Massive overpayment for Carlson. I know he's asking for north of $6M, but it would not be wise for the Caps to pay that. Let him play a lot this season and trade him for a 1st, a 2nd, and a prospect. Carly should yield the same as Shattenkirk as a rental, plus a 2nd or later pick. Take that and rebuild some.

Wilson is probably $1M overpaid as well if he's never going to mature beyond a bottom-6 role.

I like keeping Beags. You probably have to find a way to lose Orpik's last year and rebuild the defense completely in the bottom 4-5 guys (leave Orly / Nisky as is).
Agree you trade Grubi and Siegenthaler as both are probably not slated to be long term Capitals.

@netminder71 Ya Carlson would be overpaid at $6.85 mil but I think it'll take somewhere around there to re-sign him for a good term (I have 6 years, it would be easier and a better price if the length was 8 years, but I think it's better not to have a similar Oshie situation). I personally think the caps keeping Carlson is good for the team, we don't need a full-on rebuild and he can be our main guy at the back end for a while.

I agree that Wilson is overpaid in this situation, maybe $3 mil is more realistic for him, but if the caps want him locked up long-term as a third-line guy, $3 mil for 8 years sounds fair.

I think at this point unloading Orpik is a cost the caps don't need to make, since 18-19 will be his last year and it would be expensive to get rid of him most likely. I think just keeping him around for that last year will be fine, and with the cap space possibly going up to $80-82 million next season the caps should be fine with his contract.

    Thanks for your input smile
