San Jose Sharks signed Tomas Hertl (8 Years / $8,137,500 AAV)
I mean the contract itself is fine but what are the sharks doing? This team isn't good enough and they keep locking older guys up long term

If they have the space they should pay Vrana long term now. Kid is a beast. If they bridge him he'll come out the other side asking for $6M-$7M. Go long term now at $4.5M-$5M.

Kovalchuk + BUF, WSH, NYI
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArlingtonCaps</b></div><div>It is. I’ll stand by my take. 1st for Grub is fine, though I’m guessing we’ll get pick 12 from NYI. So that’s less value there.
Im also not swapping Tage Thompson straight up for Burakovsky. Especially given my point above.</div></div>
I hear ya. Gruby should get a pick in the teens, and the Isles def could use a goalie. I feel like we're all still waiting for Burakovsky to break out so his value is hard to gauge, but regardless, the Blues moving right-shot RW/C for left-shot LW doesn't make sense to me. Until Thomas and Kyrou join the fun, our entire top 9 is left handed, and it shows on PP and half the faceoffs... just doesn't seem like a good fit.

2018-9 Caps, $82M cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>timmyv38</b></div><div>All the skills except being able to score on open shots. He hasn't lived up to the hype and isn't worth $3M. If he's still with the Caps, we'll see another 30-40 point season.</div></div>
He has certainly lived up to the hype: fast, highly skilled, fantastic vision that creates scoring chances. Taking that every day of the week for $3M. He'll hit 50+ point this season if he stays healthy, which it sounds like he will. Said 2 injuries were avoidable if the gloves had better protection so he's talking to CCM about that. Also seeing a sports psychologist to help with the consistency issues.

O my gosh people stop throwing Buraovsky away for nothing! The kid is a young top6 player! You're trading him away for a 3rd!? You're seriously keeping Orpik over him?! You guys are nuts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeyfanatic05</b></div><div>Weren't capitals fans calling for Trotz's head for years?</div></div>
Yes, and rightfully so, before this playoff run he repeatedly scratched younger and faster players for old slow veterans even tho Pittsburgh had won the last two years with youth and speed. Then he finally put together a good lineup for game 3 against Columbus and stuck with it the rest of the playoffs.

Here Here! I'm a Blackhawks fan and 100% agree with these sentiments. It was an incredible series to watch. I didn't have a horse in the race, but it felt like I had two horses in the race. Great Hockey! Couldn't be happier for you guys!

Best defenseman in the playoffs? Or best playoff defenseman?
CorsiFor%: 46.48%
Scoring Chances%: 47.80%
High Danger Chances%: 40.50%
Horrific horrific stats. O and he does this with 54.55% starts in the offensive zone. So not only is he getting favorable starts, he doing absolutely terrible at it. Only reason he looks good is because he has the 2nd highest PDO on the team with 106.9, he's been incredibly lucky. Holtby has been bailing him out with a .955sv% behind him, again 2nd best on the team. He's such a bad defensemen, but I hope some team is stupid enough to look at shot blocks and hits as something important and trades for him.

Did... did you just sign Alex Chiasson to a $5.25M contract? And DSP to a $2.55M contract? They are both 4th liners that the Caps don't need. They 'd both cost less than $1M!

Kovey = Domination
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ArlingtonCaps</b></div><div>True. I'm really interested to see how Bowey develops, as a big step up next year could really help this team long term from a planning perspective. Sidenote - you nailed the $ amounts and term on the UFA & RFA signings. Would love to see Kempny back for a year or two, (wouldn't mind Jerabek either as a 7D). Really hope we throw 5 years at Tom (little worried about him as he gets towards 30 with how he's thrown his body around). I really hope GMBM makes an effort to extend Vrana preemptively this offseason as well. Locking him in at 4/5 years ~$3 - $3.5mm would be huge for future roster planning.</div></div>
Agree with all of that 100%! Bowey developing into a 2nd pair dman would be perfect for us. Think Hobbs could do it to but he's years away from that.
I'm hoping Kempny isn't pricing himself out of Washington. He's been amazing for us. Love Jerabek too. If he'll take less than $1M i'm all for it.
That's why I kept Wilson at 6 years, because like you said, the way he plays his body could decline quicker than most. I'm hoping they sign Vrana 8 year $4M w/o going into a bridge deal. If they do, he could come out of it getting $6M+.

I know how it feels...
Caps pass on the CAR trade. They need good picks desperately. They'll trade Grubauer for a 1st or two 2nds.
Wilson won't get that much this summer. Probably around $3.5M. He'll be worth $5M the summer after when he gets PP time and is putting up 50 points. But Caps need to lock him up now at a low cap hit.

Tavares stays, but there's an overhaul. (Divisional trades with CBJ and WSH)
The 1st round pick being a top 10 pick is what makes this the most appetizing to a Caps fan. Bellows is a great piece, but when we'd be adding two top prospects into an organization that has 0 high end forward prospects, it's a huge step. Again, maybe Vande Sompel can get swapped out with a pick or something, just because the Capitals have similar defensemen in the minors, and may want to bring back Kempny or Jerabek (so there'd be a pretty nice surplus of third pairing defensemen). But it's certainly something the Caps consider. Only reason they wouldn't take it is the divisional issue.
