One More Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AudioCats</b></div><div>Welp.... I see you have some opinions based on those extensions and lines.
Cozens should get that if he continues to improve, and that'd be great.
Tage at 5.75? Either you think he's in for a sharp regression, or that goals don't factor into $$$? He nearly potted 40, and unless he plummets back to a 30pt guy, I don't see why his agent takes that contract. All other centermen who exceeded 35 goals last season are making 8m+, except for Hintz who's the same age, and Lindholm + Nelson who are on daylight-robbery contracts.</div></div>
I think Thompson was a product of the line combination last year with Skinner having a great bounce back year and Tuck finding his skates in a new team he wants to play for. Skinner has never been capable of stringing two good years together and without his point production, I don't see Tage repeating the 40 goal production. I could be completely wrong and would be very happy if I am, but I'm skeptical of that one stellar year. Give me a second year at 40 goals and the cap hit goes up to the $7MM+ mark. Either way, Tage will be a great Sabre and they should keep him around if they can.

Never just fill current roster spots given injuries are a real thing, most players need time off and having too much at any position generates trade potential to fill out other spots that might not be the strongest.

Portillo is a crap shoot. We don't really know. It's understood that Buffalo would get a 2nd for Johnson, but it would be better to get that pick in 2023 which is not likely if he sits out until his eligibility is up with Buffalo. The Sabres need to draft three to four good defensive prospects to fill out the already stacked pool they have. It would be better to get those all selected in 2023 to fast-track the development to move forward.

Johnson is going back for his last year of collegiate eligibility which will lead him into the final few months of Buffalo's ownership of his rights. After that season, he will only have to wait a few months for his rights to expire with Buffalo to have the ability to sign with any team he wants. Adams has stopped talking about both Johnson and Portillo give that both have declined offers. It would make more sense to trade them to teams they will want to play for and get picks in return while the Sabres can and have that right as opposed to waiting and loosing them for nothing.

Buffalo would be happy to take two 1st in 2023. I'd package all three of those 1st to however gets the 1OA and add Bedard to the already stacked talent pool.

You might be surprised. As one who knows several in the Tkachuk family, they are mostly in the North East. There is a history of hatred with the Bruins even though Keith was born in the Boston area. This is partially why Brady was happy to sign long term with Ottawa. Most of the extended family live in New Hampshire and Maine which is not that far from Buffalo.

Opening Night Roster
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rktkt66</b></div><div>Like the failed trade with Ottawa that would have netted the 7th overall pick, I don't see the dream scenario of the JVR+1st rumor happening - especially with the Flyers right now at only $3M cap space left. If Gaudreau is seeking $10M+ as rumored, even if the Flyers dump JVR, they'd be right at the cap by adding him. But, heck, I'll take their 23' 1st anyday if they gift it to Buffalo for JVR's cap dump. Sabres would probably retain 50% on JVR and try to turn around and deal him elsewhere for a lower pick - they sure don't want to have him eat a roster spot that Quinn and Peterka should get.</div></div>
100% agree with the trade, then trade away for two additional picks in 2023. I don't see any point in keeping JVR either, but it would be a good move if it is available to Buffalo. JVR only has $4M remaining to be paid of the $7M AAV cap hit. The base is $5M and $1M of that has already been paid as a bonus.

I don't think Kevin Adams is done yet. I think we have a slight chance of seeing James van Riemsdyk being traded over from Philly with a 1st round pick in 2023. Johnny G is still in the works for the Flyers and they will need to move that cap space. Buffalo is one of three potential trade partners to get that done.

Reaching the Cap Floor
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Sabresguy1987</b></div><div>Dont you dare resign anyone else on this team last year, time to grow, not compete for bedard</div></div>
Adams just signed Vinny H and has said all along that the team will look the same at the start of this season. He needs to sign defense and will likely pay those who were already in Buffalo to keep the same positive vibe for the kids to continue development. I'd look for them to be very close to competing for a playoff spot this year but missing one more time. It will all be better in the end if he sticks to the plan and builds a killer pipeline of young talent.

Long Term Outlook with UFA signings through 2025
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rktkt66</b></div><div>I applaud the level-headed approach of mapping out the homegrown approach (as that does seem the way Adams and Sabres intend to build their roster now and in the future) but, seeing as your lineup is for the 2024-25 season, I do question:
- Okposo, for all of his leadership qualities, still playing in 3 years - he's 34 now with a history of health issues. My gut feeling is he finishes out his contract this coming season, plays 1 more after on a 1-year extension and then retires.
- Unless there's another pandemic in 3 years, the taxi squad won't exist.
- Mittelstadt is still an uproven enigma at this point but he doesn't seem destined to still be around in 3 years - even moreso if he can't make the roster and be a taxi squad player.
- Hard to also see Ruotsalainen (who's up in the air this summer if he'll get the kind of extension he'd want or if Granato will even give him a chance vs being AHL bound again) or Fitzgerald being in the organization in 3 years.
- Bryson seems likely to become a trade chip at some point - which would be sooner than 3 years if Johnson does actually sign with Buffalo before next year.
- It'd be a novel concept and all 3 are still likely to be in the organization in 3 years but the odds of Skinner-Thompson-Tuch still being on same line would be very rare.
- Purely speculation based on his limited stint in NHL thus far but if Samuelsson plays this coming season like he did last season, he's going to warrant a new deal closer to $4M than the $2.5M bridge deal you suggested.
- Also just a gut feeling but I suspect Krebs will be on either the 1st or 2nd line in 3 years and bigger point producer (albeit heavier on the assists than in goals) than many give him credit for being capable of.</div></div>
I don't disagree with any of your points. I think they all make sense. I think the most obvious is Okposo, that was clearly an oversight on my part. Buffalo is going to need a winger with some grit and size to replace what Okposo brings to the table for that fourth line. I would love to see Samuelsson continue his growth trend and get a better deal. The potential of this defense is probably the most exciting part. This forest of fast, 6 foot plus, scoring defensemen could be punishing to most opponents in the very near future if we can get the net in order. The taxi squad is more about showing who's next in the pipeline.
