JVR has recently said he would take a paycut in order to stay in Toronto but they would have to sign him to the max 8 years. While he currently looking at getting 6-7 million on his new deal, what kind of paycut do you think he is thinking of? I would be willing if it was around 5 million (as you can see this leaves the leafs with enough cap room to resign the young guys) would it be more beneficial to sign a centre and leave Nylander on the wing?(especially because we have so many winger prospects) that space could also be spent on a new defender

I think you just proved at even at 5m, JVR is too expensive for the Leafs. Add 10m for and 6m for Marner the Leafs are and the way over the cap in 2019. Plus new contracts for Kapanen, Borgman, Rosen, and maybe even Gardiner in 2019. And what else would JVR say in public? Means nothing in actual negotiations.
