dude, you're retaining $3.5mil in your deal, so that brings Lundquist cap down to $5mil AAV....

Lundquist at $5mil does not get you Freddie Andersen by himself....and your asking a 1st on top of that! come on...

3,5 mill for 4 years - 14 million dollars - at least worth a 1st
Toronto does this if they dont think Andersen can cut it. With the retention - no extra cap for Toronto.

uhg...first of all if TOR magically decided to give up on Andersen, they would not go after a 35yo goaltender in Lundqvist. The whole reason they acquired Andersen was so they could have a young Goalie to develop as their #1 that follows the teams age group when they decided to rebuild.

Secondly, TOR doesn't give a poop about that $14mil your trying to make them save. The Leafs have 100% no problem paying Nathan Horton $5.3mil a year for the next 3 year (so $15.9mil) just so they could get rid of Clarkson's contract from their cap. TOR has the most Cash flow in the entire NHL (NYR 2nd, and MTL 3rd)... all this to say that TOR values their 1st rd pick more than $14mil.

Man that was rough... I'm a Habs fan defending leaf players...I don't feel so good lol

You are totally missing the point. Toronto makes the trade to compete now. They want Rangers to retain on Lundquist. Not because of the cash, but for cap reasons. They are using the pick to free 3,5 mill in capspace. But they have to pay for it.
