Playoff runs are about momentum. A good in season goalie is a good goalie in the playoffs. Adin hill had terrible numbers before going to Vegas, but lit it up behind their defence and carried it into the playoffs.</div></div>
And Bob was awful and carried the Panthers.
Boston set records and lost with two elite goalies from the reg season.
Role with Sammy and Woll trade for top four D

Mixing it up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dr_Invictus</b></div><div>Markstrom is 3rd in the league for goals saved above expected. Saros is 70th. Samsanov 88th, Woll, 19th, Jones 20th.
https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm
Markstrom's last year was bad, but that was an anomaly in an otherwise very consistent career. Calgary would be in a lotto position this year if it wasn't for him. His sv% and GAA would be top of the league if it wasn't for our d core hanging him out to dry in the first 15 games this year. Considering how many goalies Toronto has gone through, stability in net should be a top priority.
Also, the ask isn't high here considering he isn't a UFA.</div></div>
Playoff goaltending has been the Leafs issue.

Mixing it up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>Fair point. I too would go after Saros first but they have made it known that the offer would have to be one they couldn't refuse and this offer would not do it.
Stats don't always tell the whole story and most everyone should know that. 2021-22 where he played 63 games and went 37-15-9 with a .922 sv% and 9 shutouts. Why are we not talking about that when we mention his stats? Teams have up and down years, they could have injuries that brought the whole team game down. Remember he was on a bad Canucks and Flames team. I think he still has a lot more to give and any well built team would benefit from having him on it.</div></div>
Because Leafs have had issues with goalie that struggle in the playoffs. Regular season Jack Campbell and Samsonov are very different from playoff Jack and Sammy.
Markstrom was not very good for the flames and Toronto media and fans would destroy him.
Giving up our first and only true prospect for some who is only a marginal upgrade wont work.
Use Cowboy and 1st and upgrade the D and get MAF as insurance.

Mixing it up
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Cory</b></div><div>As an outsider who doesn't cheer for either team. I am curious to why Toronto would decline this? Reaves and Samsonov are not very good and in my mind would be viewed as cap dumps. Cowan is a good prospect but I think quite worth it for a goalie like Markstrom with term and good value. The 1st is probably going to be a 25-32 pick and most professionals call this a very bad draft class if you are picking anything outside of 10.
I would make this deal every time it was proposed to me. If Toronto wants a big name, they are going to have to part with Knies or Cowan. Teams are just not lined up to help Toronto out for nothing in return.</div></div>
Sammy is off the books after this season and Reaves can be buried for almost nothing.
When was the last time a goalie went for a 1st and top prospect?
13-13 in the playoffs and .911 sv%
Rather look into Saros

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MTLaveragefan</b></div><div>It's a first to take Samsonov's cap AND to send Allen over.
Allen is worth a 3rd max.</div></div>
Sammy is off the books at the end of the year and his cap hit is less than Allen who also has one year left.
The Leafs would rather roll with Sammy, Woll and Jones and keep the 1st and save Allens cap hit next season.
Allen may get the Habs a 3rd but it will be with retention

Added Timmins for cap reasons. Im sure we could dump him elsewhere but it was easier this way

Can a Matt Murray buy out work this way
only team that can buyout Murray now is the Leafs and only if one of their players file for arbitration.
So say Sammy files for arbitration that would open a 48hr window after they settle for a buyout.
The player must have been on the team at the last season tdl for him to be eligible for the buyout l

So the Flyers retain 3.75 for 3 years 11.25mil for a 6th and Nash retains 4mil for 2 years 8mil for a ufa
So the cost of retention on 12-16mil for 4 is??
The player alone should get a 1st ++

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>nchest</b></div><div>I could live with that Marner contract, doesn't take him to UFA and he is under $9m.
But please no Marincin, would rather Harpour or Borgman</div></div>
I agree that i could live with the term but not crazy paying him more than Aho on shorter term. I could see if it was structured like Timo Meier and his last year was higher pay making his QO higher. 3yrs 8mil 6,6,12 and that would make his QO 12Mil or roughly 9x4
I know it wont happen but i would just like to see this over with!

little moves
I will take 1 year risk on a guy that has played well with our 1D in the past over a guy that wants out and makes the same amount of money over but for 5 more years!!!
Bracco could be switched but all insiders have been saying we need a sweetener and with the current signings i would make him expandable. Many teams have his level of player in their systems he just happens to be our best and at a position we are at a strength.
