaclellan</b></div><div>i think they might be waiting on barber because like you said, they would have to make a little cap space for him, but also he is not waiver exempt so once they call him up, they gotta be pretty confident that he can stay up or else risk losing him on waivers. I think the caps are happy with their 4th line rotation, but I def believe barber is ready for some extended time. What more could he do to prove it?</div></div>
He could sneak into Nashville tonight and crack Filip Forsberg's knees with a lead pipe....then convince Nashville to trade for DSP and Burakovsky.

Yup. Couldn't hurt to give him some ice time and at least it is an audition...or get a 4th rounder for DSP, a 5th rounder for Jaskin, a half-eaten club sandwich for Andre NoHustle-o-kovsky and you've got plenty of roster space.

Pettersson Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BetterBrianMaclellan</b></div><div>i think there is a lot in the trade that would suggest neither team should do it. I do think it's actually a pretty fair trade, but nonetheless. Kuzy is russian and has great chemistry with all the russian players on the team. Kuzy is also proven as an 80 point guy and still has some room to grow. There is no uncertainty with his game or potential for a drop off with. He's a 1st line center and is well adapted to the style of hockey that is being played in the NHL right now. Pettersson looks incredible, don't get me wrong, but players do drop off and he just doesn't have as much proof that he will continue this. For those reasons, the caps would not want to do this trade.
Now for Vancouver, they see Petey as a guy who can keep up this pace and even get much better. They believe he will be a generational talent and will be a franchise transforming player. Getting Kuzy would give them a tried and true #1 center, but I don't think they have any doubt with Petersson. They believe that Petersson could be a way better player in his prime than Kuzy in his prime (which is a reasonable belief). For those reasons, they prob would believe they shouldn't do it.
I will say that Kuzy is on a very reasonable contract and for good term.
I think the value is fair, but not sure if either team would even do it.</div></div>
I get what you’re saying, but ehhh it would be a great move for the future. I know Kuzzy isn’t old and has a lot of good hockey ahead of him, but Petterson really looks like he could be an elite talent for 15 years. Buddy dominated the Swedish league and set rookie records. Put it this way, I would HAPPILY do Malkin+ to acquire petterson. (Would never happen I’m just saying). Even though that would hurt chemistry and may take pit out of contention this year; it would set up our future BEAUTIFULLY. Plus as someone said he’s got 3 years of an ELC left.

Lets Get Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>Of course not but now we are talking about speculation and throwing reality out the window.
Here are the only 3 facts that we actually know are real.
Nylander wants a long term deal to play with the leafs.
The Leafs want Nylander signed long term.
Nylander hasn't signed a contract yet.
So only reasonable conclusion based off the information that is actually known is that negotiations are ongoing and working towards what both parties want. Until one side says otherwise, every other "report" is 100% guess work born out of the need to get clicks (media debate) or hope from fans who want to see this player on their team.</div></div>
I’ll start by saying I fully believe Toronto will sign Nylander, or trade him. But speculation and fictitious trades are the entire point of these AGMs.
In reality, just about every player in this situation will tell media and the fans “Of course I want to stay with [enter team here]” and “I love it here, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else”. My memory isn’t the best but I can’t think of a single player that’s said “Nah, screw this team. I want out”. We as fans and the media don’t know what players and management are actually doing behind the scenes. We get reports that contract talks are ongoing and that it’s only a matter of time, but that's not 100% the truth every time.

Lets Get Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LoganOllivier</b></div><div>I think you'd have to give up about 3 1st round picks for anyone to take that awful Wilson contract off your hands. LOL
Also TO would totally match that offer sheet. To successfully offer sheet Nylander, you'll be paying him over 8.5 million a year on a minimum 6 year deal. That would cost 4 1st rounders, which is why it just won't happen.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BetterBrianMaclellan</b></div><div>could not be more false... they are offering him 6. Nylander's ask is around 7. So anything north of 7 is actually well out of the leafs ability</div></div>
<em>Take what you want, as these words come from a Sens fan. </em>Brian makes a good point. Dubas and Leaf fans can say they can and will sign the trio and keep Tavares but keep in mind that even if you sign trio to long-term deals, you also need depth players that can keep the puck out of your net. That's hard to find when you have 70% of your cap in 4 forwards and 4 defencemen. A number of teams could offer 8m and the Leafs would be in a tough spot.

Nylander pickup is interesting, starting a Swedish duo with Backstrom. Wilson trade seems a bit one sided. I could see Wilson and a second for Merkley or a swap of seconds but I don't think Wilson is a high value asset to get a prospect and a first.

Buffalo Sabres signed Sam Reinhart (2 Years / $3,650,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ProfessorFuzzymuffins</b></div><div>Good idea for all sides to give him a bridge contract. I don't think he's reached his full potential yet.</div></div>
That being said, I think BUF blew this opportunity to lock him up for at ;least 5 years at a very reasonable rate. If he puts up 60+ points per season now, and he probably will while playing w/ Eichel, his next contract will be much more costly for BUF. He probably would've signed for 5 years at around the same amount.
