<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Zuki9797</b></div><div>why giroux, toews, rielly, batherson</div></div>
Giroux simply because he is an elite two way winger, fantastic shot, elite IQ, great defensive game, including penalty killing, can play any position, good at faceoffs if you want that, top 30 in Goals Above Replacement and Expected Goals Above Replacement the last 3 seasons, consistently puts up solid point metrics while just being overall impactful on both ends.
Toews is simply put good, had a lucky year last year, elite defensive game both at even strength and penalty killing, great transition metrics, great shooter with quality shot Contributions, over point per game this year, will work fantastic with Makar.
Rielly because he’s good and no one can change that, elite skater and passer, improved his defensive game from a liability to an above average player, just below PPG, leads all dmen in Goals Above Replacement so far, consistently fantastic powerplay player.
Batherson is just an extra, but he’s well over PPG so far, elite shot, solid at pretty much everything as in passing, hands, defence (as in above replacement level), the guys play style is very malleable, consistently above average in shooting talent based offence, he could literally fit in everywhere, also helps that he practises with MacKinnon Crosby and Marchand in the off-season. He’s just having a great year. But that could change, given his defensive consistency is choppy.

You know literally nothing about underlying stats, the best way to analyze a player is by both watching them and using their stats which is what they’re doing on the ice, come back to me when you form an actually justified opinion instead of him just being a player you like because he hasn’t been good and won’t change when put in a different scenario

Is this your first year watching hockey or something? If so, welcome! It’s a heck of a league. Doughty’s fine.</div></div>
I can think of several players who had great underlying stats and blossomed in a newer system because they were primed for a breakout, it happens all the time, they had great xGF stats and good GF stats and when they got traded their points took off, but rarely any player goes from terrible underlying and terrible box stats, too a top end player. Also do you see the major issue with your argument? It is entirely based on “what if”, you have no proof that doughty will be good, you only have this scenario that he happens to do good, implying that he needs better players to be good, I don’t want that, I want players who can do good on their own, every single player of which I have listed, can play on their own.

Another thing is cirelli dunn and Gallagher are really underrated, cirelli is a top two way forward in the league and he can play both special teams, and has some of the best penalty plus/minus in the league, drawing penalties on a team this stacked will be great, and he's also a fantastic skater with solid passing and shooting, he can do pretty much everything, you can place him anywhere on the ice and he will do good. Dunn is just amazing all around and likely hasn't reached his prime yet as he seems to be following the same route as other franchise dmen, he's an elite puck mover, great defensively and offensively, solid penalty plus/minus, great shot, takes tons of shots, and plays both special teams, he can play with anyone, which is why I have him as an extra, and Gallagher is one of if not the best playdriver in the league, he brings consistent effort with an aggressive physicality which I really like, he has an above average defensive impact and is a fringe elite offensive player, he takes tons of shots and plays in the lower slot very well, which is why I have him with huberdeau and mcdavid who are cycle players and could use their elite shooting talent to score on a screen or use their passing ability to give it to Gallagher to take tons of shots, he's also a pretty damn good exiter, so he can win battles, and make a pass to mcdavid or exit himself.

I did value chabot and rielly but they are both inconsistent and are not near as valuable as some of the other right handed d like makar and ekblad, reilly had one of the best seasons by a dmen in the last decade and a half but he isn't nearly as good in the surrounding seasons

Although I do like Formenton as a prospect!! I wish the Pens would have gotten him and the 2nd for Murray. Or S.Pinto and the 2nd.
We just had absolutely no leverage though. We couldn’t keep both, with the expansion draft coming up and Jarry needing a new contract. And all the FA goalies on the market this year. And the Flat-cap that none saw coming!! And him making 6.25M and coming off a below average season. His value was as low as it has ever been and ever will be!!
You guys are gonna like Murray. I like him on the Sens; Still only 26 years old, all-star and Stanley cup winning goalie. He’s a good goalie to have for your young goalie coming up too!! He did well with Jarry!! And he plays best in the play-offs. Can wins games for you!! You guys will like him!! Good people too!!</div></div>
Lmao there’s a reason I traded Murray, hasn’t been good for at least 3 years, was a bottom 5 starting goaltender this year, was -10.59 in Goals Saved Above Average, and -13.98 in Goals Saved Above Expected. He’s a 3rd round pick at best, and cups aren’t an argument because it’s a team sport, and being bad and inconsistent for the last three years is a reason to be terrible instead of your old years, I traded him because he’s overpaid, and inconsistent, if he can return to his 2018-19 form then maybe it’d be okay, but coming off this season isn’t deserving for that amount

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PGHBOB69</b></div><div>Bescause he’s a 20 goal a season player. He’s not a huge player-maker. That’s not his job or what he’s good at. So His points aren’t a big deal. It’s his goals that matter. He’s a scorer. Which he does. And many wings have played with Sid and Geno. You still have to produce.
And those 6 goals and 6 assists in 15 games weren’t inflated b/c of Sid and Geno. Those benefits from playing on a great line, come in assists. Secondary assists. Like Marner for the Leafs in 18-19 and he had 94 points in 82 games. And only 26 goals. Most of his points came from secondary assists from JT scoring 47 goals and Matthews scoring 39 goals that season. He benefitted from playing on a great line, and great PP. Most of his points were secondary assists. Not the primary assists.
That’s what I’m saying too; give him a full season on Geno’s line. He’s gonna get another10-15 assists just from playing on that line. But again, you still have to produce. And score. And that’s what he does.
A lot of wings have come and gone on Sid and Geno’s line and haven’t scored 20 goals a season. You still have to score. The 6 goals and 6 assists in 15 games weren’t a huge benefit from playing on Geno’s line and playing on the PP with Sid and Geno. But he will benefit this year with more assists and points. And he will score 20 plus goals. His career high of a 64 point season will be broken this year!!</div></div>
Well first of all literally everything you said was horse****, Marner had the highest primary assist rate in the history is the tracking of that stat with 1.9 primary assists per 60, and 0.6 secondary assists per 60... Second, it doesn’t matter how you get a goal, even if you’re on the ice for most of your teams goals, you are likely contributing to that, zucker can continue to score but there’s many many other players who get more goals when they’re on the ice, zucker isn’t that good offensively when he’s isolated, to which I say he wouldn’t be that good as you say he is because he can’t do stuff on his own, but he certainly can, just not at an impressive rate. But again, why is zucker “really good” if he needs a good line to produce?

B/c the organization used draft capital on them and signed them for more money and a bigger signing bonus. Come on man?? Really?? So Zucker’s 1st 2-3 years are not equivalent to Whites. White got a better opportunity. Especially being with a rebuilding team. And Minnesota was a play-off team and a deep team when Zucker got drafted and got called up to the NHL.
We’ll see!! I’ll take Zucker for the next 3-4 years!! Again, 12 points in 15 games last year with the Pens. A player in his prime!! I’ll take Zucker at 29-30-31. Over Whites next 3 years. At 23 years old, Zucker was a 20 goal scorer. White is not!! It’s all potential with White. Zucker has done it!! He’s a perennially 20 goal a season scorer.</div></div>
Why do you keep milking his points lol, he probably got his points inflated by Crosby, in terms of offence, he’s 65th percentile in goals for per 60, that’s not even impressive, the reason I traded for him is because he’s an amazing forechecker with solid defence and veteran presence.

Lol there’s more to hockey than just points, in terms of offence that’s zuckers weakness, he heavily outperformed his expected goals due to a fringe elite shooting talent, which was likely due to him playing with the wilds system where everyone had good shooting talents.

Ok? so we measure how he was playing against elite competition. RAPM takes into account competition, deployment, and teammates, and him being the third pair just tells you that his coaches don't know how good he is, just watch him, you'll see how good he is, and better yet, stats can actually back him up, stats that take into account issues.
