Ahh yes, the 33 year old 40-50 point player who has <strong><em>never broken 40 points.</em></strong>

Kid came in in the highest stress part of our season this year ajd looked good. He's basically penciled into a top 4 spot for next season now in Detroit as a 21 year old.
He may not be as good as Girard as of today, but the expectation is that he'll be very, very good before too long</div></div>
Well thanks for the insight lol

I'm confused. Girard had 4th most TOI for Avs D in the regular season, and 3rd most so far in the playoffs. You're trading a 25 year old defenseman for a 21 year old defenseman to slot into the exact same spot, and having Detroit pay you multiple picks in the process? Where is the logic in that? Detroit obviously declines, but I really wonder what your thought process was here.

Avs fan. I am one of those that thinks Girard is a great dman. And that he's vastly underrated. However, with that said. Detroit says no. There is no way they do that. Girard is a great top 4. Edvinsson is a potential top pair.

Girard isn't worth anything close to what you think he's worth.

Holl's buyout is less than $1.5M per season, Husso is either LTIR or a slightly overpaid backup, and Kasper is a good prospect. Not worth giving up for a 34 year old goalie.

I can't see Yzerman giving up Kasper for a season of Markström. Especially with the way Cossa played this year.

Come on man.
Red Wings aren't trading Kasper just so they can acquire a 34 year old goalie and rid themselves of 2 cap dumps. LOL

So 2 ahl'ers are nothing.
Trying to build up Maatta is really funny. It's almost like you are trying to tell someone who watched him pay for years that he's got faster as he's got older! That's some magic trick.
He's slow as hell.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>two guys who don't effect the cap in any way that could be send down to the AHL and are no issue at all, is exactly what Maatta is worth. He's a statue who hasn't been able to skate in years. He's slow as hell. No playoff team is renting that. Penguins booted him for it years ago. You are lucky anyone even takes that bad cap hit off your hands.
The nerve of you to complain about it is truly funny. As if he's not a cap dump.
Do you lake the situational awareness to realize the penguins would never bring him back? Or any other team for that matter?</div></div>
Maatta is a solid 3rd pair LHD that will give you about 20 points while being a +/- +10 or above. He's not a statue or a pylon--as evident by the +/- rating. The problem with him is that 3M is expensive for 3rd pair and in Detroit he was replaced by a 1st round pick (#6) that graduated to the NHL--making that 3M really expensive for a healthy scratch. Detroit has a cap crunch coming from having to give Seider and Raymond their 2nd contracts. I don't see the Pens or any other Eastern Conference team as being the trading partners. But Detroit isn't going to want 2 AHL'ers they are going to want a draft pick back (likely late 4th). I could also see them bundling Maatta as part of a larger trade that involved a prospect (or two) and a draft pick for a top 6 winger.
but saying how dare you complain about giving away a 3rd pair NHL d-man for 2 AHL'ers....uh, yeah everyone should point that out.

Bell wouldn’t make the Griffins…
Pool party probably wants to go back to Europe…
Maata as a 5-7 D for one season at 3M is not an issue. Just because Pitt wasn’t a fit doesn’t mean other teams wouldn’t take a flyer on him for no cost. Degrade him all you want, he is an actual NHL D. Don’t be surprised if he gets moved for a mid-low pick.
The nerve of me huh? lol easy slugger. All I did was say this isn’t the return, or most Wing fans would prefer to keep him (due to Holl/Petry being immovable). He is also only one season removed from helping Detroit maximize value for Hronek.
And to answer your question, no it’s not a *lack* of situational awareness about returning to the Pens. I didn’t propose the trade, nor did I ever state he would be a good fit/an answer/etc.

Or that DET fans actually think Maatta is some prize piece and that the penguins would actually want him back.</div></div>
Nothing in that return screams “prize piece” nor are the wings looking for a huge or even good return. A simple 4th will suffice as he has a solid rental contract and is a good bottom pair guy with championship experience.
A LHD is the very last thing Detroit needs, and pool party is what he is.

Probably only way we trade him is in a package for a better player. He should get a roster spot next season and we will need his cheap cap hit.
