Canucks trade Loui Eriksson and their 6th Overall Pick to the Sabres for Sam Reinhart (extended)

Buffalo won’t touch Loui Eriksson‘s contract with a 10 foot pole. It’s more likely they would take a chance on Virtanen, if his legal issues are no longer an issue.

Vancouver can't afford Reinhart without Loui being traded. This trade kills two birds with one stone. Maybe Vancouver adds a prospect like Woo to this trade

Buffalo already has to deal with Okposo, they don’t need another useless player with a deadweight contract. If he happens to retire before this trade happens they might think about it. But, no they won’t. They want a useful player in return. They could use a right side defenseman, convince Schmidt to waive his NTC.

ur rebuilding. u have cap space for loui's 6M for a year. if VAN offers you that, you run with it. getting the 3rd & 5th overall pick is huge in this draft, even if it mean being 6M closer to the cap than before. plus he comes off the books next year, great deal for sabres & nucks
